This Year's Model Updates:

Now into its third year of production, the Impala soldiers on as Chevrolet's bread-and-butter family sedan. Minor upgrades this year include standard dual-zone air conditioning, an AM/FM stereo and LATCH child seat tether anchors. A leather-accented 60/40 split bench seat will be available later this year on LS models, and two new exterior colors have been added.

Pros:
  • Six-passenger seating availability, good crash test scores, torquey V6 engines.
Cons:
  • So-so styling, wallowy suspension,low-buck interior.

  • Test Drove them all , Impala won! - 2002 Chevrolet Impala

When I when to buy my next car I researched the internet extensively and test drove just about all the cometitors (Accord, Camry,Passat, Intrigue, Altima, Avalon, Sable, Intrepid). The Impala won my wife and my votes for comfort , power, handling , features and room to spare. Plus it has 87% U.S./Canadian parts content. Not to mention 5 star frontal and 4 star side impact ratings.

Nice car to drive with a feel of luxury The interior is well done this time at a reasonable cost. Fast and powerfull, yet, very good fuel economy and fuel tank size that allows me to travel from Detroit to Chicago and drive for a whole day on one fuel tank

One of the best cars I have owned, a great buy for the money. Ride and handling compares with cars many thousands more. I looked at everything from BMWs to Hondas to Nissans...best buy for the money. Get the bigger engine and leather seats..LS version Obvious Edmunds is pushing people away form this car but for what reason?

I have had the car now for 2 months and already has 8800 miles. Not a squeak to be heard. Car is solid and responsive. I drive 10 over posted highway speed and expect to be there when merging. With this car, thats not even an issue.... Performance is what you would expect in a more expensive sports car and not in a 4-dr sedan. Even looks better than most sports cars. I compared vehicles up to $60K and would choose this one again. Given my driving habits, gas mileage is a respectable 26mpg combined Highway/City. The interior design needs major touchups.

Im not a car nut or an expert-but I love this car! It handles nicely, is exceptionally quiet, the leather interior is beautiful and I absolutely love my sunroof. I havent had a single problem in 11,000 miles and I doubt that I will have any problems for 111,000 miles! Cant beat this car for the money!! Space, luxury, and affordability--and our dealer was super helpful and patient

Chevy did their homework and Im very happy to say that the Impala LS is a fantastic car to own and drive. The gas mileage is FANTASTIC.

  • First Sport Appearance Package - 2002 Chevrolet Impala

We bought it with every option from dealers inventory. We much prefer th rear appearance with the Silver sport appearance package The steering wheel controls are nice, the hands free cell phone great and the seat controls very functional. I could use lower mounted cup holders in the doors and of course, more HP. The highway mileage is outstanding with one trip at 33 mpg using cruise control.

  • Great for BIG people - 2002 Chevrolet Impala
    By -

Edmunds reviewers must be little people. They feel the Subaru, Ford and VW are better cars in this price range. They might be, but Im 63" and those cars are too small. I am happy with my purchase (I bought it in Jan. of 2000) and have not had any problems that the dealer didnt go out of their way to correct - all little things. The trunk is HUGE, the car can accommidate 5 full-size people and my only complaint is the use of way too much hard cheap plastic in the interior.
