This Year's Model Updates:

Now into its third year of production, the Impala soldiers on as Chevrolet's bread-and-butter family sedan. Minor upgrades this year include standard dual-zone air conditioning, an AM/FM stereo and LATCH child seat tether anchors. A leather-accented 60/40 split bench seat will be available later this year on LS models, and two new exterior colors have been added.

Pros:
  • Six-passenger seating availability, good crash test scores, torquey V6 engines.
Cons:
  • So-so styling, wallowy suspension,low-buck interior.

Bought this vehicle 3 weks ago from a Chevy dealer as a lease return that originally went on the road less than 12 months ago. At 34% depreciation from new with 2 years factory warranty left, how can they sell them new? The car has greatly exceeded my expectations. Virtually no body flex, very comfortable highway ride and great fuel economy. This car is actually turning out better than the Accord or Camry I previously test-drove and thought I wanted. Highly recommended.

I have had a number of Chevys but this is for sure the best one I have ever had. The LS is a great family car and a great joy to drive. It has plenty of room and gets good gas mileage. Keep up the good work GM.

Just purchased my implala 2 weeks ago and put over 3000 miles on it. I must say that I enjoy to drive it more then my GMC Yukon...Car seems very solid, responsive and absorbs bumps very well.. Plenty of room for 5 adults..Great gas milage, and planty of safety features..

THIS CAR SEEMS TO BE A WELL BUILT CAR. NO PROBLEMS AT 18K MILES. 3.8 ENGINE IN MY PONTIAC AT 175K AND STILL GOING STRONG. GM NEEDS TO WATCH QUALITY OF MATERIALS THEY ARE USING - SEEM TO BE ON THE VERGE OF LOWERING THEIR STANDARDS IN SOME AREAS TO THAT OF FORD AND CHRYSLER MY PAST GM VEHICLE INTERIORS HELD UP VERY WELL FOR 10 YEARS NO SUPRISE TO SEE NEGATIVE REVIEWS BY SO CALLED CAR EXPERTS - BACK IN 1983 THEY HAD THE SAME BIASED OPINIONS. AT THAT TIME I WAS DRIVING A COMPANY EXECUTIVE IN MY NEW BUICK SKYHAWK TO PICK UP HIS NEW HIGHLY RATED BMW(BY EXPERTS)AT THE DEALERS SHOP EVERY 3 WEEKS.

  • Love My Impala! - 2002 Chevrolet Impala

After having (and still owning!) 3 1970 musclecars, I endured 14 years of driving minivans due to having kids. When it came time for another daily driver vehicle, I looked VERY HARD for a safe, large family car that had the zip and FUN akin to my old musclecars. I found the Impala. Ok, it does not turn as many heads as my 1970 lime green big block Cuda, but it is alot of fun to drive and always gets great comments from people who ride in it -- especially my Volvo S80 and Saab and Passat owning friends who cant believe how little my Impala cost. I will buy another Impala next year when my oldest kids take this one over.

  • Everyone "ALWAYS" tests the LS with 3.8 - 2002 Chevrolet Impala

I bought this car for my wife. I rarely drive it. It has had NO problems what so ever!! It actually has more front leg room and is more comfortable for me than my 01 LT Suburban. Power is very adaquet and handling is good, with absolutely dead center steering on the interstate. What I cant get over is the gas mileage. It just turned 10,000 miles on a recent 2000 mile trip. When the trip computer said 36.5 mpg, I thought it lied (on one segment at 70 to 80 mph). It was actually 35.8! It gets 29/30 every fillup, We also like the "cloth" split power bench--much more comfy than buckets!

  • What a bargain! - 2002 Chevrolet Impala

We bought a loaded LS for $22k and have put over 16,000 miles on it without any problems. Loads of power from the 3.8l, lots of interior room, great A/C, very good driver info center, great stereo for its class. The looks will really grow on you, especially when compared to the bland Camry, Accord and Maxima. This car actually has personality. With GMs incentives, you can get a terrific family sedan that is fun to drive for $22k! Forget Edmundss opinion on this car, they are incredibly biased against it. Check it out for yourself.

the key to this car is it does allthings fairly well. It has adistinctly American feeling as far as room and comfort is concerned. Anyone considering a family car should give it a good test drive

A well known consumer service rates this vehicle as a recommended one. Looking at the hard data, hard to argue as it has scores that surpass the best the Japanese have to offer. You will find sedans that equal this one, but whether one surpasses it is a matter of subjective opinion. Subjectively, we love this loaded Impala LS.

This car is comfortable, though a bit noisy, with most controls easy to use and reach. Leather seats provide good support with adjustable lumbar and they are toasty in the winter with the seat heaters. The car has a very smooth powertrain with excellent low end grunt and pleanty of passing power with the 3.8L engine. It gets excellent gas mileage at about 30-31 on trips. The handling dynamics are so-so, it requires attention to track, especially on the twisty roads. It holds all our stuff for those long vacations, but is still easy to park. The only problem in 10k miles was a leak in the gas tank filler neck that required replacement of the tank - under warranty.
