This Year's Model Updates:

The big news is the arrival of the A4 Cabriolet, a fetching drop-top version of the A4 sedan. Initially, the company will offer only one drivetrain choice -- front-wheel drive with the 3.0-liter V6 engine and continuously variable transmission. Expect to see a 1.8T version midway through the model year and a 3.0 quattro Cab by October 2003. No word yet on the possibility of a manual transmission. As if this weren't enough, Audi plans to release a coupe version of the A4 in early 2003. The rest of the A4 lineup benefits from equipment upgrades. Leather is now optional on all 1.8T models, as are 12-way power front seats. All 3.0s will come swathed in leather, with more deluxe leather optional. Previous stand-alone options for the 3.0, including xenons and satellite steering wheel controls, have been swept up into the Premium Package. A new cold weather package includes seat heaters and a ski sack, and 17-inch all-season tires are a stand-alone extra.

Pros:
  • Available all-wheel drive, classy interiors laden with amenities, stable handling.
Cons:
  • Price goes up quickly with options, engines a little short on low-end torque.

  • Not worth the electrical problems - 2003 Audi A4

My first Avant overheated 3 times in the first two weeks due to a fan control module issue. After 2 1/2 months in repair the computer module was replaced and the heat only worked at 100 plus degrees. At my request, Audi replaced the car and charged me $4,000 for a newer car with less equipment. The first day of the 2nd Avant had the sunroof opening by itself (new switch) and the headlights turning themselves off 3 times over the next 24 months. The computer calls this a "dipped headlight" but it translates to no headlights and another service appointment. After 1 visit to the dealer each month for 3 years, I went out and bought a Volvo V50.

  • An excellent car, with some drawbacks - 2003 Audi A4

Audi has crafted a truly fine automobile here. The interior is better executed than almost ANY other, regardless of price, anf the understated elegance of the exterior is sure to look good for many years to come. With 13K miles so far, and driving in all conditions, Id say this car is a 9.5 out of 10. The quattro and ESP together make it unflappable in inclement weather.

Love the 2003 1.8T A4 Quattro. No problems, squeaks or rattles so far. Handles like the car is on rails. Very smooth although the turbo lag takes a bit to get used to. Averaging 27 mpg.

  • Cant wait for my 2nd summer! - 2003 Audi A4

I had the top down today on the first day of spring in Chicago, and even the anti-war protesters on Michigan Ave gave admiring glances. I have 6600 miles on my red A4 cab since 12/02, mostly short hops in the city. No problems with the car at all - fit and finish were as good as my prior new cars, a Nissan 200SX and a Lexus SC300. I would recommend this car without hesitation. I considered the BMW 330i, the MB CLK 320, the Infiniti G35 coupe, and a few otehr import convertibles, and still believe that the A4 is the best combination of style, performance, and value.

My Audi is my baby. I love driving it. Its fit and finish is awesome. For the price the quality cant be beat. I recommend it to anyone considering a BMW of Mercedes. Ive owned a BMW and my Audi is much more versital for a lot less money.

A4 is an unreliable auto. My vehicle was towed in 2 times in the first 6 months for blown coils. Headlights needed to be changed 6 times in the first year. Car is currently out of service for a blown oil pump, turbo and two cylinders. Audi would not provide a rental car and did not attempt in any way to assist. There was to be a recall on A4s for their oil pump, but was cancelled.

I used to have BMW, I found AUDI more economical and they paid close attention to detail in exterior and especially interior. The engine, fuel consumption and performance is excellent. Smooth ride and thrill when turbo kicks-in. Interior electronics and design is superior quality and standards are much more than any other luxury car has.

I bought this car for my wife and an S6 Avant for myself. Both are great cars. I have driven 8 Mercedes cars in the 20 years prior and now you couldnt get me to buy one if they went on sale for 25% off. I only wish I had waited and gotten quattro in the A4 Cabriolet. It was not offered at the time I purchased the 03. Also...I would have been happy with the later issued A 4S Cab. My S 6 Avant has spoiled me. I cant wait to buy my next one...and think I may get an A3 for my sons college graduation. Audi rocks

  • Not a Soccer Mom Car - 2003 Audi A4

Having no children, not wanting a mini- van or an SUV, but needing the space I decided on the A4 Avant 3.0. The car doesnt look like a station wagon, I get compliments from everyone, it rides great in the rain and over wet leaves, it feels like a bigger car, fun to drive, couldnt ask for more....

  • Great Stuff! - 2003 Audi A4

My car is 9 months old and I have driven it across Canada and then to Boston. First gear has been a little stiff, but at 12,000 miles it has finally broke-in. The car is fantastic. The 3.0L engine I think is essential since the car is quite heavy. I test drove the 1.8L Tubo engine but found that it hesitates when you step on the gas which can be a little scary when you want the power to get out of a problem. Gas milage is great in the 3.0L...much like a four cylander. I highly reccomend this car.
