Overview & Reviews
For 2011, the Toyota Tacoma's four-cylinder engine is a more practical choice now that it's available with an automatic transmission. Air-conditioning is now standard on every Tacoma, while all but Regular Cab 4x4 models get bucket seats. The front grille has been slightly redesigned depending on trim level and a pair of new off-road-oriented packages debut.
- Wide variety of body styles and trims
- Well-appointed interior.
- Strong safety scores
- Impressive build quality
- Engines offer a good balance of power and fuel efficiency
- Low seating position
- Spongy brake pedal
- V6 can get noisy.

1st Toyota - 2011 Toyota Tacoma
By tmdmndm - October 7 - 2:00 amActually did not want to look at Toyota when looking to buy. Glad I did. Ive owned all types. Needed to tow, haul passengers, and equip. I got all. Back seat has more room then any competitor. Tows my boat and trailers with no problems. Ride is excellent with no short-bed bouncing. More than enough power with smooth shifts. MPG could be a little more in city driving. Getting 22+ mpg (not to bad though). Tie down rails in bed work great. Plenty of drink holders but center ones need to be bigger. Actually is very quiet ride.

Love my Tacoma...BUT... - 2011 Toyota Tacoma
By tonyd924 - September 29 - 9:23 amThis is my 3rd Tacoma and I love the ride and the overall build quality BUT the engine noises drive me absolutely crazy! The best description I can give is that the engine sounds like a wind-up toy. The noises seem to be an exhaust leak of some kind (most noticeable during acceleration) along with a loud valve-tapping sound coming from both the top and bottom areas of the engine (most noticeable at idle). I believe the exhaust sound may be a known faulty manifold problem (?) but Im not sure about what seems to be the valve-tapping sounds. If anyone has any input whatsoever to the problem and/or fixes, PLEASE post a reply. Im praying the dealer will be able to find and fix the problems

Absolute Garbage! - 2011 Toyota Tacoma
By mongre - August 31 - 11:41 pmI have now owned 4 Toyotas. Excluding a late 80s base model Tacoma, this is the worst vehicle I have ever owned. I will be slow to purchase a Toyota again. Cheap materials, cramped and awkward interior, an endless supply of mechanical failures. I am happy to say goodbye. I spent hours haggling over the Cruise Control failing at 70. Toyota made every excuse yet blamed me & the terrain (small incline). 1 engine out of 12 takes synthetic. Of course my dealership filled it with standard and replaced it so the engine could sound like a VW bug for a while. Two...yes TWO rear bearings, a differential and a front strut later and this has been in the shop more than my last 3 cars combined!

SUV with a bed - 2011 Toyota Tacoma
By bart25 - April 2 - 9:44 amThe Tacoma has its limitations, but going to a Tacoma from a full size Ford F-250 will take something to get used to. I purchaced it cause I was sick and tired of getting 11 mpg with my Ford. When picking out a new Tacoma the test ride in the automatic was totally unacceptable the way the transmission would constantly shift up and down everytime I touched the gas pedal so I was ready to walk away but the salesman said he had a 6 speed manual shift 4 door, but I said NO! no manual for me, so he insulted me saying I couldnt drive a manual, but when I took the manual for a ride I LOVED it and took it home.

Longtime Ford driver now in a Tacoma 4x4 - 2011 Toyota Tacoma
By zzbluecomet - January 12 - 10:17 pmFirst, Ill say Ive driven Fords most my life and some imports. I tried the mini-SUV route and had a Ford Escape for 7 mos. I was in need of a truck, but not a full-size. The F150s are very nice and a natural choice for me but the Tacoma really has fit my needs. The build, detail and quality of this truck is very nice and very solid. I have the Off-Road pkg in Super White and it turns heads and gets lots of comments. I can see why Toyota has run most the other midsize/compact trucks out to pasture - I had a Ranger as my last truck and the Tacoma makes hit look completely out of date.

Buy It Now - 2011 Toyota Tacoma
By rrobinson60 - June 17 - 5:43 pmI had a 2008 Nissan Frontier before I got this truck. The need for a change obvious because I really did not like driving it. Fuel economy poor. I did my research and ran across the 2011 Toyota Tacoma. When I saw that it came in a double cab 4 Cyl. I was ecstatic. The truck drives like a car. I am a pretty big guy and I have plenty of head room and leg room. The stereo system is great and it looks much better than the Frontier. I havent had it long enough to determine the fuel efficiency but I drove it 50 miles the first night and it barely moved off of full. I highly recommend this truck to anyone.

4 cylinder, 4x4 Tacoma with 4 speed automatic - 2011 Toyota Tacoma
By nedreck - November 12 - 11:42 amOverall the truck has been pretty good. The acceleration of the 4 cylinder in this model with the 4 wheel drive and 4 speed automatic transmission is poor, and fourth gear is way too high for this engines modest power and torque level and the shift points are all wrong, in my opinion. It always starts and runs well for me, but the blower fan has been replaced twice under warranty.

First time Toyota owner - 2011 Toyota Tacoma
By RRamirez - January 18 - 10:00 amThis is my first Toyota vehicle. I have owned Ford pick-up trucks for the last 15 years but my 2007 Sport-Trac was falling apart so I decided to try something else. I researched the Frontier and the Tacoma and test drove both. I went with the 2011 Tacoma PreRunner SR5 V6 Access Cab, and Im glad I did. The Tacoma is definitely more fun to drive than any truck I previously owned. My first 2 weeks I put 1000 miles on the truck. I cant stop driving it! The interior feels "plush" like a car and it handles very refined for city or highway driving but over the hill-country here in Texas you know its a truck because you can feel it pull its way up the hills very easily.

Perfect Midsized Pickup - 2011 Toyota Tacoma
By everrigged - January 18 - 9:01 amI bought my Double Cab TRD Off-Road in early December. I had done tons of research on Edmunds.com as well as many other review and rating sites. This truck has been a perfect fit for me. I do not drive it daily as I have a work truck. When I get in it and take it for a drive it is always a fun experience. The ride is comfortable for being a pickup truck. The bed is on the small side, but if I wanted a full size I would have bought one. It really is just an all around versatile vehicle. I am getting an average of 17.92MPG. So its not too bad. Driving it for an extended period of time isnt uncomfortable. I really do love this truck.

Awesome Truck - 2011 Toyota Tacoma
By Peterj6 - November 29 - 2:00 amI have wanted a truck ever since I traded in my trusty 2004 Ranger a couple of years ago. I needed something that would get reasonable mileage and room for 4 adults. This truck nailed it. Was concerned about the seat from prior reviews. I am ok with height but did not feel comfortable until a couple weeks in. What blows me away most is that this truck handles like a car even with the longer bed. Love the XM for rural drives in the Northeast for work. More storage than I will ever need and it is beautifully styled. Mileage is about 17-18 mixed which is pretty good given that I am a lead foot. Only gripe is that for $30K this should have heated mirrors. Even my basic Ranger had that.
