This Year's Model Updates:

Like other minivans on the market, the 2001 Sienna can be equipped with an on-board entertainment system. Dual power-sliding doors are optional, and the safety-conscious will like the fact that side airbags and a stability control system are available. Sienna's smooth V6 makes more power and torque this year. A rear defroster is standard on all Siennas, while JBL audio, heated front seats and an electrochromic rearview mirror with integrated compass are optional on XLE models. Styling has been tweaked front and rear, four new colors replace four old colors and all Siennas come with a driver-side sliding door.

Pros:
  • Camry genes, excellent crash-test ratings, refined powertrain, optional stability control system, available side airbags.
Cons:
  • Dull styling, small size, lacks optimal utility.

Bought the van in 02 to replace a 91 Pathfinder. Has proven to be very comfortable on long trips with to small kids. Gas mileage is what you would expect for a 6 cyl. Have kept it serviced every 5000 miles at the dealer. Had initial problem with the power sliding doors not working. Right at 36000 and the rear seat will not pull out. Only taken it out 3-4 times. Dealership had to order part. Also, the passenger power window doesnt go down all the time. Overall, wished I could have afforded the Odessey, but this has been ok. Wife likes it for taking the kids around town. Dont get the optional center console; waste of space and no space.

Never thought I would be writing accolades for a minivan, but here I am, doing just that. Absolutely the best family vehicle you could own for a family of four or more. Very peppy engine, handling is great, mileage is pretty good and the best thing is you can put everything plus the kitchen sink in this vehicle on trips to grandmas. We bought a small tv for the kids to use during trips, no fancy drop down dvd, and it works great with their earphones, for $200 or so.

Being hard to please, I find this vehicle worth owning. It is our first van and Im glad we have it. We have two children and an 80lb dog that fit just perfectly. If my family were larger, Id probably go with something larger. Im still trying to figure out why people dont like the look of this vehicle.

This was my third Toyota and will be my last. I have had so many problems with the van that I cant imagine any other Siennas being any better. It is to the point that I have to take it in every two weeks because the engine light comes on. When I first bought it I noticed that it was very noisy to drive. Then all of the problems started. The tire pressure light continues to come on, the sliding doors continue to get stuck open, and now the engine light comes on very often.

Decent space for family of 6. Nice interior, comfortable seats. Exc sound sys (prem.). So-so heat in MN winter. Good AC. Gets 26 mpg carrying a full load on hwy. The only problem is that the drivers mirror has become balky. NO other problems. Best reliability of anything weve owned. Nothing rattles or squeaks. I bought it primarily for the power. I was stunned at how quick the Sienna moved when I test drove it. More understeer than I like but thats FWD for you, replacement tires helped a lot. Im buying more Toyotas!

75,000 miles and still on orginal brake pads. Dealer says I still good to go though I keep saying- surely I need to replace them now. Only problem is a sticky automatic side door.

  • Had to Junk Our Sienna Due to Oil Sludge - 2001 Toyota Sienna
    By -

Purchased a new 2001 Sienna XLE in 2000. 3 years later we had to replace the engine due to oil sludge. Toyota calls it "oil gel". Toyota fought us at first but then agreed to fix the car when we produced oil change receipts. 2 years after that the engine started leaking oil, and we had to replace all the oil seals. Again we had to fight Toyota for reimbursement. Also around this time we incurred over $1800 in costs to replace various fuel and exhaust sensors. And even after that, the check engine light kept coming on. Finally after another 2 years (we had the car 7 years and 80k miles at this point), and a major oil-related repair bill, the engine seized again from oil gel build-up. Avoid the Sienna. We junked the car after spending thousands on oil sludge related repairs and two engine seizures. A total nightmare.

  • Tried em all- none compare to the Sienna - 2001 Toyota Sienna

We purchased an 01 brand new. I have loved it from day one. It has never given me a problem. We have done nothing to it but the normal oil changes, transmission fluid changes and brakes. Outstanding vehicle. In the market for a new one and not happy with the expensive option packages for 05. Spent all day yesterday test driving all the competition- conclusion: yes some are much cheaper but theres no comparison in looks, comfort, drive to the toyota. Back to the toyota dealership we went and made a deal. Im getting another toyota sienna.

  • Good Boring Van - 2001 Toyota Sienna
    By -

Drove it to 240,000 miles with no problems. Great quality reliable ride. But about as boring as can be and had a smaller interior then most other mini vans. Overall positive thoughts about the 01 Sienna.
