This Year's Model Updates:

Like other minivans on the market, the 2001 Sienna can be equipped with an on-board entertainment system. Dual power-sliding doors are optional, and the safety-conscious will like the fact that side airbags and a stability control system are available. Sienna's smooth V6 makes more power and torque this year. A rear defroster is standard on all Siennas, while JBL audio, heated front seats and an electrochromic rearview mirror with integrated compass are optional on XLE models. Styling has been tweaked front and rear, four new colors replace four old colors and all Siennas come with a driver-side sliding door.

Pros:
  • Camry genes, excellent crash-test ratings, refined powertrain, optional stability control system, available side airbags.
Cons:
  • Dull styling, small size, lacks optimal utility.

  • Lemon on a stick - 2001 Toyota Sienna

This was my third Toyota and will be my last. I have had so many problems with the van that I cant imagine any other Siennas being any better. It is to the point that I have to take it in every two weeks because the engine light comes on. When I first bought it I noticed that it was very noisy to drive. Then all of the problems started. The tire pressure light continues to come on, the sliding doors continue to get stuck open, and now the engine light comes on very often.

  • Very disappointed - 2001 Toyota Sienna

Despite the glowing reviews, our 2001 Sienna XLE is one of the worst vehicles we have owned. Its build quality, interior and exterior, leaves much to be desired. The power doors have stopped working, the transmission is leaking, the front speakers went out, the radio head unit is failing, one of the visors is broken, and the fabric and interior overall are poor. I am so disappointed, and my wife hates this vehicle as she has lost confidence in it; we admit that our 2000 Dodge Caravan was a better vehicle, if you can believe that!

Electrical system is a problem: passenger side window does not work. Started happening during warranty period, however, dealer, could not find problem existed. Now no longer works. Computer: Problem lights keeping coming on: low air for tire, engine problem, etc. We have had them checked at the dealer and they just reset for a cost. Also, Bayridge Toyota of Brooklyn NY stated that the engine problem was from over filling the gas tank and a repair of $800. Body: This car dents very easily.

  • Poor Design, Little Comfort - 2001 Toyota Sienna

The rear brakes squeal so bad that the van announces its arrival each time you stop. Toyota has no fix. Theyve replaced the drums, pad and brake cylinders to no avail. The recessed windshield causes the wiper on the drivers side to compact snow and sleet on the the windshield up against the windshield frame instead of removing it. There is a small 17" wiper on the passenger side that wraps around the corner of the windshield is so small that it will not flatten out in the cold weather leaving the passenger side uncleaned and a blocked view. The seats are overly firm even for leather. Access to the third seat is difficult.

  • Seat Problem - 2001 Toyota Sienna

The front passenger seat is very uncomfortable for someone with short legs. My wife is actually in pain if she sits there for only 45 min. to an hour. Weve tried extra padding, putting things under her feet, etc. If the height of the seat, the tilt of the seat (front of seat tilted down slightly) it sure would be nice. The drivers seat is pretty good for her but that would be better if the tilt of the seat could be changed. d even appreciate that just to help change the position at times.
