Overview & Reviews
A truck-based mini-SUV, the athletic new Xterra competes with several smaller vehicles built on car platforms.
- Rugged looks and capability to match, excellent brakes, lots of room inside, standard ABS.
- Based on a truck, it steers like a truck (read: numb).

Decent - 2000 Nissan Xterra
By Jason Fritz - November 14 - 10:00 amI got bored with this truck fast. Its cool looking, and can take you off road, but dont expect anything to happen when you step on the gas.

260000 - 2000 Nissan Xterra
By themazemaker - August 24 - 2:35 amMy wife bought her xterra brand new in 2000. have had some minor issues with it till it hit 250000 and had to have the tranny rebuilt. Must say that is awsume. having an overheating issue now and trying to track it down. usually when the Air is on it overheats but have not had any other issues to speak of. Love this Vehicle. Will buy another someday when this one goes to the car graveyard lol. it didnt give me an option for saying its an Automatic just manual.

Perfect SUV - 2000 Nissan Xterra
By Mr. Hill - June 27 - 2:00 amThe most surprising element about the Xterra is the smooth ride. Most SUVs can be bumpy but Nissan builds the Xterra with rubber mounts around the frame and what a difference that makes. The Xterra is high up, higher than the Grand Cherokee and the standard runner boards makes it feel and look more rugged.

Going on 4 years... - 2000 Nissan Xterra
By chowe - May 4 - 10:00 amI bought the 2000 XE V6 4WD and I am impressed with the reliablity and ride after +60K miles. Sure, Gas Mileage could be better, but what are you going to do. My X has capably handled several snowy winters in the last few years and annual trips out on the beach in North Carolina. It has "passable" comfort for long trips, but it certainly isnt a Benz...Then again, there are no SLKs pulling up to the surf on the beach! Ive had a couple of little rattles and squeeks, but overall, I am pretty impressed.

Xterra Owner - 2000 Nissan Xterra
By Xterra owner - March 29 - 2:50 pmI love my Xterra. It has 100,000 miles and I have only had to change the tires, brakes and a couple belts. Nothing huge considering the mileage.

2000 Xterra Still Going Strong - 2000 Nissan Xterra
By clgd3 - February 7 - 11:40 pmI have owned my Nissan Xterra since I bought it new in 2000. I have not had any problems at all mechanically. I have the oil changed every 3000 to 5000 miles. The only thing that has been replaced a couple of times has been the battery. Other than that it has been a great vehicle. I am even thinking about buying a 2008 or 2009 when Im ready to buy another vehicle. Ive been totally happy with my Xterra the past 8 years. I have read that some people have had problems with rust forming on the exterior. I noticed some rust that appeared to form in the paint but with occasional waxing it inhibited any corrosion. Overall the best vehicle Ive owned.

My 2000 Xterra SE 3.3 liter V6 - 2000 Nissan Xterra
By jerrymax - December 20 - 8:03 amI bought this car almost two years ago and have put 15,000 miles on it. It is great in snow and ice in 4 wheel drive mode. Easy to shift from 2 to 4 wheel drive system. The 3.3 liter V6 is adequate, not fast, but you dont get an SUV for speed. Valve gaskets had to be replaced at 154K. Only complaints; no dashboard clock and dashboard instruments are very dark. On a sunny day if youre wearing sunglasses you cant read them unless dashboard lights are turned on. Vehicle is very rugged. I actually think this 1st generation Xterra looks nicer than the 2nd generation. 4 full doors and great visibility make it more practical than the FJ Cruiser. I would highly recommend this vehicle.
