This Year's Model Updates:

A long overdue 250-horsepower V6 engine debuts for 2001, making Pathfinder the most powerful SUV in its class. An interior freshening and more standard goodies, as well as snazzy options like an in-dash navigation system and an entertainment system for rear-seat occupants, are new for 2001. Also added to the LE's options list this fall is the handy All-mode automatic 4WD system from the Infiniti QX4.

Pros:
  • Powerful V6 engine, car-like interior, good reliability record, rear entertainment system option, available Infiniti All-Mode 4WD on LE models.
Cons:
  • Tight rear seat, high price tag, cheap interior bits.

  • Luv my SUV - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

I bought my LE used with 24K. This is the most functional car/truck Ive ever owned and the reliability is so far equal to my experience with Camreys and Maximas. I now have 55K and the only issue I have is with the Bose stereo. The CD/cassette function quit working at around 45K. Otherwise the reliability has been flawless. It hauls my stuff, my kids, and my trailer in all seasons and never lets me down. I test drove every conceivable competitor and for my needs this SUV had the right combination of power, space, torque, comfort, and handling. Very happy with my decision.

  • Love my Pathfinder - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

So far this vehicle has been a pleasure to own. Only the routine maintenance has been performed so far and Ive put 20,000 miles on it. The engine provides plenty of power on tap for any situation, and the car like handling characteristics sometimes makes me forget Im driving an SUV. My only complaint is that this truck is THIRSTY! My fuel mileage is terrible at about 12 MPG average, and that is compunded by the fact that premium fuel is recommended.

  • 4th Pathfinder, still love them - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

This is my 4th, starting with a 92, had 200k when I sold it, the other 2 were killed by stupid drivers, the latest has been great. The only major issue I have had is when 2 of my injectors failed, it took a while to find the problem but when the dealership mechanic got it he found it right away. Other than that it has been a solid performing vehicle. I use mine for work and family so it is high miles, currently at 180k but it looks and drives like a much newer vehicle. I can see where Nissan has skimped over the years with quality of the interior materials but with the 01 it appeared to come back a bit. Power is perfect for its size. For its age and what it is I have no complaints.

  • One year review - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

Well, the mileage is approaching 15K. So far this SUV is performing very well. The body is still very tight and completely rattle free. Tires noticeably wear fast. Engine runs fine on a regular gas but a premium gas is highly recommended to take advantage of 240 hp.

  • Incredible! - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

With 29,100 miles and 2.5 years, my Nissan Pathfinder has been just wonderful. Its handling is outstanding, great power, simply a joy to ride. Has handled "blizzard of 2003" in Washington D.C. with no problems. The only problem I have had was with the CD-changer (had to be replaced)

  • Fun, Reliable but THIRSTY - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder
    By -

SE model with 5-speed manual feels like a sports car. The SE has stiffer suspension and very little body roll Be aware that the 6 CD Bose system cannot be changed to aftermarket without replacing all of the speakers too. FUEL ECONOMY is os bad that I am considering trading in for an AWD car. My only quality complaint is the paint on the body plastics. chips from rocks lead to huge areas of flaked paint with just hose washing. If fuel was less expensive, I would love the Pathfinder a lot more.

  • Great Value and Great Ride - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder
    By -

Ive still yet to see a 4WD vehicle that surpasses my 2001 LE. The ride is incredibly smooth and carlike, with impressive acceleration. The interior is extremely comfortable and convenient, although the rear seat room is too limited. Gas mileage is rather poor, but what can you expect from an SUV? I have had many people express how impressed they are with my Pathfinder both from a value and luxury standpoint, and I agree - Nissan has made an exceptional vehicle that belongs in the "luxury" category.

  • mixed feelings - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

This Car looks, handles and feels great and in 2001 it was more powerful than 2001 Toyota 4Runner and more stylish. Engine got boosted to 240HP over very weak 168HP 3.3 liter. With that came a lots of MAF, O2,Crank position sensor failures. Use of premium fuel is more than recommended. Weak transmission and aggressive rust on under-body (save yourself and spray it prematurely if you can). Strut tower failures. Realistic fuel economy is 14city and 20 Hwy.

  • Very Happy - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

Couldnt be happier with my purchase...definitely worth the money!

  • Unreliable Car & Expensive Repairs - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder
    By -

Our second Pathfinder. All reg maint done at dealership. Had to replace O2 sensors at 34000 miles, and second one at 52000. At 61000, dealership said I had a bad catalytic converter and since we had just passed (by two weeks) the 8 year ownership mark, they refused to fix it. First two repairs were $700 each, cat converter estimate is $1000. Have had engine knock for 2 years that dealership couldnt isolate/repair. Knowing that the sensors had gone out, and there was an engine knock, they should have checked cat converter. We will fix this, sell it, and go back to buying Toyotas.
