This Year's Model Updates:

The SLK's 2.3-liter supercharged engine gets dropped into the C-Class, replacing the normally aspirated engine of the last C230. Performance has been turned up a notch. In addition, leather seating surfaces are now standard across the C-Class line.

Pros:
  • Fast and luxurious.
Cons:
  • Initial hesitation when taking off from a standstill.

  • Instead of a Toyota - 1999 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

I bought the car from a friend about a year ago with 48,000 miles to use it as a weekend car. I paid less than I did for my new Camry that I drive daily. But when the weekend arrives I allow myself pleasure of the way this car handles, performs. I had forgot the nature of a rear wheel drive car, and how different the car moves through a corner. The supercharged engine doesnt know the meaning to stop, and can pull the car well over the legal speed limit without even trying. The interior, and finish are just great. Its a car the plays to the senses. Looking for reliable transportation at a good value by Toyota. What a car for the soul? Drive a Mercedes

Fine build quality and wonderful handling. The seats are a tad hard and the car could use a few more ccs when you really need the power, but it is an excellent car for the money. The car remains tight even at 135K miles with not a single rattle or squeak. Car pulls effortlessly to 95mph. Over 100 engine noise becomes noticeable tho.

  • My C280 - 1999 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Bought this car certified pre-owned in 2001. Since then no major problems until 2009. I had to replace a crankcase sensor and shifter assembly. Not bad after 8 years or ownership. Great performance, looks and reliability, smooth running and quiet engine. Going to hang on to this car for as long as I can. I change the engine oil twice a year. Had tranny fluid changed at 70K miles, contrary to MB lifetime tranny fluid. Still driving on original brake pads. Ive owned many cars over the years and this C280 is the best by far

My sport model C230 has been a joy to own and drive. I especially appreciate the availability of torque across the rpm range provided by the supercharger. Road handling in the mountains is up there with the BMWs and it tracks like its on a rail on the freeway. Irregardless of the poor reliability ratings MB has racked up in the auto reviews, this one has performed with almost zero problems after a couple of new car warranty fixes. Paint, trim, interior have all weathered the last six years beautifully. My only complaint was the low mileage on the first set of tires. After switching to Michelins, tire has been good. I get around 25 mpg in town and over 30 freeway driving.

This car has few faults. My ownership experience is 2 yrs and 24K miles. Maintenance: I replaced battery (recall) and headlights at 50K miles and an emission sensor at 60K miles. Mileage is 25 in town and 30 on the highway at 75 mph.

  • Love my Benz - 1999 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

I have had my Benz for over a year now and what a car! I had a few problems when I bought it but the dealership (RAB Motors, San Rafael) handled it hassle free! It has been dependable (more dependable than my friends BMWs) and fun to drive. The car has no blind spots, great turning radius and more power than I really need (I clocked 120 mph driving to LA). I would recommend Mercedes to anyone who wants their car to take care of them. This was my first and Ill never buy another make of car except Mercedes.

From day 1, this car has been fun to drive, is great on long trips, and its fuel efficiency is surprising. Ample back seat room and good traction continually remind me that purchasing this vehicle was a smart move!
