Overview & Reviews
More power for the 4.7-liter V8 and three new trim levels (SE, Sport and Overland) are on tap for this year. Also, several important safety and convenience options such as side curtain airbags, power-adjustable pedals, a tire-pressure monitoring system and automatic windshield wipers debut this year.
- Powerful 4.7-liter V8, all-terrain capability, roomy comfort for four.
- Noisy and unrefined, questionable reliability.

Love Hate Relationship - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By fort worth flyer - November 17 - 4:26 pmThe looks of this vehicle make you fall in love but the repair bills and time in the shop make you hate it. We bought our 2002 Limited in 2004 with 25,000 miles. Thank goodness for extended warranties. During the 2 years of ownership the vehicle was in the shop 8 times for something major. Climate control, engine cooling fan, window regulator(s), CD changer, hood struts, seat heater(s), you name it... it broke. The rear end was clunking and front end was making weird noises when we traded it AND THIS VEHICLE WAS WELL MAINTAINED! If youre going to buy it, get a good warranty or have several $1000s in an account to pay for the repairs.

Luv my jeep - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By JeepJeep - November 3 - 7:46 pmIve had my Jeep 4.5 years, and have loved it. Im looking at the 06 (I want a nav system among other things). Its a comfy ride -- not marshmallow soft, comfy enough, and its great when I drive out in the hills/mountains. I have great confidence in the power and handling. Love my Jeep !

Its ok but miss my ford - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By doug - October 14 - 10:00 ami traded my f-150 for this jeep because my wife and i needed a more family friendly vehicle when i bought it the ac wasnt working right and the brakes needed replaced which Chrysler fixed for free and put new rotors on the front. For someone who works on there own vehicles this is the perfect vehicle everything is pretty much easy to access. Just wished it had more cargo space and i love the 4.7 liter high output motor but to get maximum performance out of the engine you must use premium gas.

Love Jeeps! - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Iz - September 27 - 10:00 amThe Grand Cherokee is what a real SUV should be like. Excellent balance of features, reasonable price, all the powers you might need, fine, yet just plain tuff. Not a vehicle for everybody. This is a mans vehicle. Rugged, strong, fast, with a can do anything and drive over you attitude. If you want an economic vehicle go for the toys SUVs like the RAV4, Escape; or a minivan with a SUV look like the Pilot or MDX (off course, dont go off road cause theyre too fragile). If you you want the real thing, theres nothing like a Jeep. The first one and still the best 4 by 4 period.

Very strong Jeep - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Brutal - September 11 - 12:03 pmI bought this August of 2003 with 114,500 on the odometer. Mine is a 4x4 because i have needs with my work where I will be offroad a lot.. I now have 256,830 on my odo. Only brakes once and fuel filters to maximize performance and mileage. I average 5,000 miles a month and drive it hard. Constantly at 4-5500 rpm range. I have tested this proven 4.0 engine. Use 4x4 4-5 times a week. Mud, rocks, sand, deep water, asphalt. I hit a deer on I10 in south texas and it drove away like a champ. Tranny still shifts good and engine starts every time. I know I can get 350k or more.

2000 JGC - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Verlee - September 6 - 3:10 pmIn spite of questionable reliability of the JGC, mine has performed very well. My only complaints: on very hot days, the air conditioner does not seem to keep the interior as cool as other vehicles that I have owned (i.e. Toyota 4-Runner). Also the vehicle is louder than previously owned vehicles. It is, however, much more powerful and comfortable than any other SUV that I know of in its class AND I can pull my 25 foot trailer in the Colorado Rocie Mountains without any problem!

By Yevgeny - August 24 - 2:23 pmLove my JGCL. 2500 trouble-free miles. Solid and functional design, no sqeaks or rattles. Quarda-drive is excellent in snow and on ice.

Poor Long Term Reliability - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Joliet Jay - August 10 - 12:56 pmThe Jeep Grand Cherokee was a decent SUV for the first five years - but for the last three years its just been bleeding money. In the past 24 months, Ive spend over $7,000 keeping this thing running. New rear axle, right rear bearing, left rear bearing, power steering pump, fuel pump, battery, fuel filter, power window motors (2), two speakers, hood shocks, all new shocks, tires multiple times, 3 new oxygen sensors for the engine, two new engine (spark plug) coils, new fuel regulator, starter. The worst thing is the alignment. Because Jeep does not allow the camber to be adjusted, I have a slight pull to the left, and need to have the tires rotated at 3k miles and replaced often.

Its Still A Chrysler Product - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Gary Ciborowski - July 23 - 10:00 amJeep is noted for recalls and this one has had a few already. While I love the apparent fit and finish, there are obvious design flaws in Jeeps year after year. Certainly overpriced when optioned out. I think Ill find a more affordable vehicle when this one wears out. If you own one for just a couple of years, you may avoid the expensive repairs, but for long-timers like me, they will get you well before 75,000 miles.

2002 Overland - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By crhoof - June 13 - 3:05 pmI bought my Jeep a little under a year ago an Ive already up almost 20,000 miles on it. The truck now has 147,000 miles. I paid $5000 for the car and Ive already almost put $3000 into it in work. The truck has no, NO, resale value.. NOT worth the 12.5 MPG I average.. Terrible jeep customer service, and no worth while recalls. Ive had several wheel seals, drive shaft seals, speakers and heated seats replaced and Jeep says these are "not" common problems. Its pretty and comfortable but not worth time/money.. Save yourself and your money
