This Year's Model Updates:

SR5 models have new 16-inch wheels, and a limited-slip differential is available on V8-powered trucks. No other changes are in store for the 2002 Toyota Tundra.

Pros:
  • Silky V8, Toyota build quality, less-than-full-size maneuverability.
Cons:
  • Lacks wide range of choice offered by domestics, somewhat uncomfortable front seats, meager rear cab room on Access Cab, chintzy interior trimmings.

Edmonds does not show the 2002 Toyota V8 SR5 Access Cab Tundra so I am putting it in with the 4X4 version.

Impressive truck. Test drove the other Big Three truck manufacturers before visiting Toyota. Sure glad I did....the Tundra had a noticeable superior ride and performance. Silky smooth V8 and the transmission is so fluid that you cant tell its shifted unless youve either pegged the accelerator or youre watching the tach move.

I have the basic model of truck. It is very reliable with no mechanical faults to this point. The only thing, which is minor would be the pop-up drink holder stopped working. This seem like a small thing until the Toyota dealership quoted me $170.00 for the replacement part. Overall, I am delighted with the Tundra full size truck. The comfort level over my Nissan truck (the Frontier) is Night and Day.The cupholder upsets me because I am spoiled by the quality and reliablity of my Toyota truck.I would buy another Toyota truck if that time ever comes.Thats just the way it is. Best Regards, Sid Smith

My truck has been a great ride for almost four years now. Everything continues to offer a smooth experience - except for the disfunctional cupholder. Low noise, decent on gas, no mechanical problems to speak of.

I bought this used 6mo ago with ~65k mi on it and in apparently excellent shape. So far Ive had to deal with grease spitting cv boots, worn out tie rod ends, recalled lower steering ball joints, and I just found out my steering rack is shot and requires replacement! Ive owned several other trucks and never had this much trouble in this short a period. Lemon? Abused by the previous owner? Maybe both, but I expected more from a Toyota. Oh, the mileage is terrible, almost never get above 14mpg for mixed driving. Otherwise its a great truck... I guess.

The Tundra is without a doubt the highest quality truck (or car) I have ever owned. The ride is virtually silent - the power is unbelievable. Why would anyone consider any other brand of truck? Make it easy on yourself, just buy one!

Good value, plenty of power and runs real smooth. Comes standard with lots of options not standard on big3

  • Typical Toyota - 2002 Toyota Tundra

The V8 runs very well, but a little underpowered. Needs VVT valve technology to get the power up. Heater system inadequate. Not enough air, and to the wrong places. Build quality typical Toyota (very good). Needs a little help with transmission logic. 2 to 1 downshift at low speeds annoying, especially on slipery surfaces. Overall, a good reliable pickup, if youre not doing "full sized" chores. This is NOT a full size pickup. But then again, I bought it because it wasnt full sized.

  • thank Heaven for my tundra - 2002 Toyota Tundra

This is by far the best truck I have ever owned. I have 233,000 miles and only brakes, shocks and o/2 sensors been replaced.
