This Year's Model Updates:

SR5 models have new 16-inch wheels, and a limited-slip differential is available on V8-powered trucks. No other changes are in store for the 2002 Toyota Tundra.

Pros:
  • Silky V8, Toyota build quality, less-than-full-size maneuverability.
Cons:
  • Lacks wide range of choice offered by domestics, somewhat uncomfortable front seats, meager rear cab room on Access Cab, chintzy interior trimmings.

  • Not bad - 2002 Toyota Tundra

Ive been a Toyota guy for the past 20+ years. I was looking for a vehicle to pull a mid-size fishing boat. Got the base 6 cyl long bed. Its been an okay truck but not on par with other Toyotas Ive had. No serious problems-- just not as nice. Ive had it for 7 years and its served us well. Getting about 15 mpg in town...21 on hwy

The reliability and quality of Toyota stands out in this truck.

  • Living up to reputation - 2002 Toyota Tundra

I have never owned a Toyota before and have been driving sport-utes for most of my adult life. Toyota has a great reputation and when I finally decided to buy a truck it was an easy choice to rule out the domestic options since their build quality is lacking, Ford would rank second in my opinion. Fit, finish, and driving experience exceed expecation with this truck. More carlike than trucklike and loads of power. Ergonomics are great compared to my wifes Land Rover.

  • A diamond in the rough! - 2002 Toyota Tundra

Ok, overall the truck is great. I traded in my 92 Silverado for this truck and have been pretty happy with it. I average 18mpg on the freeway with luggage/2 adults and a dog in the backseat. I take the Grapevine (I-5 to L.A.) in the fast lane with no problems. I have only a few issues with the truck.

I cant believe Toyota. I have 22000 miles on this truck. It needs front brake pads, tires And there are five TBS On the truck. If I should happen to stop quickly The transmission does not downshift properly. When appling the brakes in reverse There is a sound coming from the front brakes.I give up!

  • Not a bad truck - 2002 Toyota Tundra

I bought the truck with 45,000 miles on it and currently have 65,000. So far it hasnt needed anything besides the routine PMs. I change the oil every 4,000 and flush the trans fluid every 20,000 because Im a freak about my drivetrain, I wrecked a lot of my GMs from hurting those. I havent had any problems with my rotors warping but my brakes are pretty spongy, lots of travel in the pedal. It can haul the equipment youll need unless you get crazy with it. Acceleration is not bad but it hauls on the high end. Fuel mileage is 13 to 16 mpg so you can pass the pump that often. Otherwise not a bad truck.

Previously owned 86 Ford Bronco(bought new). Got tired of fixing it all the time and I do mean all the time. The Tundra oozes in quality. The ride is soft and very quiet, engine very powerful, seats comfortable and good driving position. Under the hood it is a sheer enginering marvel, a home mechanics dream.

  • Would Buy Again - 2002 Toyota Tundra

Best driving Ive had with a truck or a car. Would like better gas mileage, but it is one of the best in its class. Would definitely buy again. Great truck.

  • Not Bad but could improve - 2002 Toyota Tundra

The vehicle is strong, quick and quiet. The feel is very solid. Put in a good stereo system and you will enjoy driving this vehicle even on the long trips. This is a very dependable and quiet truck.

  • Awesome Truck - 2002 Toyota Tundra

I drive 100 miles a day to and from work. Not one problem. I love this truck and see it going 200000 easy. Great power, comfort. I raised the front 1.5 inches to level the truck out, added Mickey Thompson wheels, Indy Firehawk tires and a hard tonneau and I have a clean, dependable ride. I have and will reccommend this truck to any and all that will listen. Buy one. The new 4 doors have room mine doesnt. BUY ONE
