  • Worth the wait - 2016 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

It took 5 months and a special order to get the 2016 Tacoma 4 door with the long bed. Apparently that configuration requires a non-standard frame that they told me only about 5% of Tacomas come on. The downside of doing a special order was that they werent willing to haggle on price beyond the standard rebate. My old RAM was showing its age, and I hated the 14mpg. I was actually ready to replace the RAM last year, but everything I had heard about the Tacoma said to wait for the 2016, since it was restyled and had the much more efficient engine. I knew I was giving up a lot of storage space from the RAM, and that Id have to get an external tool box for the Tacoma. That meant getting the long bed, unless you want just 3 1/2 feet of bed space. Anyway, once it arrived, it did deliver the 20mpg on the sticker, so Im pretty well pleased with the truck. I got the mid-range TSS option package, with the larger wheels - it clears the bumps I used to bottom out on with the RAM. I kind of wish Id spent the extra money on the "Limited" options in order to get push button ignition, automatic climate control and head lights, and locking gas cap.

  • Transmission problem with only 5000 miles - 2016 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

I bought this car 5 months ago. It has a major transmission problem. Dealer could not fix it and offered to replace the transmission with a rebuilt transmission. I did not like that and called the Toyota and they escalated it to the manger to look into it but they will not put in a new transmission in my car. The case worker at Toyota is very polite but very bossy and keep saying I am sorry but that is your only option. I am currently looking for a lawyer to sue Toyota.

  • Traded 2013 Ford XLT loaded and GLAD I did! - 2016 Toyota Tacoma

This is a great city truck as I call it. I am 63" tall and the only thing to get use to is getting in and out, the steering wheel needs to have more adjustments or the seat. I have gotten use to it and no longer an issue. If you are tall like myself stay away from the power moon roof it takes away your head room. I have 1500 miles on it now and love it more than any truck I have owned ( about 10,the last 3 being new!) Have not had any problems at all. Great city Truck!

  • Big improvement from the 2010 model - 2016 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

I traded in my 2010 Tacoma for the 2016 model year mainly for the improved gas mileage. The 2010 was 14 - 15 around town and 21 on the highway. Im seeing 19.5 around town ang got 26.7 for a 2 hour highway trip at 65 mph. The 2016 is quieter, smoother and better handling. BTW I got 20 K for a trade in on my 2010 that I paid 26900 for so Im expecting this 2016 to also hold its value extremely well.

  • transmission update - 2016 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

I have 5000 miles on my 2016 Toyota Tacoma and was not too happy with the way the transmission shifted. On my first oil change I mentioned a transmission update, and my dealer was surprised I knew about that. They told me there was an update available and I am a lot happier with the shifting. I got my information reading these reviews. So people do read these

  • The Random Ramblings of a Taco Owner. - 2016 Toyota Tacoma

You should buy this vehicle if youre looking for someone who does light-moderate hauling or towing. If youre someone who hits the trails and frequents off-pavement sites and/or traverses through bad weather/terrain, this is a vehicle you should consider. If you need to fit three car seats in the back, this truck will also fit the bill. If you want something that is reliable (based on 6k miles), then this is a truck you should consider. If you care about strong resale value, this is a truck you should consider. If you expect a lot of low-end grunt, you may be disappointed. The torque peak is at 4600 rpm. The truck is somewhat underwhelming in the lower end because of its relative lack of torque and because the transmission is biased towards mileage. The horsepower peak is 6000 rpm (100 rpm short of the rev limiter (as far as I know)). If you want this thing to move with any gusto, you will have to floor board it (the throttle may be biased towards off roading where the throttle should be feathered). The cruise control also has some interesting behavior. On anything that is perceived as a grade, the transmission will down shift. However, once the grade flattens out, the transmission will not shift back up. You either have to disengage the cruise control or manually shift it yourself. Im coming from a BMW 3-series (with an 8 speed auto and a 2.0L turbo with 255 lb-ft @ 1200 rpm) so I can definitely vouch that this thing is soft at the lower end. I also purchased the Tacoma for its MPG ratings. Its a truck so I dont expect to get 36 mpg on the highway, but so far I cannot even hit the combined rating on its EPA sticker (21 MPG). I range from 16-18 MPG (even with judicious use of the throttle). Granted, I have off road tires and the chin spoiler delete (I suspect these are good for 1 MPG). Interior quality is fairly good. Im not very tall (59 and 210 lbs). After playing with the manual adjustments on the seat, I did manage to find a good seating position. For a truck, I think the handling and braking are decent. I dont tow anything and havent carried any heavy loads in the bed so I cannot really say whether or not I miss disc brakes at the rear. As for the ride quality, I drove a 2015 with the TRD off-road suspension and it seems better controlled in the 2016. Wind noise is also markedly reduced in the 2016. Some cost cutting is apparent in this truck. I appreciate the smart key system but you can only get in on the drivers side. Most of the time, it suits me just fine but sometimes I need to grab something out of the passenger side of the truck. Im not sure of the reasoning behind this move. Another area where some cost cutting may have occurred is the decision to use the drum brakes in the rear. Overall, the 2016 Tacoma is not perfect, but its a solid value.

  • Nice Truck with Some Concerns - 2016 Toyota Tacoma

Before purchasing this truck I also seriously considered the Colorado and Canyon. Those trucks have smoother rides and maybe a little more on demand power than the Tacoma. But, those are the only areas where they might be better. The Tacoma has features that the others dont even offer, including far better technology (amazing on the Tacoma), sun/moon roof (a must for me as a former convertible owner), far more exciting interior materials and layout, and a really fun ride. The Tacoma also has great storage compartments in the bed of the truck, and the limited comes with the tonneau cover. Put all of this together and I dont know why anyone would buy any other truck in this class. This is a great truck. The truck could have more "umph" when you step on the gas, but the "ect" button really gives this a boost, and if you truly do "step on the gas," it gives you all you ask for. But, you have to step on it a bit more than on other vehicles. Once you get used to this, you have an amazing truck that promises a lot of fun and utility for a long time to come. And the looks! Nothing else compares. I love this truck! A major drawback is towing. This is the reason Ive given it four instead of five stars. Towing something larger like a travel trailer, even if it falls well within the towing rating for this truck, can be a very scary ride. The truck is so small that the trailer can control the truck, causing the sensation of losing control at higher speeds. I definitely do not recommend this truck for towing anything larger than say, a small boat.

  • TRD off road double cab - 2016 Toyota Tacoma

So far I have been pleased with the truck. Shifting can be a little quirky at times but nothing major. Ride is nice and has plenty of power for me. Gas milage has been better than expected. Getting 21-22 for commute with up to 26 if I dont hit a bunch of lights. Cant wait to get it out on some trails to see how itdoes.

  • Not so great! - 2016 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

Last summer, l Traded a 2016 Tacoma Limited for a Ford F-150 Lariat. What a mistake! After dealing with the sickening floaty bouncy ride, I took the loss and purchased another 2016 Taco ltd. Thanks to Toyota for resale value... Ford resale very bad. Taco not being perfect, is a very fun vehicle to drive... handling and ride on the highway is quite good.

I finally decided to buy a truck but did quite of bit of research and test drives before I purchased on my 2016 Tacoma Sport Double cab. I read a lot of bad reviews about the transmission and pedal lag. Yeah its a little slow but overall I think it drives fine. The interior was nicer than the Chevy Colorado and Honda Ridgeline. I thought the Tacoma has the right balance of sport, interior quality and drive feel. I also drive a BMW 2016 M3. When I want to drive fast I drive my M3 but I do like the ride of the Tacoma. One grip I did have was not having enough models with leather seats. My has cloth but they are comfortable and appear easy to clean. Gas mileage has been fine. I feel like I made a good decision with the tacoma
