I purchased a 2016 Toyota Tacoma TRD sport and the transmission shifts way to much and the gearing seems to be off when shifting.very lousy design and would not recommend this transmission to anyone looking to purchase a Tacoma, hopefully Toyota will correct there mistake.

  • First Taco! - 2016 Toyota Tacoma

I have always wanted a Tacoma, well my dream finally came true. I had a Ford F-150 that ended up getting totaled. I bought a new 2016 Tacoma TRD Sport 4 door short bed. I read as many reviews as I could find on them. I had a few misconceptions in the back of my mind when I went to drive one. The one complaint was the transmission shifting too much when you climb a hill, etc. I do notice it downshifting if its in 6th gear or something, but its nothing that really bothers me. If you need too, give it some more gas. Someone mentioned the seat being too low. I am 59" and it is not too low for me. Maybe its low to the floor, but if it was any higher, I would be in the roof. I am slowly getting use to the technology in these new vehicles, its pretty amazing. My F-150 was a 2006 and I thought it was fancy. I do have a tad of a problem getting in and out of it. I put nerf bars on it, but if I step up on them, then I have to squat way down to get under the steering wheel. If I dont use them then it can be a fairly high step, but Im working on it. It rides nice and seems pretty stiff. It is a 4X4 and I like the way it rides. I have a 800 lb Polaris 600 4 wheeler. It fit in the back of the truck with the tailgate down, no problem. It had no power issues hauling it around. I think it has good power and acceleration. As mentioned in my title, this is my first Tacoma and so far I really like it. It is taking a little getting use to since I downsized from a full size truck. Mine has a wireless phone charger. I have a Samsung S6 with wireless capability. There appears to be a problem with either this system or my phone. It charges then cuts out, then charges more. My wife put her Note 5 on the charger and it had no problems. I will keep playing with it before I take it back to the dealer. I am just trying to give people an honest opinion on this new truck from an owners perspective. It only has about 550 miles on it, but I like it more and more each time I drive it.

So far I have been pleased with the truck. Shifting can be a little quirky at times but nothing major. Ride is nice and has plenty of power for me. Gas milage has been better than expected. Getting 21-22 for commute with up to 26 if I dont hit a bunch of lights. Cant wait to get it out on some trails to see how itdoes.

  • 2nd update after 9 months of ownership - 2016 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

Cannot wait to get rid of this 2016 Tacoma when the lease expires. What a dog. New updates - 1. mileage dropped to 10 mpg when towing; 2. NAV screen goes black at least 1x per day and resets itself; and 3. wind howling noise driver side front window. And off course still the same old lack of responsiveness of the engine-- normally runs at less than 2000 rpm and you have to push accelerator pedal more than 1/2 down before it responds creating a very dangerous condition in traffic. Cmon man.

  • Second Taco - 2016 Toyota Tacoma

Having owned a 2012 Tacoma, I enjoy the 2016 so much more. I waited 3 months to get it, and it was worth the wait. I have no complaints except the funky transmission programming that seems to default to a lower gear at the slightest of inclines or headwind. I have noticed that it doesnt (or need to) downshift nearly as much if you dont use cruise control under those conditions. The truck moves when you put your foot on it, and it doesnt sound strained doing so. Im optimistic Toyota comes out with some improved transmission programming soon. Overall, I find it comfortable, and I enjoy the upgraded JBL system. The Taco looks awesome, and I dont see one like it at every street corner like the Big 3s trucks. Other than the tranny programming, I love it!

After owning 4 Tundras the last one a 13 platinum I decided to trade for a new tacoma limited, after ready how improved it was, waited over 2 months for it to come in,salesman thought it had power seats but couldnt confirm,I read conflicting articles mostly saying no power seats, well majority of articles were correct, against my better judgment I completed the deal, maybe I was spoiled by the Tundra but this tacoma is very ! Uncomfortable went back to the dealership with 160 miles to trade on a tundra but, only giving me over $4000 less so no deal, the truck also feels very under powered whe in town driving, and the tranny, seems to hunt not a enjoyable drive, ended up trading for a f150 platinum I believe this was a great choice, gas mileage the same as tacoma and so comfortable ! Even so much more than the tundra, just hope its as reliable, after driving only Toyotas for years this took a leap of faith the tacoma purchase may have been last toyota purchase.

  • Outstanding Value - 2016 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

This is my 3rd Tacoma and by far its the best. From performance to gas mileage, comfort and quite. An excellent vehicle with everything I was looking for. I do mostly highway driving with average trip being 2400 miles and gas mileage has ranged from 27.2 mpg to 25.8 (heavy wind in Eastern CO, Western OK and Central TX). In town I average 20.3 mpg. Mine is a 2X4, with a tonneau cover, and a KN filter, maybe thats why high mpg. Any way I think its an outstanding value and Im very satisfied. Live in CO but went to MS to purchase because, the model I wanted an SR5 Access Cab, 2X4, was not sold in the Mountain District.

  • "BEWARE" OF THE 2016 TOYOTA TACOMA TRD OFF ROAD - 2016 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

Take it from someone who has owned Toyota trucks since the mid 80s, the 2016 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Road is the "WORST" truck Ive ever owned. If I had it to do over, I would not have bought this truck. I wish I would have read the reviews from previous buyers before assuming this was going to be another Toyota quality vehicle and that was not the case. If you are reading this post "before" you purchase this truck, I would advise you to 1st, not buy this truck. But, if you are interested in buying this truck I would recommend you to "test drive" the truck a lot before buying it. Even if you have to go to several different dealerships. I dont even have 2,500 miles on my truck & planning on selling or trading it before the first 5,000 mile service. I have never been more disappointed in the truck and in the lack of help from the dealership that I bought it from. The only people that could honestly give this truck a 5 Star Review, would be the salesmen. Had two firmware updates since posting , Toyota still working on transmission and other issues. Update 08/19/2017 still dealing with Toyota corp. I AM STILL HAVING TROUBLE WITH TRANSMISSION SHUDDING, FLARE AND CLUNKS WHEN YOU STOP, STILL VERY UNHAPPY.

  • Not so great! - 2016 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

Last summer, l Traded a 2016 Tacoma Limited for a Ford F-150 Lariat. What a mistake! After dealing with the sickening floaty bouncy ride, I took the loss and purchased another 2016 Taco ltd. Thanks to Toyota for resale value... Ford resale very bad. Taco not being perfect, is a very fun vehicle to drive... handling and ride on the highway is quite good.

  • My third Tacoma. - 2016 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

This is my third Tacoma and is by far the best. I indulged in the Limited. I traded in a full size truck for a smaller truck so it would fit in the garage of my new house. This truck is comfortable, I have leather and heated seats, and the road noise is greatly reduce. I have a Prius C also, so I am used to driving for optimal gas mileage. I get 21-28 mpgs. in the Tacoma and have reached 90.5 in the Prius C. The controls are easy to see and use and the sound system is great. I get a lot of compliments on the truck. It would be nice if the tailgate locked electronically when the truck is locked. The Blind Spot Warning system and Backup Camera come in handy. Some complain about the transmission shifting. I found if you need to accelerate and use the peddle it doesnt seem to have a problem finding the gear. I am not sure why the Prius has a locking gas cap cover and the Tacoma doesnt. The fit and quality is great. Look at other trucks to appreciate the quality. It is large enough to fit some big cargo and the rails and sliding loops are handy.
