  • Comfort, most notably the front seats terrible - 2016 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

Truck has great performance if you drive with ETC activated, does not get the MPGs as advertised averages; averaging 16 MPG around town. Has already been to the service department for an annoying chirping sound cuased by the engine mounted high pressure fuel pump; replaced the pump and have same issue but has resolved itself with 18 k mi on it. Premium technolgy package with JBL is worth the cost. My overall impression of the truck is not good the steering feels vauge on center and is unresopnisive; toyota should have applied the tundras handling characteristics to the tacoma and it would be a home run. Overall i am not satisfied with a $37000 overpriced truck; terrible front seats my 08 Tundra was superior in comfort & handling. Cmon Toyota wake up Im sitting in some of the cheapest and poorly designed seats for comfort Ive ever sat in!!!!

  • TRD Double Cab Off Road 6 bed Review - 2016 Toyota Tacoma

This is my first Tacoma, and I purchased it based on reputation for durability and strong resale. After 800 miles consisting of commuting, couple trips to Mt. Hood for skiing along with some light duty hauling, I would recommend this truck. The Pros: Off-road ability, there is just no other "off the shelf" mid size with this trucks capability and although I have yet to challenge the truck, i am looking forward to it. The cabin is excellent with simple switch gear, dials and easy to read gauges. The tech package, with the 7" nav/audio system is fantastic. Easy to use and intuitive, it puts my fathers Jeep Grand Cherokee infotainment system to shame. (still trying to figure that one out!). And the other big "Pro" for me is the quiet ride. The engineers really made the cab a nice and quiet place where you can have a conversation or listen to music in a nice acoustic atmosphere. The Cons: The 6 speed tranny is constantly on the hunt....its annoying and Toyota should address it. The Power ETC button....WTF Toyota? Its as if the engineers knew the FI mapping was all wrong so they settled with a "Power ETC" button which seems to remap the fuel delivery to give more power???? Im clearly speculating here, but the point is dont have a button for "power etc"...just give us the damn power. Lastly, its true on the front seat....very limited adjustment. Make sure you take a good long test drive and you are happy with the seat. For me, the seat is quite good, so it wasnt a deal killer, but I do understand the complaints out there on the lack of adjust ability. In the end, every car/truck/SUV I have owned over the years has some compromise, so does this truck. However, overall I am quite pleased with the truck, and I really enjoy driving it. It will haul my dirt bikes, get me to the mountain skiing, and I have zero concerns of driving it right onto the beach and not getting stuck....and in the end, this is why I purchased it.....to use it....and again, what truck in this class can do it better?

  • Nice little Truck - 2016 Toyota Tacoma

Ive never owned a Tacoma before and I honestly never liked them in the past but I like my 2016! I got a great deal when I bought it, 6k under MSRP as it was a dealer demo with 1500 miles on it. The transmission does shift more frequently than Id like but after 300 miles of me driving it, it improved a lot. The complaints about the vibrations in the trucks has not been an issue in mine and it doesnt do it. It runs down the highway well, hauls my trailer, dirt bikes, kids, and seems to be fairly capable in the dirt, so I cant complain. To everyone who is complaining about the transmission, pretty much all, new/first model years after a revamp have bugs to work out. The computer does in fact "learn" your driving habits and adjusts accordingly; or you could just buy a standard. Ive been averaging 21 mpg out of the truck in mixed driving which is just slightly better than EPA estimates and I expect it to improve as it has been climbing steadily the more I drive it. I sold my Ford today and my other car is for sale too so I must like the Tacoma! I live in the Colorado mountains and I think it will be a great truck for many years to come!

  • Fun, Solid Vehicle On-road and Off - 2016 Toyota Tacoma

As stated in the vehicle details, I purchased a 2016 Tacoma TRD Off Road with the 6ft bed and have around 500 miles on it. My buying experience (my first time buying a new vehicle) was regrettably long and stress-filled and, in the end, I ended up having to special order the truck I wanted. However, now that I have my Tacoma, I couldnt be happier with it and would really recommend this vehicle to anyone looking for a capable, dependable truck but dont want to have to deal with the overwhelming size or poor gas mileage of a full-sized. The primary purpose of my Tacoma is commuting (17 miles each way) and it really is a dream to drive on pavement. Ive noticed that, with the softer-sprung Bilstein shocks and higher sidewall tires, my Tacoma really soaks up normal the small road "chatter" and easily handles the bigger bumps as well. There is also none of the bone-jarring or harsh pounding that you normally get with a pickup truck when you hit bumps or potholes. Fuel mileage has been exceptional as well, as Ive been getting anywhere between 18-20mpg in-town and 20-24mpg on the highway, if I keep speeds at or under 70mph. For once, the EPA ratings werent exaggerated. Ive taken my truck off road once and, in my experience, it certainly lives up to its reputation. The "road" that I took it on was more of a snowmobile trail that included muddy washouts and bony/rocky sections and the Tacoma ate up everything I threw at it. I was a bit worried about the seating position and lack of adjustability with the front seats and steering wheel but the Tacoma is actually a lot more comfortable than I was expecting. Im 58" with a fairly small frame and the seats and interior fit me perfectly. The "legs-out" driving position that gets so much flak from reviewers is actually how I normally drive so it was no problem for me. I will end with a word of caution and advise for those looking to buy a 2016 Tacoma: before buying this vehicle, have your dealer check the transmission fluid level because it is likely going to be low. Many, many people have been complaining about harsh shifting, especially when slowing down or going from Reverse to Drive. Its been discovered that a lot of units, especially those who have bought models with the optional Tow Package, are being shipped from the factory with low levels of tranny fluid. Its assumed that the factory techs arent taking into account the extra transmission fluid cooler that comes installed with the Tow Package, which adds volume to the transmission system, thus requiring more fluid. Before I purchased my vehicle, I had my dealership check the ATF levels and they discovered that it was low by a little over a liter. They topped off the fluids and I have not had any problems with the transmission.

  • Happy - 2016 Toyota Tacoma

Tipical toyota, firm ride & steering, simple controls, solid feel, good storage . Navigation screen hard to see in bright light, transmission shifts out of lower gear to quickley. Gas milage for a truck is good. Size of veh. is perfect, not to big or small.

  • Second Tacoma - 2016 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

Last Tacoma 2011 trade in 17500 dollars, highest trade in for any other truck brand I ever owned. The 2011 Tacoma had routine maintenance never any mechanical issues just tires and oil changes. The 2016 Tacoma gets 1-1/2 GPM more than the last Tacoma same HP but the 2016 has a 6 speed transmission, improve body style, better seat covers. The SR series has heated outside mirrors and fog lights an upgrade from the 2011 Tacoma SR series. Dont care for the plastic rear bumpers, but the tailgate is much more substantial and has a soft open and close feature. Wish they would have put disc brakes on the rear wheels maybe next year, overall would recommend this truck.

  • 2016 Limited = SR5 with Leather - 2016 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

If you are like me and want the TRD off road performance with the luxury of leather, dont purchase the limited. Get the TRD off road and have a third party install the leather. After purchasing a 2016 Tacoma 4x4 limited a couple weeks ago with all the options including the tow package, I was very disappointed to discover the limited doesnt have the TRD off road performance options. The website and brochure say under the description of the limited, "adds or replaces features on the TRD off road." It does none of this and basically replaces the TRD off road features with the SR5 features. Love the truck, but disappointed the limited doesnt have the TRD off road performance.

  • YOU WONT FORGET ITS A TRUCK - 2016 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

Have been driving the 2016, 4WD, SR-5, 6 cyl. Tacoma Access Cab for about 2 years now. The 6 speed auto is continually shifting. The drone from the engine and exhaust is LOUD! The new Atkinson Cycle engine may have more horsepower, but it doesnt show. Acceleration is slow - much less than what I get from my 2013 6 cyl. Highlander. It rides rough! You definitely will know you are riding in truck. The step-up into the truck is high and awkward. The drivers seat is way too low and its uncomfortable. It handles well and gas mileage is 20 -23 depending on the trip distance. Instrumentation, gauges, etc. are fine, but the temp control and fan speed is hard to decipher. The composite bed is nice and saves buying a liner. I use it as a truck and bought it for reliability, so it works for me. If youre looking for a quiet, smooth ride with barely noticeable shifting, you dont want a Tacoma. If youre looking for a reliable work truck, this one is tops. UPDATE: After driving the Tacoma for 2 years now, I have nothing new to add to my comments above - and nothing to change. I will note that with a yard of mulch or a half yard of crushed gravel in the bed it rides much better and the shifting is a lot smoother. But for everyday use, Toyota could have done a much better job with the suspension, noise suppression and the transmission. Mileage now (11/17) is 6700. The trucks obsession with frequent shifting is annoying to say the least. Between 50 and 53 mph it frequently bucks and carries on like theres water in the gas as it cant decide if it wants to change gears or not. The engine/transmission matchup on this truck might produce good mileage, but its a real nuisance to drive. Theres a TSB out on this shifting issue which some say helps the problem and I plan to have the dealer apply that on my next visit.

  • great new styling - 2016 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

The new 3.5 liter engine does not have great acceleration unless you really hit the pedal. The new engine has more mid-range power, presumably it helps for highway mileage. Great new tech with phone charging pad and the always awesome crawl control. It seemed to get good gas mileage driving around town, better than any full size for sure.

  • Had it a week and so far so good - 2016 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

Really rides nice. I hate the mpg but I drive a lot. The interior package is great. I can switch from radio to XM to podcasts all with my thumbs. The look is nice. I do feel the transmission looking for gears in the city but most of the time on the highway I can keep it smooth. I really want to drive it off-road but my wife wont let me...yet!
