  • DISAPPOINTING - 2016 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

I am a bit disappointed in the 2016 Tacoma. Tough to climb into; acceleration is not great in the V-6; the 6-speed is constantly shifting; shifting could be a lot smoother; engine noise is bad; road noise is bad; front seat is way too low and too soft - very uncomfortable and cheap looking; heater is ungodly loud on high. It looks great and rides fairly well. Given all that, Id still take it over any mid-size US truck. But Toyota has a lot of work to do if they want to keep the Tacoma as a best seller.

  • Windshield Issues - 2016 Toyota Tacoma

I traded in my 2009 Tacoma for the 2016. First impression was that it had everything that I wanted that the 2009 didnt have. It was lacking a little in the storage compartments with the redesign, but for me that is a minor issue. I love the technology, but do struggle a little with the bluetooth which doesnt want to talk from time to time. Could be a phone compatibility issue. I love the style, the comfort and the brand. But, with this model there is one thing Ive had problems with and thats the windshield. At 200 miles on the odometer, I picked up a pebble on the interstate that smacked the windshield and spider webbed it. I used to get hit by pebbles all the time in my 2009 and never even got a chip, much less a crack. I figured it was luck of the draw until I went to have it replaced. The windshield replacement company made a comment on how many 2016 Tacomas theyve had to replace windshields on. I did some research and found that they are using a new multi-glass layered windshield to cut down on cabin noise. It only makes sense, more layers = thinner glass on the outer layer making it more susceptible to cracking or chipping. At $1200 its no cheap replacement either. But, after paying my deductible, the insurance company took care of it. Now at 2700 miles on my odometer, guess what? Another pebble and now another cracked windshield. Because its new, they have no data on breakages at Toyota. I filed a report today. I have a strong feeling this will be a recall issue.

  • I LOVE MY TACOMA. LIFE GETS HARD IF YOUR DUMB. - 2016 Toyota Tacoma

I dont understand why everyone is complaining about the interior and engines in the new 2016. If you buy an SR get ready for it to be exactly what it is an SR bone stock basic edition. The V6 is an all new engine, why buy it wait till the reviews are out and then decide after the fact, personally they should have stuck with the old V6. The engine is basically in an SR, a complete swap from 2015. Do some research before you purchase and life will be a lot easier for you. The dumber you are the harder life will be. My SR is perfect for what I use it for. A daily driver with some light 4x4 action. If you have kids and an old lady your better off getting a different model as mine was the utility package with rear seat delete. Which for me is awesome. I have so much room for stuff I dont want in the bed. So far I love the truck, I did my homework and it fits me perfectly. Some minor things could be tweaked. Forget the rear view camera, its a little truck there really is no point, make cruise standard and the camera an option. Either way if your smart and do your homework which I have, cruise can be installed for $67, buy the switch and install yourself.

  • dont do it!!! - 2016 Toyota Tacoma

I just got this truck and only has 1500 miles on it. I like the interior and technology. I actually like everything about the truck except engine/transmission combo. The engine is pretty good in ECT mode but the problem is you have to hit that button every time you start it. The transmission is by far the worst i have driven in the 24 vehicles i have owned. I am cruising at 55mph on flat ground and the truck is shifting up and down at a steady speed as it doesnt know what gear its supposed to be in. Completely takes away the enjoyment in driving it. In the last 15 years i have only bought toyotas as i cant believe i am saying this, this will be my last one for awhile and Im going to open a case with Toyota to try and get my money back. Its really too bad cause i really wanted to like this truck since i spent the money on it. The good thing is i only make mistakes once.

  • Made in America unlike GM - 2016 Toyota Tacoma

  • Well designed and built, but underpowered - 2016 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

Truck is solidly built. No rattles or squeaks, good audio, comfortable and quiet at highway speeds. However, the engine lacks low- end torque and this issue is exacerbated by very poor software mapping for the transmission. In an apparent effort to improve mileage, the transmission shifts quickly to keep the RPMs low as a result, the engine is always out of its powerband, making it feel even more sluggish. You can overcome this annoyance to some degree by putting it in Sport mode, or selecting the ECT mode. But you shouldnt have to do this. It drives like a slug unless youre very aggressive on the throttle. At highway speeds, the transmission is always hunting for the right gear. The engine is very noisy at all speeds. This is apparently normal and is due to its injectors and Atkinson Cycle function. It sounds like a diesel with 500k miles on it. Very annoying and disappointing for a truck this expensive.

  • An Honest Review From A New Tacoma Owner - 2016 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

Let me start off this review by saying that I have never owned a Tacoma before or a truck. Also I have had my Tacoma for about 10 weeks now. I felt it was necessary to write a review to defend this truck. This is a great truck and I would recommend it, but lease it till they work out the bugs. First off, Ill start off with one of probably the most important questions, the mpg. I average around 20 mpg, doing about 60% city, 40% highway. If you do a lot of highway driving, my mpg meter has gone as high as 26mpg, as long as you dont drive like a jerk, you should get decent mileage. But when you buy a truck youre not buying it for the mpg, you buy it for versatility, otherwise go buy a Prius. Moving onto performance and ride quality. In terms of performance, I will admit acceleration can be a bit sluggish, especially when you need it. However, I find that if you turn the ect pwr button on or put it in sport mode, that does seem to loosen up the transmission a bit for better acceleration. Its no race car, but it still has ample passing power. In terms of ride quality, its relatively smooth, but when going over bumps it gets pretty rough, so ride quality is so-so. And to add to that steering is pretty responsive. In terms of the interior, I love it, its very simplistic but very nice and clean layout. I have cloth seats and theyre very comfy, and the infotainment centers touchscreen is very responsive and user friendly. In terms of sound system, I had heard Toyota speakers were garbage, but to be honest theyre actually pretty decent. Certain genres of music can be on the quieter side and require you to really crank it up. But overall, for the non-jbls they still have pretty decent bass. Last but not least, Id just like to add that, the backup camera makes parking the Tacoma even easier, as its nimble size makes it easier to get through tight spaces. The design is definitely a big improvement in my opinion. Overall I give it 4 stars, its a great truck, but still has its short comings, hopefully when my lease is up theyll make more improvements on the little things. Hope this review helped any future buyers!
