Like the others have said, the only-and I mean only, drawbacks to this vehicle are: Price (expensive) and drivers seat/steering wheel adjustability. The looks, ride, resale value, acceleration, handling, comfort, electronics, etc. are wonderful! I love my new truck! If Toyota is reading this, I recommend two more inches of telescopic steering wheel adjustment, a lowered footbed, and/or a drivers seat with height adjustment. Everything else is perfect!

  • Test Drove for 24 Hours - 2016 Toyota Tacoma

For all who gave positive reviews, you probably didnt own other tacomas to compare it to. It is very underpowered. The tranny shifts too many times trying to find a comfortable gear. The truck looks nice but thats about it. I drove the truck for 24 hours and I believe had I had a 5 minute test drive around the block Id probably wouldve bought one. I also test drove a 2015 Tacoma and it felt more powerful. I think Toyota will make changes to the 2018 model because there are too many complaints about the same issues.

In all honesty if not for the engine and transmission this would be my favorite truck I have owned. Looks are flawless in my opinion and comfort is what Id expect from a 4x4 truck. But thats the best Ill give it. On day 3 of owning the tacoma my check engine light came on with the most awful vibration. I immediately took it back to the dealer to find out 6 injectors needed to be replaced. While there I reported a bad delay in going from park to drive, and this especially concerned me backing out of my driveway in the mornings going to work, a couple times up to 5 seconds (imagine sitting in the highway 5 seconds stalled). After three visits to the service dept about this they check the transmission fluid to find it is nearly a quart low! This is still within the 1000 miles and they claim they cant reproduce it. I reproduced it in the truck with the mechanic and that still got me no where as "thats normal". As the other reviewers also mentioned the throttle response and shifting is horrible. They are ABSOLUTELY CORRECT. Nearly every day I press the gas pedal moderately and it gets hung in the wrong gear, bogs the engine, begins to slow slightly, so I press harder. Suddenly after a few seconds it decides to rev very high and jump into far too low of gear (or out of gear completely) and significantly slows the truck. I completely let off the gas, coast down the highway, and wait for it to shift back in to gear (again stalling in the highway). All while the service manager says the shifting is "normal with these new electronic transmissions". If you dont mind a truck that will stall you in the middle of the road, buy this truck. Otherwise go buy something else. It is obvious from the transmission fluid and characteristics of this transmission this truck never saw a day of quality control or testing.

  • Terrible Seats! - 2016 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

Went to the Toyota Dealership to purchase a Tacoma. Love the looks of the redesign and was ready to but. Test drive lasted 30 seconds. Drivers sea is extremely uncomfortable. Cant imagine sitting in it for more than 15 minutes without experiencing significant back and leg pain. Im 62" 220 lbs. The seat cushion is stationary and does not ratchet up or tilt back. Also the thigh support is none existent! Shame.

  • The illusion of reliability. - 2016 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

When you think of the name Toyota one of the first things that may come to mind may be reliability, well the 2016 tacoma is far from that. For having the truck for over a year and now 25k, it is now clear to me that this truck was not ready for its release, Ive had issues with the truck ranging from the transmission delaying to getting several recalls done on a brand new truck, not to mention the current famous recall for a quarter million trucks that has had my truck and thousands of others Tacoma sitting at the dealership for over 2 months. If you do your research make sure you hear it first-hand from actual people who own the truck, websites such as tacomaworld.com are very informative and will give you first-hand reviews coming from actual Tacoma owners who own the truck. Thousands of owners share my disappointment for what the Tacoma could have been, due to its recalls, and problems with the truck and the unfortunate part has been that all of us have been ignored by Toyota about the problems we have been having with the Tacoma because they are still going to sell thousands of them regardless of the customers being unhappy. Do yourself a favor before you buy and really research what people are saying about the Tacoma, not just magazine authors, or professional reviewers.

  • 2016 Limited = SR5 with Leather - 2016 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

If you are like me and want the TRD off road performance with the luxury of leather, dont purchase the limited. Get the TRD off road and have a third party install the leather. After purchasing a 2016 Tacoma 4x4 limited a couple weeks ago with all the options including the tow package, I was very disappointed to discover the limited doesnt have the TRD off road performance options. The website and brochure say under the description of the limited, "adds or replaces features on the TRD off road." It does none of this and basically replaces the TRD off road features with the SR5 features. Love the truck, but disappointed the limited doesnt have the TRD off road performance.

  • Overall really poor quality for a Toyota - 2016 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

Really really poor quality for a Toyota product as I have owned or driven them for large parts of my life. So lets start with the exterior. Very crappy paint, as it is very easy to scratch, have a new scratch just from my summer coat sleeve, and one from just leaning my fishing pole against the side for a second to close the tailgate, in some ways its almost like it didnt get a clear coat. The metal exterior shell is flimsy and the doors sound hallow when you close them, and just seem extremely cheap construction. So on to the interior: From the start the heating/AC system made a really high pitched almost squealing sound for the first 5-7 minutes each time you start using it then would go away. During the first heavy rain the Truck started leaking water into the passenger side thru the passenger handle which has an airbag in it, after inspection at least 1 seem on that side of the vehicle was not welded at the factory. Which the dealer said will take a bit of time to fix and would need to keep the truck. Which want to then charge me for the rental for a MFG defect. This is all in the first just over 3 months of owning the new Tacoma. I would not recommend it to anyone until they 1 upgrade the crappy materials and construction to include a better quality control system at factory. Though I do like the new overall look and additions both inside and out of the 2016 Tacoma, the quality is completely void in this years model.

  • TRD Off road review - 2016 Toyota Tacoma

First off love the truck. It looks great in my opinion with toyota reliability. I really like the interior which feels simple but advance and stylish. I like the seat and steering wheel position. It does like to shift around but its trying to save fuel. If your driving a hilly around it has an overdrive type of switch to stay in gear longer but use more fuel of course. I have used crawl mode once to test it on a dirt hill. It did amazing and crawled right up. Friends 2010 wrangler got stuck in a pot hole on the hill right after and had to back out and get more speed. Overall very impressed with the truck.

  • Adjust your expectations - 2016 Toyota Tacoma

First off, I bought this truck (2016 Toyota Tacoma Sport TRD) to avoid using either of our other cars for hauling lumber and plywood that I use in my woodworking as well as to have a utility vehicle available for bad weather. This Tacoma fits those needs quite well, so I am quite pleased with that. But, now that the fanfare is making its way around the internet about how great the upgrades are from the 2015 model I am really glad that I waited, I can only conclude that the 2015 and previous was a real dog. Toyota gets a big plus for the redesign of the interior, I really like the infotainment system and navigation. It is very logical and intuitive and was easy to get used to. While much is being said about the new Atkinson cycle engine, I have to admit to being disappointed. I just returned from a 700 mile round trip from Denver to Moab, and I was amazed at how hard the engine had to work to only maintain the speed limit (which happens to be 80 mph in Utah). The transmission was in either third (at 4,200 rpm) or fourth (at 3,500 rpm) most (say 75%) of the time. As a result, milage came in around 17, not too hot, and actually worse than my previous Toyota (Tundra with the V8 and lots more power). There are some key things missing besides adequate power: who doesnt include remote garage door opener as standard nowadays, no back up parking assist, no blind spot indicator, no auto headlights, no dual-zone temp control, no remote tailgate lock, no automatic headlights. For $36,000 maybe I should not expect all of this, but surely Toyota could have popped for some of it. If the company is serious about reversing the market share loss they must be feeling from the GMC Canyon and Chevy Colorado they need to step up and make standard some of the features that just seem basic to all cars today. I would have been willing to pay more, and would have felt the value was there. So, adjust your expectations when you think about this truck. If you want a good basic truck like I ended up with you should still consider the competition. But, all in all, I like this thing enough to keep it for the 2 year term of the lease. I am sure by the end of that time Toyota will have seen they missed the mark and will update this vehicle to modern standards.
