  Heading Back to the Dealer After First Fue Fill Up - 2016 Toyota Tacoma

  I so much want to like and live with the 2016 Tacoma, but as other reviewers have mentioned the truck has a fatal flaw with its engine/transmission combination. As a result, Im returning the truck w/ only 400 miles as it almost couldnt make it to my office today with a full tank of gas! Granted I work at 6,200 and there was a 20 mph wind blowing. But seriously, this truck is a dog. I read on Edmunds that the new V6 (with supposedly 42 increased HP) combined with the Atkinson cycle and a 6-speed automatic transmission is a full second slower in speed tests from 0 to 60 than last years model, and I believe it. It sounds like a bad marriage. The transmission keeps the engine in the low RPM range, but w/ the Atkinson cycle, peak HP & torque is up around 5,000 rpm. Very hard to get the truck to its power band. It feels like the two systems were designed by engineers who didnt consult one another. The truck is always shifting. At times, it feels as though its in too high of a gear and the engine/transmission vibrate. When you step on the gas, theres a huge delay as the transmission may have to drop 2 or 3 gears to get going and then you have to wait for the engine to rev up. There is an extra power button, but that doesnt help all that much. Apparently, the Atkinson cycle works well in the Toyota Prius, where it saves gas, but not in this truck. Its because of its lack of power, and more importantly, snow accelerator response, that Im returning my 2016 Toyota Tacoma.

  I picked up a new limited 12/31/15 drove it 62 miles and the check engine light came on took it to the dealer on 1/2/2016 and its still there 1/17/2016 .they are working with toyota to figure out the problem they cant seem to get the parts for repair. wish I had never bought the truck and would never buy one again

  cracked windshield - 2016 Toyota Tacoma

  We have owned our 2016 Toyota Tacoma for 2 months today, I parked truck in parking lot at work come out 3 hours later to go to lunch and my window was cracked shape of L, there was no sign of anything hitting it called the dealership Thomasville Toyota and they told me nothing they can do, to call our insurance company. Now I see I am not the first with this issue they need to recall and replace all windshields.

  Haunting for gear transmission - 2016 Toyota Tacoma

  I have owned mine for about 14 months and 8400 miles now. I do mostly highway driving. With annoying shiftdowns from 6 to 5 during 70 mph highway cruising speed, I decided to shift to manual or S mode and leave it in 5th gear. At 70-72 mph, in 6th gear, RPM is at 1900. in 5 gear, it is at 2200. There is very slight more engine noise in 5th but a lot better than constant down shifting. I am not sure this 3.5 V-6 is that great. I really dont care about its port injection, direct injection, and its Adkin cycle engine technology . This truck gas mileage is the same as my 2003 Ford Explorer with its ancient 4.0L V-6 engine. I can only see complexity under the hood without tangible benefit. The rest of the truck is excellent. The engine/transmission are NOT what I expected from Toyota. My 2009 Mercedes E350 with its 7 speed transmission never down shifts at 70mph. I sure hope Toyota comes up with some transmission programming update so it does not hunt for right gear all the time.

  Couple of Details and info for you. I live in Denver 5280 feet above sea level, this may affect my outcome. Second this is my 3rd Tacoma a 1997 then a 2007 now the 2016. I have past trucks to compare to. The new Tacoma is a giant disapointment! The power is way lower than the previous 2005 to 2015 trucks. If you own one of those keep it! The gas mileage on my 2007 was an average of 18 mpg, my new 2016 is averaging 15 mpg! 3 mpg less from a newer truck with a 6 speed transmission. Speaking of the 6 speed transmission, why did Toyota waste the money putting it in? The engine makes so little torque and power that I never get to use 6th, 4th and 5th mostly. In the mountain 3rd and 4th work best. Save your money on this over-priced failed updated from Toyota. I will sell mine right after the holidays, my only question is what to buy? Having owned 3 Tacomas just not sure what I will buy since Toyota has nothing I want.

  leased this 2016 toyota tacoma v6, 4 door back in march , toyota had a great affordable deal on this model that the average working man could afford for a toyota truck.first things first the exterior paint is horrible scratches with the slighest touch, first noticed it when i was cleaning a little bird poop off the hood with water and a soft cloth i couldnt believe my eyes there where i just cleaned now had a circular scratch, i cleaned it again and nothing still there . as i looked closer around vehicle there were many similar scratches, when i picked up vehicle they must hide the scratches when they detail it, but when you do your first wash low and behold they reappear.brought it back to dealer they were very good about this situation and detailed it again, so far so good.now the biggest con for this vehicle is the transmission it shifts constantly for what reason i have no idea, after it goes through all the speed shifts its fine then the slighest acceleration it shifts , and shifts ,and shifts and the road isnt even in any kind of incline, i have a 2015 rav 4 that my wife uses with a 4 cyl that rides smooth shifts only when it should, and performs better then my tacoma, i asked her if we could switch vehicles she laughed and said you wanted that truck now live with it. bottom line i do not recommend the tacoma to any one,look into another truck you"ll be glad you did, and for me im stuck with it until the lease is up and when i do return it i feel sorry for the poor sap who purchases it.

  Entune Almost a deal breaker! - 2016 Toyota Tacoma

  I bought the 2016 Tacoma and Im satisfied with the truck but not very happy with it. All things consider, the truck is probably still the best midsize truck, simply because the reliability, handling and "truck feeling" outperforms the rest. However the two weakest points of the truck are the under performance in fuel Economy and the terrible, unfriendly and BAD entune system. If you are the type of guy who is into technology and want his phone to work well and integrate Ina modern way, you will HATE THIS SYSTEM. I cannot understand how Toyota decided to not use Apple CarPlay and android in-car system. Instead they use this in-house version of a system that looks and feels like it belongs with the 2010 model. Some times I wish I should trade in for another brand just because of the frustration it causes. s

  This new generation truck makes some great advancements in ride, comfort and power. The power is a bit stealthy. It comes on smoothly and if your looking for more snap without losing too much fuel economy, just click the ETC button for a more agressive shifting pattern. My wish list for improvements would be for a better speaker system, adjustable seat height and rear seat USB access port. Low beam visabilty is poor. Outside mirrors create huge blind spots.

  6 speed transmission always shifting - 2016 Toyota Tacoma

  The engine has great power, my problem is the transmission is always shifting up/down. It lugs so it downshifts, then it up shifts too quickly and lugs again. The only way to stop this is to shift to "S" and use it to manually shift. This works a bit better, but the trans even thought it is in "S" will still shift on its own. Toyota needs to immediately create a software fix for this problem. It is very annoying and prevents me from giving the truck a 5.
