Overview & Reviews
For 2004, a larger 3.3-liter V6 replaces the 3.0-liter engine, resulting in 10 extra horsepower for a total of 230. Additionally, a fold-flat third-row seat (for two passengers) is now optional on base models and standard on the Limited. To keep the extra passengers content in back, a rear DVD entertainment system is available on Limited models. On the safety front, all Highlanders now come with an electronic stability control system and a tire-pressure warning system, while side curtain airbags for the first and second rows are optional across the board. Rounding out the changes are freshened exterior styling, new seat fabric, new instrument and door panel trim and a 5-hp boost for the base four-cylinder engine (now rated at 160).
- Seats up to seven, carlike ride and handling, smooth and powerful V6 engine, fuel-efficient four-cylinder engine, lots of safety features.
- Gets expensive quickly, limited towing and off-road ability, bland personality.

lst time owner - 2004 Toyota Highlander
By WIDOWXTWO - January 21 - 2:00 amLove this SUV, have had a Blazer and an Explorer in the past, this has the best of the two, plus decent gas milage. Do not do off the road driving, but do use the cargo space frequently. The gas milage is not as good in the city, but is great for the highway. Would buy another one tomorrow!

Toyota Highlander - 2004 Toyota Highlander
By jayteemom - January 15 - 2:00 amI was encouraged to purchase this vehicle by reports in Consumer Reports. Since purchase I have been more than satisfied with the handling of the vehicle in snow and ice. We have had much of this this winter. I have also been impressed with the roominess. It is not too large to navigate, but large enough for my needs. This is the first SUV I have purchased and I feel I will own this car for a long time.

By Eherby - January 15 - 2:00 amI compared several SUV and owned a Blazer prior to this car. Toyota by far has this market. The Highlander is quiet, smooth and fun to drive. Gas mileage is very good.

Almost there.... - 2004 Toyota Highlander
By Kirk831 - January 9 - 1:06 pmEasy to drive, very reliable, quiet and comfortable. Base model was reasonable in price, but those options add up fast ! Rear seat is only for kids, dont believe 2 adults can occupy.

Best new car I have owned - 2004 Toyota Highlander
By Atoyot - December 3 - 2:00 amNot the cheapest SUV around but as far as I can determine, the best value. Prior to this car I woulnt look twice at an SUV--they were all disguised trucks and rode that way to prove my point. It is roomy, rides well and is not a problem to park. Three of my friends have the same car and really are totally pleased.

Love this SUV! No Regrets! - 2004 Toyota Highlander
By Mwilson - October 29 - 9:20 pmOverall I love this SUV! I really did my research when deciding on what to buy. Pricing and reliabilty were big factors in my decision making. I was torn between the Honda Pilot or the Highlander, Im glad I chose the Highlander. Ive owned it for almost two years, and the only thing I would change is the rear window noise, EXTREMELY disturbing. I live in Chicago, and trust me winter driving can be a challenge, but this vehicle handled are winter storms w/no problems. You wont regret it.

Tires humming - 2004 Toyota Highlander
By Vic Patel - September 13 - 12:20 amI bought this vehicle used. No problem for a first couple of months. Even at 125,000 miles, the only problem is tires. I bought all four tires brand new. After about 20,000 miles on the tires they started to hum at speeds of 40 and up. The faster you go the more annoying the humming sound gets. I have had checked the front end alignment, and the tires seem to have worn evenly. Still I do not know what the problem is.

better than a lexus - 2004 Toyota Highlander
By bmullis - August 29 - 10:00 amBought in 2003 and it is a much better value than my wifes Lexus RX 300. It has more interior room, rides as nice and cost 6k less. We now take it on vacations because it is a better family vehicle.
