Overview & Reviews
For 2004, a larger 3.3-liter V6 replaces the 3.0-liter engine, resulting in 10 extra horsepower for a total of 230. Additionally, a fold-flat third-row seat (for two passengers) is now optional on base models and standard on the Limited. To keep the extra passengers content in back, a rear DVD entertainment system is available on Limited models. On the safety front, all Highlanders now come with an electronic stability control system and a tire-pressure warning system, while side curtain airbags for the first and second rows are optional across the board. Rounding out the changes are freshened exterior styling, new seat fabric, new instrument and door panel trim and a 5-hp boost for the base four-cylinder engine (now rated at 160).
- Seats up to seven, carlike ride and handling, smooth and powerful V6 engine, fuel-efficient four-cylinder engine, lots of safety features.
- Gets expensive quickly, limited towing and off-road ability, bland personality.

Great Little SUV - 2004 Toyota Highlander
By Buckey - February 2 - 6:56 amWE use this for long trips some times in snow country. Its comfortable to drive and has a positive feel on the road. Lots of places to store gear etc. I wish the rear seat would lay flat when down and a little chrome on the grillwork would perk it up. I cant believe Im driving a 4 cyl. (except at the gas pump) its great. I use it for hunting and pull a loaded trailer with ATV and lots of gear and hardly know its there. The getting in and out height is just right (Im no spring chicken} the rear loading height is great too. Ride and handling is good also.

Great Buy - 2004 Toyota Highlander
By Dave 2 - January 14 - 2:00 amI bought my 04 Highlander about six weeks ago - my first Toyota. So far it has proven to be everything I was told. I bought the "base model" with a few options and got a GREAT deal. Given the current price of gas, I opted for the 4 cyl. and I am getting 26 mpg on the highway. The ride and acceleration is smooth and comfortable. So far a great car!

Traded in Sequoia/Gas mileage - 2004 Toyota Highlander
By Alias/User - August 28 - 10:00 amI was so tired of pulling into the gas station with the Sequoia. Ive also had a 4Runner, which I prefer in all aspects except gas mileage. The Highlander is great on slippery roads and has enough space for kids and dogs. I like this car a lot.

I love my Highlander - 2004 Toyota Highlander
By ForthOfJulyGirl - August 28 - 10:00 amI love my Highlander. It is attractive, responsive, and smooth. The interior is very comfortable for five people. Its the perfect size, not like some of the tanks people are driving these days.

pretty good highlander - 2004 Toyota Highlander
By Sspjal - July 21 - 2:00 amgood value for price. fabulous in winter driving. very reliable. control easy to learn and use. plenty of cargo space. gas economy only fair. too much road noise enters passenger compartment.
