Overview & Reviews
Completely redesigned, the 2009 Toyota Corolla looks much the same as last year's model but is a bit larger inside and out. Highlights on the new car include an available 2.4-liter engine and a navigation system.
- Smooth and controlled ride, excellent fuel economy with base 1.8-liter engine, attractive and ergonomic interior design, lengthy features list.
- Oddly weighted electric-assist steering, so-so gas mileage with 2.4-liter engine.

Wish I had my Camry back - 2009 Toyota Corolla
By RJD - January 3 - 12:06 amMy 07 Camry LE was wrecked and not the same after being repaired, so bought this Corolla. MPG is excellent, but the interior is cheap, with hard plastic everywhere. Center console has uncomfortable hard plastic to rest your elbow on. The car handles well in the snow with the traction control. Outside/wind noise is quite apparent at times. In spite of these complaints, its a very good little car and Id buy another one if I had to, but wish I had my Camry back. The Camry was luxurious compared to this Corolla. This car sits low, making it hard for me to get out of, even with the seat elevated as high as it will go. This car will run 70+ mph on the interstates without batting an eyelash.

By Sad College Student - December 28 - 12:53 pmI had noise in front suspension, dealer replaced both front struts and housing, Hubcap fell off for no reason, tire pressure sensor replaced, brakes recalled, glove box popped off for no reason, breaks still squeak, weird steering that when traveling over 55 MPH car will not stay put in a straight line

Will never buy a Toyota again - 2009 Toyota Corolla
By RG - December 8 - 2:46 amI have owned several Toyotas in the past and have never had as many problems as I did with this so called "well built and reliable car". I had problems with this car from day one. Electric power steering was replaced. Belt Tensioner problems, strange noise from Transmission. So many squeaks and rattles in the car, you would think it was built with Legos. I was just waiting for this car to fall apart and leave me sitting on the pavement. I can see why the NUMMI plant is closing. What happened to Toyota quality. I am glad I dumped this car for a 2010 Nissan Sentra 2.0S.

Corolla Review - 2009 Toyota Corolla
By Frank - November 30 - 10:56 pmI have 1000 miles on this 09 Corolla. The fuel mileage so far has been 33 mpg. The car feels very tight with no rattles or squeaks and it rides pretty good on the highway. The car is very quiet with little wind and road noise and the engine is quiet which gives this car a high quality feel. The brakes feel good and the trunk seems roomy. The paint is very nice and looks quality. The steering feels too touchy and it takes constant correction to hold a straight line at highway speeds. If I would have known about this steering flaw I might not have bought this model. Take a long test drive and decide for yourself before you buy.

Dont ingore the car cause its a corolla - 2009 Toyota Corolla
By Mike Roman - November 27 - 7:56 pmI was looking at getting a second hand luxury car but wasnt thrilled about the insurance costs, mileage to the gallon, and the lack of warranties. The older Corollas are not for me. Im 25 years old, had to make a smart purchase but still an eye candy, fun to drive car. The XRS 2009 is amazing in every aspect, and there arent that many out there, so yours will stand out more. Bottom line a Corolla hater (2008 and earlier) is now a Corolla lover. Test drove a dozen new cars, XRS wins by landslide!!

Big guy little car - 2009 Toyota Corolla
By Rick - November 19 - 2:26 amIm 63, 50 and fit into a 40 mpg car! This is an amazing little car. Great ride good power a little touchy on the steering. The overall feel is solid. I drive 13 hours at a stretch for days at a time that puts a lot of demands for comfort on a vehicle, the 09 Corolla passes with flying colors. And it passes the gas stations as well. I found the Corolla to be quieter than the Civic and Sentra with a better solid feel. After much research I also found that the factory check ups listed in your owners manual were much less with the Corolla than the Civic. What can I say, I LOVE this little car!!

Even the 25 y/os like it.... - 2009 Toyota Corolla
By Bryan Knight - October 14 - 4:00 pmI purchased the Corolla in February and put on about 3400 miles so far (currently July). The car is reliable, stylish, and gets great gas mileage (averaging 30 mpg in mostly city driving, 40 mpg on long trips). I highly recommend getting the vehicle stability control, it has saved my life already once.

Have I bought a lemon? - 2009 Toyota Corolla
By 2009 "Lemon" - October 10 - 9:13 pmWe purchased a 2009 Toyota Corolla LE May 31, 2008. At about 2000 miles the VSC Light came on flashing. Took it back to dealer and they could not find anything wrong. The light came back on and it started to spit and sputter and die for no reason around 3000 miles. Took it back to dealer and they replaced the Mass Air Flow Sensor and cleared the codes again. Was driving it again and slowed down to turn a corner and it died for no reason. It currently has 4500 miles on it and the dealer has had it for a week. They called and said they are ordering a new wiring harness which is supposed to fix the problem. Im now wondering what will be next.

Best car Ive bought in a long time - 2009 Toyota Corolla
By Tacoma Jim - September 23 - 2:26 pmIve owned just about every car made over the years. I needed a car that got great fuel economy and didnt look like an egg going down the road. The Corolla S looks great, runs great, and I average over 40 mpg on the freeway with my 70+ mile commute every day. The new 2009 interior is comfortable on the long drives, much better than the 2008. I like just about everything about the car and the price was more than fair for something that I know will last me over 200k miles with no problems.
