This Year's Model Updates:

A sporty new XRS model debuts boasting a 170-horsepower engine and a sport-tuned suspension. Additionally, all Corollas receive a restyled front fascia and rear taillights. The LE model now has Lexus-like Optitron instrumentation, along with a cloth-trimmed center console and sun visors. Side curtain airbags, stability control and a JBL audio system are all new options.

Pros:
  • Refined and roomy interior, excellent gas mileage and crash test scores, long list of safety features, spunky XRS model, illustrious reliability record.
Cons:
  • Awkward driver-seat position, bland personality, gets pricey when even basic features are desired, sedan body style only.

I have had the car for almost 5 months and have driven it in both urban and rural settings. Both performance and comfort of ride have been quite good. Mileage has been somewhat under the EPA estimate ( about 2 mpg) but is quite good. The primary accessories (heater, air conditioner, stereo) have all performed quite well. I have been quite pleased with the acceleration while cruising at 55-60 mpg on rural highways. This greatly facilitates passing slower vehicles without requiring inordinate clear straightaways. The car could be a little quieter when accelerating from a stop sign.

This is my second Corolla and I just love them. The newer one is a little less peppy than my 92 Corolla which I still have with 141,000 miles. I only notice the difference in the Azizona mountians and I believe it is because the 2005 is bigger and roomier than the 1992. The 2005 is a very comfortable car to ride in. I have bought 3 new cars and Toyota is the first one I have, that has not had any problems. The 1992 I bought used and ran it 3 years before changing spark plugs and then it really didnt need it. The key is to change oil and use Toyota parts. The 2005 is well built and I get anywhere from 32 to 35 MPG with the air conditioner running at all times. My 92 gets 30 MPG. Great Cars.

Purchased with 23700 mi.,at,cc,pl,pw for just under TMV price. Getting 30/38 city/hway mpg. Adequate power, quiet, like the visibility, head room, ground clearance, ease of access, ride. I am expecting excellent reliability.

Lack of personality seems out of context. It seems all who comment on my new Corolla, including my wife, like the small, compact body style, especially w/its sleek headlights and rear spoiler. Gas milage is awesome compared to my Toyota Tacoma Club Cab. The interior, although a dull grey color, is offset with the silver-grey gearshift. We love the dashboard, especially when it is lit up at night. Handling of the Corolla is super as it very responsive in acceleration & turning. There is ample leg room in the backseat. All-in-all, for the price, Id buy another Corolla over any American-priced vehicle. Ive been a Toyota owner since 1990 & have no plans change.

Overall I love the Corolla. Look at the plusses and minuses below, but you will not go wrong in purchasing this car. The only recommendation I have is to spring for the JBL Audio System.

The best small care I ever owned since 1963!

  • Best choice in class - 2005 Toyota Corolla

This is the best car in the class for performance compacts. Very good performance + great build + great resale value + good safety (with side airbags). Considered Nissan Sentra (reliability problems) and Honda Accord (price problems). Corolla S didnt have enough oomph for me, plus IMPOSSIBLE to find with ABS. XRS could use more oomph at low RPMs, but still plenty for day-to-day. This cars engine "boosts" at 7K RPM, but youll rarely have a chance to get up there. 30-32 MPG highway, youll downshift out of 6th to pass quickly though. Great handling comes with rougher ride. Youll get "jostled" in your seat going over rougher roads, but very stable in corners, especially on/off ramps.

  • Hard Driver - 2005 Toyota Corolla

Bought new. Commute 130 mile a day. Have 78K on it now. Mainly highway. I drive aggressively. Problems have been AC leak and currently a very small oil leak around one of the gaskets. Tires were replaced at about 55K. Still never had to replace my brakes. Im 56 and feel comfortable during long trips. There is road noise, but all small cars have that. It drives excellently in the snow. I was shocked at how well it drove through some tough snow mounds the plows left behind. Traction in the snow going up hill isnt the best based on past cars Ive owned. The anti-locks (optional safety package) work great. Would buy this car again.

I have had this car for about a year and a half and it gets excellent gas mileage, drives very smooth, is comfortable, and very reliable. I was also in a wreck about a month ago and the side of my car got hit hard but fortunately I did not get hurt because this car is very safe. When they fixed my car it looked brand new. It really is an overall outstanding car.

  • My First Toyota - 2005 Toyota Corolla

After owning 5 Hondas, I decided to try a Toyota. Ive been very pleased with the overall performance, quality, and simplicity of this vehicle. The vehicle fits me very well (510") and it is comfortable to drive for an extended period of time. I am a little disappointed with the gas mileage Im getting. Im averaging 32 MPG (28 city and 37 highway). Great trunk space. The interior materials are top notch for a vehicle in this price range. Note: The trunk lid doesnt close as well as it should even after being adjusted.
