This Year's Model Updates:

A sporty new XRS model debuts boasting a 170-horsepower engine and a sport-tuned suspension. Additionally, all Corollas receive a restyled front fascia and rear taillights. The LE model now has Lexus-like Optitron instrumentation, along with a cloth-trimmed center console and sun visors. Side curtain airbags, stability control and a JBL audio system are all new options.

Pros:
  • Refined and roomy interior, excellent gas mileage and crash test scores, long list of safety features, spunky XRS model, illustrious reliability record.
Cons:
  • Awkward driver-seat position, bland personality, gets pricey when even basic features are desired, sedan body style only.

  • Reliability combined with great economy - 2005 Toyota Corolla

I bought this car 4 years ago, now at 144000 miles - I have a long commute. The car is by far the best car I have owned, hands down. I have the 5-speed manual transmission, and get great handling and performance. I get anywhere between 40 and 42 mpg since I am mostly driving freeway. On my third set of tires, other than that, no defects or repairs needed - still on factory brakes and clutch. Change oil and rotate tires religiously. I did not buy any options with the car and find the LE basic model quite complete and comfortable.

This car has a comfortable ride and the steering is very smooth. I have taken friends on a couple day trips, and they agree the ride is comfortable. The interior is roomy, and the trunk space is good for a car this size. I am getting about 36mpg highway and 26mpg in town. The color Impulse Red makes this car appear larger and more upscale. Overall, this car is a great value for the money!

  • A Wonderful Car at a GREAT Price! - 2005 Toyota Corolla

Since I bought my car I have been very please and have driven in a few different types of weather, most recently today in some of the harshest rain I have driven in. The car performed well, but the tires seemed to have a bit of trouble gripping the road, and I found myself hydroplaning a few times. Other than that, the manual shifter seems to be quite sensitive and stalls more easily than expected, but that may be just because Im still getting used to this particular car. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase and would recommend this car to anyone!

Love the smart roomy interior. Great pickup and manueverability. Only problem was the dash light blinking on and off and CD player jumps tracks. Will take in to repair under warranty. But engine and drive great!

  • best in class - 2005 Toyota Corolla

though one could complain about things such as lack of power, wind/road noise etc. you have to keep things in perspective. this is an economy car, and as such i feel it offers more than any other car in this class. it has a smooth, quiet ride for this class, i am getting 38 mpg in a mix of city/highway driving(about a 40/60 mix), and the manual transmission shifts smoothly.

Just an overall great compact sedan. Of course driving it you would think it was compact. Quiet ride, good stability, and fun. With prices they way they are you are able to have a regular car that isnt a hybrid and still gives you great gas mileage to the gallon.

  • Gotta Love Toyotas!! - 2005 Toyota Corolla

I absolutly Love my 05 Corolla!!! I choose it over the Honda Civic. And I am very pleased that I did. I looked at an S and the LE. I ended up with the LE! I have the in dash 6 CD changer and the side airbags along with the antilock breaks. It is a perfect car for a college student. I know I have a reliable ride! I love how tall it sits. I dont feel like Im going to be run over by an SUV anymore. I am short so I have to sit closer to the pedals and my arms dont feel cramped in this car. Its so nice!

  • Great Car for the Price! - 2005 Toyota Corolla

The minuses: Car dogs considerably when A/C is on. The manual transmission is not very forgiving. I have driven manuals for over 20 years and I have killed the engine (in getting out of first gear) numerous times. The gear spacing is too tight overall (easy to confuse gears). Would like to see lighted pads for the CD/Radio, cant see which button one is hitting in night driving. Gas mileage has been good (33-35), but not as high as I had expected. My wife finds the steering wheel to be awkwardly placed and I find the padded rest arm on the driver door to be too small. Despite the above criticism, I am extremely pleased with the car, especially for its ride and quiet ride.
