Overview & Reviews
Well into its fourth decade of production, the compact Toyota Corolla is the best-selling car in automotive history, and for good reason. Small, inexpensive, fuel-efficient and as reliable as the day is long, the Corolla is the quintessential economy car. As long as you change the oil on time and don't hit a tree, any Corolla should provide dependable transportation well past the 100,000-mile mark. That's why so many shoppers keep buying Corollas year after year.
Since its 1968 introduction in the U.S., the Toyota Corolla has come in a variety of body styles, including a sedan, coupe, hatchback and wagon. More recently, however, it has only been available as a sedan. Today's Corolla has almost as much rear passenger space as a midsize sedan and its fuel economy is impressive. Although rivals boast sportier designs and more entertaining driving dynamics, a Corolla is nonetheless an excellent choice for smart consumers on a budget.

Reliability in Question - 2009 Toyota Corolla
By Dom - March 6 - 9:50 amMy wife is now driving her 2nd Corolla (06 LE) and both cars have proven very reliable. I switched over from my other brand and purchased a 09 for that specific reason. Right now I have my doubts. With only 5600 miles I have had 1) the radio unit replaced as the LCD panel display hung up with unreadable characters, and 2) the vehicle failed to start due to a faulty fuel pump. The car has met all my other expectations (great mileage) but any more issues like this will make me re-consider whether this model is the right one for me.

Corolla - 2001 Toyota Corolla
By Jynxie - March 5 - 6:43 amPerfect for first time buyers and those who want a car that will get them from point A to point B. One flaw, hopelessly boring. If you like your car to have some sort of personality (I know I do) this is not the car to buy.

Great car but have the right expectations - 2014 Toyota Corolla
By wvanepps - February 28 - 8:39 pmI needed a commuter car to drive almost 100 miles a day back and forth to work. I also own a 2014 Corvette Stingray and a 2013 BMW M3 Coupe and wanted to keep the miles off them. I have driven the Corolla about 1,500 miles and really like it. The rear leg room is great and I have been averaging 34 MPG. I really like the exterior styling of the car and the interior looks like it belongs in a much more expensive car. I opted for the S Plus as it adds a lot of features for very little money. This is a great commuter car but do not expect great performance or an exciting ride. If you want something that is comfortable, looks nice, drives nice and gets great MPG then this is the car for you.

42mpg with style and a big backseat - 2016 Toyota Corolla
By tomK - February 28 - 6:35 pmAfter 50,000 miles I still love mine. I got an S Plus with all options except heated seats. For the price paid (21.5k) its hard to fault this car. Cruising at 70mph will return 42mpg in a car with a huge backseat and a very comfortable and well-designed cockpit. The front seats are very comfortable and weve taken two 3,000+ mile road trips without complaint. The gauges, steering wheel and control set are tasteful and have a quality feel. I love downshifting with the flappy panels and overall really like the CVT transmission. Whats not to like? The doors have kind of a cheap feel, both in hard plastic trim and a cheap tin sound when you close the door. Also, immediate pull out power is a bit lacking with the 1.8 motor/CVT combo. Under hard acceleration, the car will often lag for a moment, and you in time get used to what it can do reliably and will change your driving style to suit. Thats it, but I accept both given the price and economy of the car. Weve had no unscheduled maintenance, other than a failed fog lamp that was quickly replaced on warranty by our excellent Toyota dealer. After 2 years I still love the style. No regrets. Recommended without hesitation.

Phils 2003 Corolla - 2003 Toyota Corolla
By Philip in CA - February 23 - 10:00 amI now have 17,600 miles on the car (8 months). Fuel mileage took a spike up after 12,000 accumulated. If I keep the speed between 60-70 mph, I can get 41 mpg fairly often. The automatic transmission has a "grade logic" feature that senses when you have crested a hill and are gaining speed down the other side with the throttle closed. The transmission will downshift to 3rd to assist braking when certain conditions have been met. Passing performance is quite good... so long as you have the engine above 3,500 rpm.

Where Luxury Meets Fuel Economy - 2009 Toyota Corolla
By Ignacio - February 17 - 4:40 pmExcellent fuel economy. I am averaging 30 to 32 MPG in city driving on the streets of South Florida. The 1.8L engine is just right for the car and the interior details are top of the line. Overall the car has been an excellent choice!

Love what you do for me! - 1997 Toyota Corolla
By HiMilesDriver - February 17 - 10:06 amI bought my 1997 Toyota Corolla from a rental car company. It is a 4-door automatic. It came with 24k miles and Ive put another 70k on it since then. I have had NO unexpected mechanical problems with it (other than the time my husband ran down the battery by leaving the keys in it all night!)I would still feel comfortable driving it on a trip. I would recommend this car to anyone, especially for a student going to college who will be driving back and forth a lot.

Better than expected - 2007 Toyota Corolla
By Rick Evans - February 16 - 5:33 pmIm pleasantly surprised at the excellent performance, handling and relative quietness of the Corolla. I came to this car after running a 1990 Ford Probe 5 speed GL into the ground. The Probe would easily beat the Corolla off the line but highway performance and handing on curvy roads are the same. Corolla stick shifting is smoother. Tire noise is quieter than Probe but still noticeable. Engine is quieter and smoother. Fuel economy is currently running 37 mpg highway and suburban driving. Over the first winter 34 mpg was typical. I only hope Corolla reliability lives up to the reputation.

Air bags add security - 2007 Toyota Corolla
By R. Hantsbarger - February 15 - 1:13 amI am a parent of two teenage daughters and I feel that small cars should be safe also. The car drives well and the steering is crisp enough to add security on mountain roads. The ride is fair on confort and leg room is just enough for 5-10" people. The Toyota Corolla is a great little car, but the base model is hard to find with air bags. We finally found one with the side curtain and side seat air bags without the top end LE accessories. Consumer Reports recommended buying the Toyota Corolla, but only with the air bag option. It is not something I hope to test, but it is reassurring to know they will save a life when needed. The brakes stop the car with enough safety as well.
