Model Overview:

Well into its fourth decade of production, the compact Toyota Corolla is the best-selling car in automotive history, and for good reason. Small, inexpensive, fuel-efficient and as reliable as the day is long, the Corolla is the quintessential economy car. As long as you change the oil on time and don't hit a tree, any Corolla should provide dependable transportation well past the 100,000-mile mark. That's why so many shoppers keep buying Corollas year after year.

Since its 1968 introduction in the U.S., the Toyota Corolla has come in a variety of body styles, including a sedan, coupe, hatchback and wagon. More recently, however, it has only been available as a sedan. Today's Corolla has almost as much rear passenger space as a midsize sedan and its fuel economy is impressive. Although rivals boast sportier designs and more entertaining driving dynamics, a Corolla is nonetheless an excellent choice for smart consumers on a budget.

I think it is the most fuel efficient, reliable and hassle free compact car I could own for a competent price that too. I am glad I decided to buy it.

  • Nice little car. - 2003 Toyota Corolla

I totalled my precious 1997 Geo Prizm Lsi in April and bought the 2003 Corolla LE shortly thereafter. I have been happy with the car in the two months Ive owned it. I have to agree with most of the comments in previous reviews. The comments made about it in the wind are all valid, it does seem to be affected a lot by a strong gust. However, so do a lot of other cars out there. A bigger engine option would be nice without having to go to the ugly Matrix. So far Ive gotten the sticker gas mileage or better, which is nice. Overall, I am very satisfied with the car. If you want a small car that is inexpensive but doesnt feel cheap, try Corolla.

Car feels a lot sportier than I expected it to -- acceleration is surprisingly peppy, handling is sure, and the tight, short-throw shifter is a joy to work with. Good fuel economy too -- 33 mpg in town, 37 on the interstate (300 miles at 70+ mph) Rear end is a bit chubby, but the front end looks nice -- I didnt buy a Toyota for its looks anyway.

After hours of painful research I narrowed my choices down to the Civic and Corolla. I first test drove the Honda and was convinced that I was going to buy it. I then went to the Toyota dealership to drive the Corolla just to please my wife. The dealer only had the LE with the sunroof and 6 CD option, which bumped up the price more than what I was willing to pay. I took it out on the road and was equally impressed with this vehicle as I was with the Civic. It basically had the same pickup and handling as the Civic. Once back at the dealership the salesman worked out the numbers and we came up with a figure $400 lower than the Civic. Plus I got the options that the Civic didnt have!

  • Worst car I ever drove - 2009 Toyota Corolla

Purchased the car a month ago and will be getting rid of it just as fast.  The car drifts on the highway especially in the wind in speeds of 50 and over.  You cant take your hands off the steering wheel even to turn on the radio. When driving behind a truck, same thing.  Cant believe Toyota could let this thing on the road.  Seats are very uncomfortable. Will never buy another Corolla again.

Found the Drivers seat is a bit loose on its track. It shifts back on acceleration. There is a rattling noise in the trunk when Corolla rolls over a deep pothole. Is it a loose spare tire equipment? The outside air vent blow warm air into cabin when the temperature thermostat is set to its coldest position and the outside air is so much cooler. Default CD Stereo system does not play MP3 audio files. Flimsy release latches for trunk and fuel filling lid on drivers side floor.

  • Feel Safe With the Toyota Name - 2006 Toyota Corolla

I really enjoy the nice comfortable ride, and low engine noise. The radio isnt all that bad either for this model. The only thing I would change is the annoying seat belt warning, and add the power package to all the cars no matter what model. Ill definitely be taking it in to get power door locks put in this week. Other than that, its a great little car so far, with no other complaints.

  • Great car - 2005 Toyota Corolla

I purchased the car new two years ago and have put 55,000 miles on it. The car is equipped with the 6 disc CD player and sunroof. Mechanically, the car is flawless. It has not been in the shop once, no rattles, adjustments or repairs. Longest road trip was 8 hrs - this is not a luxury sedan but not too bad (Im 6). I drive in Texas and the air cond. keeps up fine in 100+ degree summer days. I commute about 100 hwy miles a day roundtrip and get 33-34 mpg. Maxed at 36 mpg on the 8 hr roadtrip (upper 90s temp and air on the whole way). The only thing I would change is adding a telescoping steering wheel, the driving position is awkward.

  • Wears out quick - 2004 Toyota Corolla

Bought car with 10k on it. 1st week plastic piece inside broke didnt even touch it. Car was very reliable, not much maintenance, but was getting very, very used feeling at about 65k, then at 74k transmission went! This was on a manual. Never had a tranny go in my life. Other cars have been driven to 150k plus never had to replace tranny. Oh well disappointed in Toyota. Gas mileage was good though. Also Windows rattled a little from 20k on.

  • Good Car so far at only1050 miles total. - 2009 Toyota Corolla

Since our 99 Civic was totaled while stopped at a red light, I decided to look around at other brands of cars: After examining everything on the market, I bought a new 09 Corolla LE. Why? Toyotas reputation for reliability is seldom matched, and competing brands werent outstanding. Its a solid feeling car that performs as well or better than almost any other economy vehicle. The mileage is superb: with about a half-and-half mix of heavy town traffic and mountain driving, it has averaged 35.8 MPG! Much better than advertised. I dont shove my foot through the gas pedal, but it keeps up with traffic just fine. The "Hot Car" magazines may pan it, but average drivers will be happy.
