Model Overview:

Well into its fourth decade of production, the compact Toyota Corolla is the best-selling car in automotive history, and for good reason. Small, inexpensive, fuel-efficient and as reliable as the day is long, the Corolla is the quintessential economy car. As long as you change the oil on time and don't hit a tree, any Corolla should provide dependable transportation well past the 100,000-mile mark. That's why so many shoppers keep buying Corollas year after year.

Since its 1968 introduction in the U.S., the Toyota Corolla has come in a variety of body styles, including a sedan, coupe, hatchback and wagon. More recently, however, it has only been available as a sedan. Today's Corolla has almost as much rear passenger space as a midsize sedan and its fuel economy is impressive. Although rivals boast sportier designs and more entertaining driving dynamics, a Corolla is nonetheless an excellent choice for smart consumers on a budget.

  • Squishy ride and horrible brakes - 2012 Toyota Corolla
    By -

Although my gut told me not to buy a Toyota especially after the sticky gas pedal/brake fail issue with them I went for the Corolla because it fit my budget. Last weekend I drive it to Ohio from DC (a one way trip of 450 miles). Things started to get bad as soon as I got outside of the city. The handling of the car is foamy at best. I believe in comfort but when it comes at the expense of not having confidence that the car will make the turn at highway speed, it is not pretty. And then there were the brakes. I decended a few hills and I smelt something burning. I pulled over to check but nothing obvious. A little later the brake pedal needed to be pressed very hard to slow down.

  • LOVED MY 2003 COROLLA BUT DISAPPOINTED NOW - 2011 Toyota Corolla
    By -

I bought my 2011 new out of state. It is larger than previous models. There is a lot of road noise - very bumpy. It does not seem as solidly built as the two previous models that Ive owned. I did have the RPM issue when I first got the car but the dealership made an adjustment and rectified the situation. Ive had continual problems with the brakes squealing at low speeds when braking gently in stop and go traffic. Ive been told time after time that everything is fine. Also, when the AC is on there is sometimes this very unpleasant grinding noise that I hear under the car. Also, had that checked out and again was told nothing wrong. I loved my 2003. I owned it for almost ten years. I never had one problem with it. It was the perfect size for me as well. I cannot understand why Toyota made the Corolla larger. I dont think I will own the 2011 for 10 years. On a positive note, the car is very nice looking. The interior is attractive and it starts right up even on the coldest days and seems to do well in the little snow driving that I do. As far as gas mileage goes, I have no issue with that.

After taking care of my neighbors 1995 Corolla for 14 years I simply had to buy one. This car is everything that the 95 is and more since Toyota listens. It has more power, an adjustable driver seat, interior and truck lighting.

  • NOT THAT GREAT - 2003 Toyota Corolla
    By -

there is hype about new corolla, it is on higher end for economy car buying. compare to honda civil LX 02 automatic, corolla provieds less useful features. i m most disappointed that it doesnt come with cruise control std. and on top i am paying almost 1000 more new corolla. I just dont get it.

  • Thinkin this was the best for fuel - 2009 Toyota Corolla
    By -

Driven the car for 7.5 months (50,000 KM-now)and I am extremely disappointed as its not fuel efficient at all! All I have been told is...wait for engine break-in. Only made 26 mi/gal (doing 95% highway driving) in the Winter, now up to 32 mi/gal in Spring. Ive complained each month about the fuel economy when taking the car in for reg. oil changes. The other items I have had continual problems with are: air leakage by your head-along windows, squealing fan belt, flat tires that will not hold patches and plugs, these are constant and ongoing. I built cars on the internet comparing/researching prior to buying...due to the miles I make. My goals were gas savings,comfort,value.. Nothing was met

  • The best economy car out there - 2003 Toyota Corolla
    By -

I bought it a few months after it came out. It has power! The interior is very roomy for an economy car. Im 59 and I have plenty of room. On cold sunny days I go for rides because I love this car so much and it takes forever to go through a tank of gas. The LE model is gorgeous with wood interior and plush feeling seats. I adore this car and am truly grateful it updated this car. It doesnt drive, look, or feel like an economy car except for my insurance rates, my car payments, and my gas usage!

  • An excellent little car - 2005 Toyota Corolla
    By -

Pro: 38-42MPG, peppy, looks like a million bucks, comfortable ride, Toyota reliablity, lots of room (esp trunk). Con: really poor stock tires, squeaks and rattles, no variable wipers, no telescoping steering wheel, butter-soft paint and windshield. I love this car. Its economical, has a strong engine, and is very stylish (IMO). Since everyone gushes over new cars, Ill say that the OEM tires are complete JUNK, the paint is so soft you need 3M protector on within the first 50 miles, the windsheild looks sandblasted after 8000 miles, and I have various small squeaks and rattles here and there. That said, those problems are not nearly enough for me to not love this car.

  • Best Little Wagon - 1996 Toyota Corolla
    By -

had this reliable and peppy wagon for ten years; no major defects or problems; easy to park; good visibility; good loading capacity; good leg room in back; upholstery wears well; std stereo mediocre; gas mileage appx 26-28 city; 28-30 freeway; would have bought another but dont make anymore; drivers seat and headrest are comfortable for my neck and frame (56").
