Model Overview:

Well into its fourth decade of production, the compact Toyota Corolla is the best-selling car in automotive history, and for good reason. Small, inexpensive, fuel-efficient and as reliable as the day is long, the Corolla is the quintessential economy car. As long as you change the oil on time and don't hit a tree, any Corolla should provide dependable transportation well past the 100,000-mile mark. That's why so many shoppers keep buying Corollas year after year.

Since its 1968 introduction in the U.S., the Toyota Corolla has come in a variety of body styles, including a sedan, coupe, hatchback and wagon. More recently, however, it has only been available as a sedan. Today's Corolla has almost as much rear passenger space as a midsize sedan and its fuel economy is impressive. Although rivals boast sportier designs and more entertaining driving dynamics, a Corolla is nonetheless an excellent choice for smart consumers on a budget.

  • Works For Me - 2009 Toyota Corolla

I rented at Portland OR and drove the twisty steep hills of the scenic coastal route south to CA and then to Medford OR. I told my wife over and over how nice it handled (owned 2 MGs and presently a 09 Malibu). I didnt thrash the engine but downshifted the automatic on steep hills and drove it briskly in the turns. I had lots of starts and stops and some city and averaged 32+ MPG. No steering wander and well controlled on bumps and swells. A nice car. Cant believe the bad reviews by Edmunds and other experts and public alike?

Traded in a 1997.5 Infiniti J30 on this car, and so Im dealing with culture shock. Nonetheless, so far, Ive been impressed with the car. The quality of materials is excellent overall, and the car has a luxury-car feel even though its a compact, high-mpg commuter car. Handling is a little mushy in turns, but that might be related to the Goodyear Integrity tires, not the suspension. Road and wind noise are surprisingly low, and engine noise while cruising is also generally low. Ive averaged about 30 mpg in mixed driving. Trunk space is excellent for a car of this size, and interior comfort is high. Lack of standard ABS and side air bags is disappointing, given the competition.

  • Toyota - beware of their engine problem - 2000 Toyota Corolla
    By -

I used to have great faith on Toyota until I realized my 42 K mile 5 year old toyota has an engine problem that is truly a manufacture defect! I bought it when it was 17 K miles. In May 05, I noticed oil light on and checked there was NO oil left in my engine at all. Immediately I took it to a very good car repair place and changed oil and they did not detect any leak. The assumption then was the previous oil change was not done properly; then 6 weeks later (yesterday) the oil light came back on and same issue - NO OIL in the car. I am not very pleased with the engine problem but it seems to me Toyota wont do anything about it which is unacceptable.

  • Reliable AND Fun - 2000 Toyota Corolla

With 39K on the odometer, this car is excellent and everything works. Drives like new and the 4-Speed Auto is smooth. The 1.8 VVT-i is peppy and I just by a hair beat a Sunfire GT (2.4?) from a stoplight. Cruise control and AUTO down drivers window are handy features. I do drive fast at times and still get 37MPG. The looks are also nice. I get compliments.

  • What a car! - 2004 Toyota Corolla

Ive only owned Toyotas and let me tell you that this is the best one yet. Reasonable pick up for the 4 cylinder engine, great looking interior (Leather not an option but I put leather in mine and it looks like a luxury car). Ground effects were a nice option as well as all the safety features (ABS, Side Air bags). Car feels solid, drives firm and holds its turns rather well. Dont miss out on this car, you will be very disappointed if you buy something without test driving this beauty.

  • Now has Steering Fixed - 2010 Toyota Corolla
    By -

I HAD the steering problem many complain about. There is a TSB where they fix it by swapping out the steering computer and now the car is GREAT. Before that I thought I had to get rid of it. Now I LOVE the car and have about 17,000 miles on it.
