This Year's Model Updates:

The 2000 Toyota Camry sedan receives minor updates. The exterior benefits from new front and rear styling. Camry LE models get 15-inch tires with new wheel covers while the XLE gets standard 16-inch tires. Four-cylinder models make three more horsepower than last year. Interior upgrades include an available JBL premium audio system, automatic climate control, larger buttons on the audio faceplate, imitation wood trim on XLE models, optional leather seats with driver-side power on LE models and new LE model seat fabric. The hood is now supported with struts and dampers.

Pros:
  • Toyota reliability, updated looks, optional V6 power.
Cons:
  • Luxury options quickly jack up price, uncomfortable seats.

  • Things fall off - 2000 Toyota Camry

Bought used in 2002 with 30,000 miles. As for reliability couldnt be better. At 100,000 miles replaced belts, hoses, & water pump. Thats it!! but the interior seems cheaply made. At 135,000 miles there is a leak that we cant find and back window has come off track Cover for fuse box on side keeps coming off and carpet is coming from under the door. Front seat broke. But at 32 mpg Ill keep it til the doors fall off. Fairly good on brakes and tires. My daughter will get in when she gets her license. May buy something a little more exciting then.

One good Car thats all I can say. We bought the car certified in April of 2003. For 3 years old we got it for just under 13,000, and 36,000 miles. Not one problem after a year and a half. The car has the reliabilty part down to par, but now we have to get some excitment. The V6 was probably the fastest in its class for 2000. The suspension is a little bouncy, and the interior is a little ugly compared to the Celica. Toyota could have a better car then the passat all around. But deffinitly would buy another one. Best car I ever bought when it comes to down to the money. Awsome sound system and its not the JBL version.

  • Great Make - 2000 Toyota Camry

Bought mine brand new in year 2000 and has about 128000 miles and runs as great as in 1st year. Ride is very smooth, does not make noise. In the initial I could not wait to drive it. Still loving every minute driving it.

  • few problems - 2000 Toyota Camry

I havent had a lot of problems, engine check light started coming on. Had sensor replaced, O2 and then another, cost around 1000 for both. Then battery wouldnt start. Then alternator. Except for when the battery went, its always started. Had some road noise with the pirelli tires that were on it. Changed to some goodyear comfortred and now its real quiet. I like the gas mileage and it is fun to drive. When I bought it, gas was 1.85 a gallon here, remember. Then Katrina hit and gas went up to 3.00. I was planing on more trips with this then gas got too expensive. Still, getting around isnt bad.

I have owned three Camrys in the past and have found most to be great cars. The 2000 Camry has been a disappointment because it started to have different maintenance issue. It started with rear-end noises that were hard to diagnose. It turned out to be a rear barring. Then I had the the shocks replaced front and back which started several noises first rear which turned-out to be bad shocks. Then the front noises started which still are not resolved. Many parts may be the problem say the mechanics. The parts are expensive of course

  • Takes a lickin and keeps on tickin - 2000 Toyota Camry

This car has been with me almost six years and its been a good run. This was my college car so it probably got quite a bit more abuse than most, especially in the Nevada desert with 115+ degree days. I love the reliability and with regular maintenance still runs like new at 140k. Its at the age where more problems pop up (bad cam/crank seals, timing belt, transmission, pwr window regulator, brakes brakes brakes) but I think any car would do the same. fuel econ worsens with the age of the car too. They dont make camrys like this anymore or else Id buy a 2010 - shame. My next purchase will be a 10 Ford Fusion; hopefully it will be as good to me as my camry.

  • Transmision - 2000 Toyota Camry

I purchased this car used in 2004 because of its reputation. Its been very reliable, only wearable parts needed to be replaced. Although when I first got it, I was spending a small fortune trying to keep the check engine off, just learned to live with it (they really need to fix their sensors). For 5 years it has been a good daily commuter, until last week when the transmission went out, which will cost $3000 to replace. Its a lot of money for a car with 135K. I was planing on driving this car for at least another 50K, most cars now a days will run at least 150K.

  • A reliable car - 2000 Toyota Camry

ive had this 2000 Camry LE 4 cyl, for about 19 months. So far, it has served me faithfully without any problems (22,000 mi). It is a very easy car to drive and live with, but can get boring sometimes due to lack of character. I drove it to Florida from New York, and back, and it performed exceptionally well. However, the car does feel underpowered at times (135 HP), especially during passing on the highway. Note: this is not the car for someone who likes to drive hard.

  • Good car w/ problems than expected - 2000 Toyota Camry

A quiet & comfortable car, but with some unexpected problems. The automatic transmission internally self-destructed at 19K. Toyotas policy is to replace w/rebuilt, which seems to be a cost- cutting measure. Dealer initially missed this defect, smugly disregarding my requests to check transmission. This dangerous problem was caught by Oil Service people. Poor service at the dealership meant I had to contact zone distributorship CEO for appropriate oversight of dealer. At 27K, the drivers bottom seat bracket busted. The replacement job at the dealers was second class. How dealership handled problems/defects during warranty period left much to be desired.

  • Good value - 2000 Toyota Camry

I bought this 2000 LE to replace my 1988 LE. Its a great car, but I was surprised at how somethings were decontented. No maplights, seat has less adjustments and the bottom cushion isnt as comfy as the 1988. But for a 4-cyl with 136 HP, I was pleasantly surprised with the performance (the motor is torquey). Original tires (Generals) get loud after they wear. Very easy to drive, very good value.
