This Year's Model Updates:

The 2000 Toyota Camry sedan receives minor updates. The exterior benefits from new front and rear styling. Camry LE models get 15-inch tires with new wheel covers while the XLE gets standard 16-inch tires. Four-cylinder models make three more horsepower than last year. Interior upgrades include an available JBL premium audio system, automatic climate control, larger buttons on the audio faceplate, imitation wood trim on XLE models, optional leather seats with driver-side power on LE models and new LE model seat fabric. The hood is now supported with struts and dampers.

Pros:
  • Toyota reliability, updated looks, optional V6 power.
Cons:
  • Luxury options quickly jack up price, uncomfortable seats.

We bought this car to replace our 1997 Camry LE. While some interior finishing seemd to be inferior to the LE, the XLE overall is an excellent car - comfortable, reliable, and fun to drive. Recently we noticed some throbbing of the brake pedal and it appears that the rotors are warped and worn to the point of requiring replacement; brake pads and tires are worn out and require replacement at 62,000 km (38,000 miles). At least, that is what the dealer tells me; seems a bit soon to me. Windshield replacement is cheap.

  • 2000 vs 2002 - 2000 Toyota Camry

We have two Camrys. The best by far is the 2000 4 Cyl. Its road manors are much better. This car has 70000 miles on it and handles better than the 2002 with 52000 miles and the 2002 is a 6 Cyl. Never had a problem with the 2000 but had to align the front end of the 2002 twice.

I bought this 2000 Camry XLE as a certified used car from Toyota with about 25k on it. I had just been diagnosed with prostate cancer and i wanted to buy my wife a reliable car to drive if I wasnt around. That was over 15 years ago. Im still around and so is the Camry. The only parts I have replaced (other than routine maintenance items) are the rear struts. They went bad at about 230k miles. The car now has 250k miles and runs, drives, and looks as well as it ever did. I dont know how far it will go, but I think now it could well outlast me.

  • Best older gen Camry - 2000 Toyota Camry

Camrys really dont get better than this in many ways. The next year was the remodel with engine and safety improvements. But after 2000 Camrys became small Buicks with Toyota Quality. These Camrys feel strangely like say a older Rover(English) sedan. And thats a good thing. This Camry is ALL about legendary reliability. My Camry took care of me like my Mom. I cant say more!! I drive a Acura TL now and when I get in the Camry I still love it. How do Yotas roll 350K?? Because ever nut, bolt, and most of the vehicle you dont see is done Toyota Right.

  • Reliable, and fun! - 2000 Toyota Camry

I bought my camry new in 1999. It has been the most reliable car I have owned. It replaced my 1996 Lexus ES, and had better options, and was more comfortable. Ive changed the oil every 3,000 miles, which is just about every month for me, Im a. The 2.2i4 has almost as much power as my Lexus had! Ive been in 2 accidents, only damage was to the front corner, and was cheap to fix. Replaced the timing belt, both ignition coils, and 2 oxygen sensors, and it still runs like new! 278,823 miles and counting! I plan on buying a new camry this week, deffinately keeping this one for my sons first car!

  • Toyota Certified Means Nothing - 2000 Toyota Camry

I recently purchased a Toyota Certified 2000 Camry. $300 worth of car trouble later, I am afraid to drive it anywhere. I cant figure out what they certifiy. I couldnt have been my car. Though the ride in more smooth then a corolla, seating in the back is still terrible.

  • Best car ever - 2000 Toyota Camry

Purchased this car in 2004 with 48,000 miles. Currently has 222,668. Still on original brakes. Absolutely no repairs during ownership...has survived two deer crashes. Will drive til the bolts fall out. Certainly will replace with another Camry. Interior and exterior still look like new. Check engine light comes on when refill with gas. Mechanic turns it off each time I get oil changed. Terrific car!!

By far the best highway driving car Ive been in. Very good build quality -- no squeaks or rattles. Car feels as tight with 45,000 miles as it did when new. Smooth, smooth, smooth.

  • Great Car! - 2000 Toyota Camry
    By -

I bought my 2000 Camry new and it now has 110,000 miles and is still driving great! I do all the routine maintenance on it, regular oil changes, had the timing belt changed before it went out... as precaution. This particular Camry must have been well built. The only trouble I had was the battery went dead and I had to replace it. Im looking for a new vehicle but cant hardly bring myself to buy one! I wont get rid of my Camry no matter if I buy a new car!

  • WOW!! What a car ! - 2000 Toyota Camry
    By -

Bought our 2000 Camry in late 06 on the Toyota name alone. This car is very fun to drive and my wife and I know, with proper maintenace, that this car has another 150,000 miles to go with no problem. We both have had Toyotas in the past and they have not disappointed. Our 2000 Camry has the 4 cyl. engine, wouldve liked the 6 but none were available at the time we needed the car. Yet to my surprise, the 4 cyl. is more than I thought.... VERY strong !! Great car and would do it all over again today if we had to. Enjoy the ride.
