This Year's Model Updates:

Entering its second generation, the 2000 Avalon is roomier, more powerful and more technically advanced. The Kentucky-built Avalon features new styling inside and out, enhanced safety features, increased engine performance, and more comfort and convenience than its predecessor.

Pros:
  • Lexus-like quality, smooth V6 engine, huge rear seat.
Cons:
  • High price tag, new styling might not go far enough to avoid blandness.

  • Best Vehicle I Have Ever Owned - 2000 Toyota Avalon

I used Edmunds.com for pricing info and got a GREAT deal. I do a LOT of highway driving and this car is perfect. There is pick up when I need to pass or go up a mountain and Ive never been in a smoother riding vehicle and I have owned Lincolns, Buicks and Caddys. Everyone who rides in it compliments the interior styling then they feel the ride and love it as much as I do. It still turns heads too. Finding a used one is next to impossible so I guess most of the owners just dont want to give them up. I have 77,000 miles on it and I have never had any problems. I take excellent care of it and it looks brand new.

After reading the reviews, I had to comment on those who gave less than average, i.e. especially the 4.6 rating. Where did you buy this one? It must have been from a salvage yard because you couldnt have brought it from a reliable and well respected Toyota dealership. I shopped for weeks before deciding on this car. Regarding the the roominess, reliablity, and performance this car gives you more than you can imagine. When we have family and friends ride with us they are totally shocked by the performance, style, and ride of this vehicle.

  • Not a bad car - 2000 Toyota Avalon

Roomy and comfortable. Fast and maneuverable. Some say its "old peoples car" but its fast, accelerates well. Interior and controls are well laid out.

  • 15 years and counting! - 2000 Toyota Avalon

I never thought I would ever keep a car this long but my Avalon still checks almost every box. It continues to be the roomy, quiet and comfortable vehicle that I purchased new in 2000. Had a few (not major) maintenance issues in the eighth and tenth year. Since then reliability has been remarkable. And its exterior remains relatively bright and clean even though my old house has no garage or carport. I do wash it weekly and regularly change the oil. My two complaints are that the MPG has declined to 18 MPG in city driving. 24 MPG highway. And although the air conditioning has always worked great, it makes a short whistling sound every 15-20 minutes. Its annoying. This has gone on for over five years and Toyota cannot seem to figure out what to do to correct it.

  • Quality, value, comfort - 2000 Toyota Avalon

No problems of any kind. 60,000 miles on REGULAR gas. 30 mpg on 67mph cruise control. Cruise control is exact, it never varies, uphill or down. Big people love the back seat. We bought it for my wifes back: it was the cheapest quality (Japanese branded) car with power passenger seat. What a bargain!

  • What A Diamond - 2000 Toyota Avalon
    By -

I work for a Toyota dealership and bought a 1-Owner 2000 Toyota Avalon XLS with 85,000 miles and it has been a pure diamond. I just had the windows tinted and the car doesnt have a scratch on it and has all the service records as well. Im very pleased with this one!

  • engine sludge - 2000 Toyota Avalon

Be very careful when buying a Toyota V6 because of engine sludge problem. Other than arguing with Toyota to fix the problem, the Avalon is treating me nicely.

  • pearly white - 2000 Toyota Avalon
    By -

With one more year left driving my diamond pearl white Avalon Im begining to consider my options for a replacement car. The only option...will be GPS navigation and this is available in current Avalon models. FYI...I must be the only owner with factory mud guards (color matched). I think they are worth the money. So far I consider my car a very good everyday vehicle for a salesman.
