This Year's Model Updates:

Entering its second generation, the 2000 Avalon is roomier, more powerful and more technically advanced. The Kentucky-built Avalon features new styling inside and out, enhanced safety features, increased engine performance, and more comfort and convenience than its predecessor.

Pros:
  • Lexus-like quality, smooth V6 engine, huge rear seat.
Cons:
  • High price tag, new styling might not go far enough to avoid blandness.

  • Vehicle performance and comfort - 2000 Toyota Avalon

Since I purchased this vehicle back in Nov 99, I have never had a serious problem with the vehicle. I service it according to the manufacturers book, not the dealers. Vehicle runs smooth and quiet. Seat comfort is great. Have a small back problem and my previous vehicles always gave me a problem; however, the Avalon, no problem. On the exterior design I gave it a 7 because I do not like the exhaust system hanging low on the vehicle. I notice this on a lot of Toyotas. Other than that, I love the vehicle.

I didnt like its looks at first, but I wanted a safe car for my wife. I have been very surprised with the quality of this car and it rides and handles well. Ive driven trucks and SUVs my whole life so this is a small car to me but its very comfortable.

Sun shining from above and behind hits instrument cluster glass, reflects up on windshield and back into drivers eyes. Second problem is that you cannot shut the center air vents without turning off all four vents. If not shut off cold air chills the drivers right arm or if directed up, chills his bald head. . I . Also cant read the info panel unless tthe sun shine right on it. Dangerous as I must take my eyes off teh road to read the symbols.

I finally got tired of having to take my Audi into the dealership for a fix every 3 months, and went for the Avalon. Two and one half years later, I have to remind myself to get the oil changed on time. What a difference. If you want total comfort, and a scerene ride, you just cant beat this machine.

  • First 50,000 miles - Problem Free! - 2000 Toyota Avalon

I purchased this car new in 2000 and was looking for a roomy, dependable mini-van alternative. Recently reaching the 50K mark I can honestly say that the car has been very enjoyable to own and absolutely trouble free. It has only been to the dealer one time for its 25,000 mile check-up which was uneventful. On long fully loaded trips I have averaged 28 mpg and has impressive passing power at highway speeds. The interior has held up better than expected, leather seats still look brand new. Climate control works great at any temperature and the “Dual Mode” option does a good job regulating different temperatures between the passenger and drivers seats.

This car is comfortable for driver and passenger. Driving position is adjustable to suit a short female or a tall male. It handles well.

Everyone is impressed with the interior of the car- it is very roomy and sleek and tall men fit in the front and/ or the back comfortably! Pretty car- with a nice quiet engine- but fast and fun to drive. Good safety features. Luxury car at an affordable price!

  • suspension - 2000 Toyota Avalon

I have had this car for almost three months and have had problems with the suspension. So long as I am driving on smooth pavement, it is wonderful. On bumpy roads I feel like Im rocking and rolling. The main complaint is that they say it is a five passenger car so long as the passengers dont weigh more than a pound. With Passengers in the back seat the car bottoms out, scraping the road when going over any bumps. Sadle enough,Toyota says this is "normal". I didnt know it was normal to drag the road in such an expensive car. Doing my research, Ive come to realize that the Avalon has this problem and Toyota refuses to address it.They have compromised on the suspension.

  • Great Car - 2000 Toyota Avalon

This car has been in my family for almost 8 years now and is still going strong. It rides and drives wonderfully, and the only problem weve had with it was with the automatic choke a couple years ago; we took it to our local Toyota dealer and had it fixed. The mileage is pretty good (about 23/city and 28/highway) for a car of its age. It has withstood rough roads and has over 170,000 miles on it (taken one trip to Disney World (16-ish hours total) and one trip to Savannah, GA (18-ish hours total) and was driven several miles to work and back most of the time with no problems). All in all, this car is a downright champion.
