Overview & Reviews
Subaru commemorates 35 years of selling cars in the U.S. by offering a 35th anniversary special edition of the Outback H6-3.0 wagon, though this amounts to little more than a new alloy wheel design and a fender-mounted badge. Red Burl interior trim is new for the Outback this year, and six-cylinder models get restyled 16-inch wheels. L.L. Bean and Limited models get a new brown leather covering on the shifter handle, brake handle and steering wheel.
- Standard all-wheel drive, comfortable ride on pavement, capable performance on dirt, well-appointed interior.
- Not as capable as an SUV in terms of pure off-road capability or interior volume, four-cylinder models lack power, upscale models are expensive.

35 th Special Ed - 2004 Subaru Outback
By LLBen - December 31 - 2:00 amSo far so good, we also have a 3 year old Forester that has been A++. I wish the Outback was just a little larger inside.

My Favorite So Far - 2004 Subaru Outback
By WendyB - September 1 - 4:13 amAfter 2 Foresters (that I really liked), I upgraded to the V6 Outback Sedan. Its really fun to drive, is very comfortable, and looks good too. The pick up is a little sluggish, but a world of difference better than the Foresters were.

Ill buy another - 2004 Subaru Outback
By Steve - May 26 - 3:00 amMy first Outback will not be my last. We love it. Well built, good performance, great styling, and excellent integrity of body. I do not like the padding in the seats; too thin with not enough support. I am 6 tall and 155 pounds so that is not an issue. Also, we have had the fuel door freeze shut numerous times. That being said, I can find no other things that I do not like. We have the 4 liter H6 and it is very responsive. Thus far, it has been fault free and if it continues, as I think it should, we will have the car we have been looking for. Subaru has done it for us.

Great Car! - 2004 Subaru Outback
By Alexandra Gomez - April 9 - 10:00 amI live in Southern Manitoba, where the winters are very cold. I have used my car for every day driving and never felt afraid of the weather or road conditions. I also like the fact that is a wagon, but it doesnt look like an old mamas wagon at all. I recommend this car to my friends all the time. When the time comes to get a new vehicle, Im sure it will be a Subaru.

Second of Many Subarus! - 2004 Subaru Outback
By Teenbiker - March 3 - 10:56 pmThis is an absolutely amazing car. Bought it this November and it far surpasses the 97 Outback Limited that it replaced. The 97 was a 2.5H4, so the upgrade to the H6 LLBean is unreal. Such a smooth engine, lots of power, and the transmission is light years better. The interior is beautiful: wood, leather, 2 sunroofs! The gas mileage hasnt been too bad either. Since the car has only been with us in winter cold temperatures and with winter-blend gas, Id say 19mpg is pretty good. The 97 got 17mpg in cold temperatures, so Im very pleased. We put in regular gas with no difference in the drivability of the car. This car is AMAZING in snow too! This is no doubt my second of many Subarus!

won out over audi a4 - 2004 Subaru Outback
By subby boy - March 1 - 2:00 amMy wife actually chose this car over the A4 avant wagon, with the conditions in Utah, the clearance, reliability, room, and features were a much better fit, of course it cost less as well

Good but Not Exciting - 2004 Subaru Outback
By christy - February 28 - 1:36 amIt is a decent car. It performs very well in snow -- better than our 4x4 rig. It is, well, just boring. But it is good.

A good solid vehicle - 2004 Subaru Outback
By Lrac - October 19 - 2:00 amA generally smooth driving, fuel economic vehicle. Some wind noise over 60MPH. I find the drivers seat to be a bit uncomfortable ( pressure on right buttock), and cant get rid of it with the seat adjustment. The sound system (McIntosh) is great. Fit and finishare OK, but there was a scratch on the windshield from the wiper blade from the start.

Best Car Ive Ever Owned!! - 2004 Subaru Outback
By Big Dog - August 8 - 12:50 pmI traded in my 97 Dodge Ram Pickup for this car. It was a dealer demo; had 6k on it when I got it, has 17k now. Car is awesome no problems at all. The 3.0 H-6 is a great engine, it has plenty of power to do the job and gets about 23 mpg, much better than the 13 mpg in my truck. The VDC is pretty cool; it gives you great confidence while driving. I turn it off in the snow and have some fun! The interior is great, leather heated seats and climate control plus the Macintosh stereo are all excellent. I love the wood grain trim and the sunroof is nice. It has a very comfortable ride and still performs excellent when pushed hard. As good or better than my mothers BMW 323 and girlfriends Audi A-4.

Great car - 2004 Subaru Outback
By Bill - August 4 - 10:56 amIve had my Outback a little over a year. I run my cars to death and they never set for long periods of time. I do newspaper delivery in this car. So you know the car has to be good. It gets driven anywhere from 60 miles to 150 miles everyday. The only problems Ive had with it is the water pump went out, nothing new had a 97 legacy gt with the same problem. Recently the CV boot tore in half and threw grease all over the catalytic converter. Not a big deal. The water pump was bad for almost two weeks before I took it into the shop. Car has never really left me down. Now I have had some performance parts put on it to compensate. Overall a great car would buy again.
