Overview & Reviews
The 2010 Subaru Outback has been fully redesigned. Changes include more interior room, more dramatic styling and new features.
- Spacious interior, crossover-besting cargo space, comfortable ride, simple controls on lower trims, commendable off-road performance for a wagon.
- Lacks agility, numb-on-center steering, awkward styling.

Subie Newbie & loving it - 2010 Subaru Outback
By Oakwise - December 16 - 6:33 amRequirements for my next car included versatility, build quality, mileage and a clean, responsible engine/transmission. I wanted something that didn’t suffer from “me too”, and it had to be comfortable for me (6’3”) and my wife (5’2”). The 2010 Subaru Outback does all of this and more. Even with me driving, there’s plenty of room in the back seat for another 6-footer. Coming from a V6 Highlander I was worried the Outback’s 4-cylinder would feel underpowered – but the 350lb lighter Subie scoots along just fine… with 20% better fuel economy. Looked at RAV4/CRV/Santa Fe and there was no comparison. The closest runner up was actually the Subaru Forrester.

Needs redesign of back end - 2010 Subaru Outback
By Heather - December 4 - 8:16 pmWithin a month of owning this car, the thin piece of trim above the rear hatch release snapped in half. To fix, the entire rear panel (with multiple parts, like the logo, lights, etc.) has to be bought: $400+. Thanks, Subaru. Why isnt this a large, solid panel? And why cant individual parts be purchased? Also, the hatch door can be difficult to close, making me repeatedly get out of the car to close the door. You have to slam it. Otherwise have loved the car. Road trip mileage of 34 mpg/500 miles on that tank! Previous car was 01 Forester with 180K.

Great wagon/SUV combination - 2010 Subaru Outback
By rschleicher - November 25 - 4:56 amIve only had my new Outback for a few weeks (600 miles), but it has been great. I was looking for something with a good AWD capability for driving up to Lake Tahoe in the winter, and one that would be pretty capable off-road, while having fairly car-like driving attributes, and better gas mileage than the full-size SUV I was replacing. The Outback scores on all aspects. Instead of being a compromise crossover that doesnt excel at anything, it is a vehicle that is truly a pleasure to drive in any environment. It satisfies my engineers need for utility and practicality, while still being very entertaining to drive. The 3.6 H6 engine is very smooth and strong, with decent mileage.

First Subaru - 2010 Subaru Outback
By Ohio - November 6 - 3:56 amBest features for the money, seriously considered a VW Jetta Sportwagon TDI, however felt too small inside. If the Subaru had a diesel available it would have been much easier. In our first 3,300 miles averaging 27/28 mpg everyday driving and 31/32 mpg on the highway at 70 mph. These are actual numbers, not those on the dash computer which seems to run 1 1/2 mpg high. The more I drive it the more value for the money I feel we bought. Replaced an Audi A6 Quartto with 197k miles. AWD is the only way to go, not only for winter driving but also in heavy rain and even on dry surfaces. The CVT trans is super quiet, only at hard acceleration is it noticed. The paddle shifters are great.

Best Outbak Yet! - 2010 Subaru Outback
By Dobes Rule! - November 2 - 3:00 amThis car is great! I have owned 15 cars is the last 12 years. Including 7 Subarus. This new Outback is so similar to the Tribeca in terms of ride quality, feel, etc. that now Subaru is going to have to upgrade that vehicle to maintain its flagship status. Awesome ride quality. Great fit & finish. Love the CVT transmission. Stock stereo sound quality is the best Subaru has had yet. My in-laws liked the car well enough that they went & purchased one too. Now it looks like my parents will be trading in their Outback for this updated version. Great car Subaru! Keep up the good work!

Suburu Delivers Again - 2010 Subaru Outback
By cwcrawford - October 24 - 6:06 amMy wife and I are thrilled with our 2010 Subaru Outback 2.5 LTD edition. Fit and finish are excellent, road noise minimal. The CVT transmission functions smoothly, minimizing engine noise on acceleration. Amenities are numerous and well placed. Road feel is positive and responsive despite Subarus best efforts to point the ride more like a car than a truck. Thats a plus for me -- Ive moved beyond bouncing. Bottom line, this car delivers what it promises.

Great Vehicle - 2010 Subaru Outback
By cwTX - October 14 - 10:00 amBought my Outback in late February and it has been a great car. Ive put over 18000 miles on it commuting to visit my fiance in Dallas (Im in Houston) about every weekend, driving to Flagstaff,AZ and back and then driving up to Maine and back. I have had 0 complaints. The power was more than sufficient in the mountains and canyons in AZ and the gas mileage has been superb-low 30s on the highway, high 20s in the city. Comfort has not been a problem, even for the 20 hrs straight the fiance and I spent inside the car on the way back from Maine. Between my moms BMW X5 and my Outback, I would pick my Outback. Definitely recommend.

Great car for tall drivers - 2010 Subaru Outback
By JRV - September 30 - 4:33 pmI cant tell you how many cars I sat in trying to find a comfortable drivers seat with good leg room (Im 61"). The Outback is just perfect. Love the heated seats, the padded arm rests and the steering wheel stereo controls. Auto dimming mirror and puddle lights are also a nice touch. This car is so smooth on the road, but more than stiff enough on the off road bumps.

Great value, fun to drive - 2010 Subaru Outback
By cfmelville - August 26 - 2:00 amWeve had the car for 11 months now and are pleased with the performance and reliability. The only maintenance weve needed was 2 oil changes, the last included checking for 2 recall issues (neither was found on our car.) Cargo room is adequate although with 2 adults and 2 large dogs we did purchase a roof basket since we car camp frequently. No complaints about handling, in fact the car handles quite well, very fast off the line and easy to drive on winding roads. Much nicer to drive than the Xterra we had before although not as rugged.

Great car, Awesome Harman Kardon audio! - 2010 Subaru Outback
By Steve B - July 16 - 5:20 amReplaced a Honda CR-V, was a very good decision for us. The Outback is roomier, more versatile, has better features for the money. So far, we are very pleased with the decision. CVT took some getting used to - the wind up/wind down is not something I have experienced before. Resulting gas mileage is a reasonable trade off. We thought about getting the V- 6 - glad we did not.
