This Year's Model Updates:

Subaru commemorates 35 years of selling cars in the U.S. by offering a 35th anniversary special edition of the Outback H6-3.0 wagon, though this amounts to little more than a new alloy wheel design and a fender-mounted badge. Red Burl interior trim is new for the Outback this year, and six-cylinder models get restyled 16-inch wheels. L.L. Bean and Limited models get a new brown leather covering on the shifter handle, brake handle and steering wheel.

Pros:
  • Standard all-wheel drive, comfortable ride on pavement, capable performance on dirt, well-appointed interior.
Cons:
  • Not as capable as an SUV in terms of pure off-road capability or interior volume, four-cylinder models lack power, upscale models are expensive.

What a dog this car is. Funny looking side panels, what are those about. Ever try to transport a dog in the back? No ventilation = unhappy pet. Cup holders are useless since they are too far back. And the thing auto shifts at the strangest times. Now it sounds like its blowing its nose around 1500 RPMs. Im going back to Toyota where I should have stayed. Give me back my Tacoma, please.

  • A great suprise - 2004 Subaru Outback

My last two cars have been Saabs, I like a car that handles and is fun to drive. The Subaru Outback is the best car I have driven and owned. The six cylinder is as almost as powerful as my 3.0 Turbo-charged Saab was. But the velvet smooth power is certainly in contrast to what the Saab felt like. The hydrauling motor-mounts must be the difference. Ive driven this car only about 1400 miles now but it is a real pleasure. The only thing is the comfort of the seats. It does have plenty of lumbar support for the lower back, but we have a jeep and a lexus as well, and the seats are just more comfortable in the other cars.

I have this car as well as a 2002 6cyLL Bean edition. The 2004 is more than adequate for highway driving; I commute 100+ Miles per day.The 2004 4cyl is definitely lighter in the handling but the ride, engine and transmission are smoothe. It has adequate pick up to get on the highway. I am happy with the vehicle and Subarus in general. My mileage is 24-25 per mile consistently.

Love teh car most of the time, but it keeps shutting off without warning while driving slow or at a stand still. Subaru so far hasnt been able to find the problem or fix it.

My 2003 Outback Limited is the fourth Subaru Ive owned. Built to last, they handle superbly in any weather. The ride is smooth and comfortable, overall fit/finish superior. Subarus dealerships have improved in customer service significantly in the last five years; Im now more satifisfied with my Subaru dealer than with the local BMW dealer Ive dealt with.

I FEEL SAVE IN MY SUBARU. ITS THE ONLY CAR ILL EVER OWN. I HAD A 1999 AND JUST TRADED IT FOR A 2004. THE MILAGE SEEMS TO BE ALITTLE BETTER.

  • MY 2003 OUTBACK - 2004 Subaru Outback

THIS IS OUR SECOND OUTBACK--WE PUT 135000 ON A 1999. THIS CAR IS THE H6, WHICH IS A BIG IMPROVEMENT IN POWER. WE FOUND THE OLD ONE AND THIS NEW ONE TO BE BULLETPROOF. THE NEW ONE HAS HAD NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER. WE HAVE DRIVEN IT 14,000 MILES IN LESS THAN SIX MONTHS, AND NOT A SINGLE COMPLAINT. IT GETS REASONABLY GOOD GAS MILEAGE (ABOUT 25 IF YOU HOLD IT TO 75MPH ON THE FREEWAY) DROPPING TO 23-24 IF YOU DRIVE IT 80-85, WHICH IT DOES COMFORTABLY. I DISLIKE THE NOISE LEVEL IN THE CABIN AT HIGHER SPEEDS. IT IS AN EXCELLENT SNOW CAR. THE HIGH CLEARANCE IS A REAL PLUS IN DEEP SNOW.

  • Subrau 6 cyl. - 2004 Subaru Outback

I really like this car, especially the 6 cyl. I have owned a 1997 Outback with the 2.5 engine. The new engine is much more refined and fun to drive. In fact, compared to my previous Acura coupe, it is close in handling and comfort and is just wonderful in the snow and other tough conditions. Yea, I would buy another one. Would like just a little bit more room however.
