Overview & Reviews
Subaru commemorates 35 years of selling cars in the U.S. by offering a 35th anniversary special edition of the Outback H6-3.0 wagon, though this amounts to little more than a new alloy wheel design and a fender-mounted badge. Red Burl interior trim is new for the Outback this year, and six-cylinder models get restyled 16-inch wheels. L.L. Bean and Limited models get a new brown leather covering on the shifter handle, brake handle and steering wheel.
- Standard all-wheel drive, comfortable ride on pavement, capable performance on dirt, well-appointed interior.
- Not as capable as an SUV in terms of pure off-road capability or interior volume, four-cylinder models lack power, upscale models are expensive.

Highly recommended - 2004 Subaru Outback
By JohnM - December 29 - 2:00 amI am extremely pleased with my Outback. Even with 4 cylinders, it gets me up some pretty steep roads. Handling the mountain highways is a delight.. Ride is smooth yet firm.

This car delivers! - 2004 Subaru Outback
By taspz - August 12 - 10:00 amThis is my third Subaru and second Outback. The 3.0 Outback sedan is a great car to drive and enjoy, a class up from the 4 cylinder wagon. It is plush inside with excellent climate control and a fantastic sound system. It combines typical Outback clearance and AWD comfort and safety on wet roads with smooth, quiet performance. It rivals cars that are far more expensive, as it is equally loaded. I love driving it.

Five in a row! - 2004 Subaru Outback
By Grandmom - July 6 - 10:00 amThis is my 5th Subaru. I am completely sold on the car. I have never had any major problems with any of the Subarus I have owned. This is absolutely the best car for the money on the market today. It can be used in the city, on the road or on the farm...all of which I do. Its performance and smoothness of its ride is far superior to my husbands new vehicle. My next car will be a Subaru also.

You gotta luv it! - 2004 Subaru Outback
By Coloradolefty - June 25 - 10:00 amMy first Subaru. Value per dollar spent is the best of any car I have owned. It is a marvelously easy car to drive and its inclement weather capabilities are second to none. If you live in snow or wet weather climates, this is the car...very stable and sure footed on the road.

6 Years Old and 125k miles - 2004 Subaru Outback
By CT Dave - April 26 - 12:43 amThis car has been a workhorse, grocery getter, commuter car, and family truckster for us. It still runs great and we hope to get 200k out of it. The exterior has held up well. The car has been dependable.

4th Subaru - 2004 Subaru Outback
By Booru - February 27 - 2:00 amI have owned 4 Subarus starting with a 84 GL Wagon. I have loved every. I looked at other SUVs and at the Outback VDC. Couldnt justify (to myself) the extra cost of the VDC vs. benefits. Liked the LL Bean from the first moment I saw it and sat in it. Agile in city, country, beach, and mountain driving. The H6 has impressive power pared with the smooth transmission makes for a terrific combination.

My Subaru, too - 2004 Subaru Outback
By FreBra - December 3 - 2:00 amNeeds more head room in front and more leg room in rear. Difficult to enter and exit the front seats due to the windshield post(s) incline. Definitely not a 5 passenger (adult) vehicle.

Sublime Subaru - 2004 Subaru Outback
By Subfan - June 22 - 10:00 amAfter extensively researching and driving several crossover vehicles, the Outback seemed the logical choice. (Others considered: Nissan Murano, Mitsubishi Endeavor, Toyota Highlander.) I bought the top-of-the-line VDC model, and paid slightly under dealers invoice (whatever that means, given dealer holdback and other strategems). I needed a modest amount of cargo capacity and good handling of mountain roads; purchasing something larger just didnt seem necessary. Im very pleased with the result--fine handling, power, and visibility; a smooth, quiet ride; and an interior that matches that of more expensive vehicles.
