This Year's Model Updates:

Beloved by compact car enthusiasts, the Nissan Sentra SE-R returns after a seven-year hiatus. The Sentra SE is no longer available, though Nissan has created additional options packages for the GXE to make it similar to the SE.

Pros:
  • SULEV emissions status for CA model, 165-horsepower SE-R sport version, pleasing cabin design, fun to drive.
Cons:
  • Generic styling, GXE and SE-R models command premium price.

  • Man I love this car! - 2002 Nissan Sentra

I have owned this car for a year now and still grin while driving it. I drive like a bat out of hell and the worst mileage I get is 22 mpg -- which is terrific for a performance car and the way I drive. I traded my 2002 Impreza WRX for this and have ZERO regrets. That thing was falling apart from day 1. Nissan makes great cars, loaded with low end torque (which is where the power is) and I thoroughly enjoy owning this car. Plus, it smokes most cars that test me. The power is even throughout the power band. I have the silver with the red/black interior and it is awesome.

For under $20K my car can performs in a class with $40K competitors. Contrary to Edmunds own statistics, its capable of 7-7.1 second 0-60 times. Most 5- speeds will hit 60 in second gear, but the Spec-V is geared lower in 1st and 2nd and hence you must get into 3rd to hit 60 mph - but by that time youll have a smile plastered across your face. The car feels solid, with a suspension that makes most sedans feel like SUVs when cornering. Dual anti- sway bars and a front strut tower brace lend rigidity to the frame. Edmunds says its styling is boring, but compare it to car makers trying to be cool with their wavy lines, and the Spec-V simply looks better.

I was choosing between a Golf GL, Acura RSX base a Honda Civic Si Veloz edition and the Spec V. Drove all four and checked out the insurance rates for all. The Spec V won. After taking the Honda out a realizing how good the fuel mileage was I thought that was the one. I then took out the Spec V. If your into power and control, its a no brainer to get the Spec V. Almost a year into it and Im loving it!

  • know what you want - 2002 Nissan Sentra

I knew what I wanted and told the dealership exactly what I wanted and what I wanted to pay. It worked and it was the easiest process I had ever been through. Did my homework and it paid off. The Sentra is a nice looking car and it performs and looks like a more expensive vehicle.

  • The Best none-turbo car with power - 2002 Nissan Sentra

This is the best 4 banger car ever made and theres no turbo. WOW!! The SPEC-V suspenion is great! Turns like a dream. Love this car.

  • Would buy again - 2002 Nissan Sentra

I bought this car with 30 miles on it, and it now has 112,000. Unfortunately, a rear end collision is forcing me to give up a car I would have kept forever!! Very reliable, and just the right size, this 5-speed manual GXE has served me well. I kept up the maintenance like clockwork, and for that I have never had an engine problem. I am now looking to buy another Nissan Sentra regardless of the negative reviews I continue to see.

Ive been driving this car for the past eight months and Im totally satisfied with this car. No problems, looks great and handles very well. Id recommend this car to anyone, I intend to hand it down to my teenage son eventually and almost hate the thought of giving it up.

  • Insanly fun! - 2002 Nissan Sentra

This car loves hills (thanks to high low end torque) and curves (thanks to the best balanced sport suspension on the market, in my opinion). It is unbelievably fun in the curves. For 16,500 you cant beat this car. Its so fun and yet so practicle. I average 26 mpg. Changing the muffler to a ravin performance stainless steel and putting in a Holley Performance drop in filter which will give me about 10-12 hp. The muffler is 215 at midas, and the filter was 38 at advanced autoparts. The holley pn is 221-14 and outperforms the k&n by 10%.

  • Drivers (On A Budget) Wanted - 2002 Nissan Sentra
    By -

Needed: a long-term reliable commuting car, quick and fun, for a little money as possible. At $18K fully loaded, theres no decision to make. Key attractions: Altima engine, big for the Sentra class, delivers serious torque without a turbo- or super- charger; 6-speed; handling-oriented suspension; and driver interfaces for real drivers (seats, steering, etc.) Strangely, while this car is clearly targeted at the 17-25 demographic (black-netting-over-orange fabric, Rockford-Fosgate stereo w/ trunk mounted kicker box), it only comes with 4-doors. Fortunately, Nissan did a great job of giving the dull Sentra body a totally different SE-R look.

  • Excellent car, excellent value - 2002 Nissan Sentra
    By -

I purchased this car because of the good reviews and the great value. I liked the interior of this car much better than any other small car. Everything is right where I need it and I never get uncomfortable in my hour long commute everyday. The build quality and reliability is excellent so far - no problems. I would recommend this car to anyone shopping for a small sedan.
