This Year's Model Updates:

Beloved by compact car enthusiasts, the Nissan Sentra SE-R returns after a seven-year hiatus. The Sentra SE is no longer available, though Nissan has created additional options packages for the GXE to make it similar to the SE.

Pros:
  • SULEV emissions status for CA model, 165-horsepower SE-R sport version, pleasing cabin design, fun to drive.
Cons:
  • Generic styling, GXE and SE-R models command premium price.

  • Great car that could have been better. - 2002 Nissan Sentra

Have about 18k miles on the car in two years. Has been in the shop twice for recalls, and has a consistent problem with starting. Dealership says it probably floods, told me to press down gas pedal when starting if this happens. Has happened about 12 times in last year. Problem still not found, though Ive towed it to the dealership twice. A shame since its less than 2 years old. Almost always takes a long time to start. It does, however, get a LOT of compliments when out driving.

I really love this car and dont regret getting it at all. Kinda wish mine had a sun roof but its all good. Extremely fun car to drive. Excellent handling, acceleration, and braking. Dealership sucked, but I cant hold that against the vehicle. Ive gotten tons of compliments on this car. This car is no joke at all.

2.5 L engine!... NO BOSE! Its a fun little car. Not the greatest of build quality, but I havent had any problems yet. The interior has some cheap plastics, and rattles a little bit (noticed a lot more in cold climate). Gas mileage isnt bad for a 2.5 L engine with a good amount of torque. I average more than 28mpg on every tank. The 5-spd manual is really rare. Ive seen only 1 other automatic, while the rest are all spec-vs.

I just wanted to make a honest review from first hand experience. Bought this car brand new in 2001. First problem I had was a flat tire with but that was a easy fix. I had the oxygen sensor fix, ECU unit replaced all under warranty with about 60,000 miles. At 130,000 miles had the rack and pinion replaced due to leaking. Stuck at the park gear and using the shift lock to release to other gears. Currently have 148,000 miles and still going. The paint on the hood is fading away. Its a 9 year old car. Will have to replace the timing belt soon. I tend to loose power going up hills. Hopefully reach the 200,000 miles. Other than that a reliable car.

  • For the $ its hard to beat - 2002 Nissan Sentra

I was trying to decide between a 2002 Accord or a Civic EX. Having owned preludes and accords in the past it seemed the way to go... until, on a fluke, I test drove the 02 SE-R. What a value for $17,500! It had the performance lacking in the accord, and the difference between the SE-R and the Civic is night and day. Value is apparent in that the SE-R comes standard with side molding, fog lights, spoiler, real rims. For the same price, the Civic EX gives you HUB CAPS of all things!!!

  • a lot of car for under 16k - 2002 Nissan Sentra

I have a SER with a 5 speed and bought it because it is the fastest car for the money. If you notice all these reviews are comparing the SER with RSX Type S and the Suburu WSX, these cars cost almost 10k more than the SER, and while I will concede it is slower its not that much slower for 10k less

This car is just flat out fun, and with many practical qualities such as 4 doors, great head/leg room it really is a great bargain. I have had the car for 12,000 miles now, and I have taken advantage of many of the aftermarket parts available. The list includes intake, header, exhaust, air/fuel computer, Tein SS suspension, and now Nismo front and rear sway bars. I believe the money I saved on initial purchase has allowed me to buy aftermarket goodies that have put the car in another class in power & handling. One note: I wish I had bought the Spec-V only for the Limited Slip Differential.

front bucket seats are really comfortable. lots of pep in the se-r even with the automatic transmission. the 9 speaker rockford fosgate audio pkg is a real bargain and sounds terrific.

  • Econosport = Cheap fun - 2002 Nissan Sentra

A great car for the price - youll swear the engines not a 4 banger. Im 61", and the head room and leg room in the front are plenty roomy. This car loves mountain roads - the tires are nice, until you wear them out from spinning them on fast starts... The front end Skyline look is awesome, but the rear needs work, even with the decent spoiler. Tends to burn oil quickly...
