This Year's Model Updates:

Beloved by compact car enthusiasts, the Nissan Sentra SE-R returns after a seven-year hiatus. The Sentra SE is no longer available, though Nissan has created additional options packages for the GXE to make it similar to the SE.

Pros:
  • SULEV emissions status for CA model, 165-horsepower SE-R sport version, pleasing cabin design, fun to drive.
Cons:
  • Generic styling, GXE and SE-R models command premium price.

This car has a lot more torque than other small cars in the same price range - and thats what makes it a very fun car to drive. The manual transmission is a bit notchy, the interior materials areant of the highest quality, and the red-colored instrument panel is tough to see sometimes.... But you need to remember that this is baiscally a cheap economy car with a big engine dropped in it. If you take it for what it is, its a great car. Ive been averaging 28 mpg with mostly highway driving - not great for a small car, but there is a lot more bottom end on this engine than on a Civic or Corolla engine, so you are trading mpg for torque.

  • Good New Purchase Value - 2002 Nissan Sentra

When I first bought the vehicle it was a really good value for the money. Lots of features and excellent performance. After two years of ownership and 80K km the car is still pretty solid but the performance doesnt feel as good as it did. Ive had numerous recalls and the ECU decides to act up every now and then by stalling the engine - the dealer still cant figure it out. The interior is not the greatest, design or material wise, but the build quality is pretty good and the seats are great for hard driving. Although the colour of the fabric (red/mesh/black) is not the best, I think the material is excellent - with the exception of a little fraying on the seat back.

  • Great vs. Competitors - 2002 Nissan Sentra

I bought this car simply because it was cheaper and a heck of a lot funner to drive than a Civic. It has not dissapointed. I have over 60K on it and it is still running like new. No major repairs at all. The only problem I have had is my front rotors warp very easily. Im going to keep it well maintained and expect over 200,000K from it. The gas milage is acceptable, would probably be better if it didnt turn almost 3500 rpm at 75 mph. All in all, a blast to drive, looks great and holds up well --- Id buy another.

  • Good Value; Commuter Car - 2002 Nissan Sentra

Less than a month of ownership. Overall a good value in the market. Older design as compared with the makes. Avg. 35 mpg overall. Closer to 40 mpg would be nice. Responsive handling, good brakes, good headlight illumination, good overall visibility (sans the rear spoiler). The seats were a deal maker for me, great!(1.8/automatic)

  • Just Makes Sense... - 2002 Nissan Sentra

This car just makes sense in almost every way. It offers practicallity along with styling and performance. Where else can you get all that for under 20K! My last 96SER has 120K miles and is still going strong. I hope this new one came from the same mold...

  • SE-R is a winner! - 2002 Nissan Sentra
    By -

When I first saw this car, I thought "Jeez, another Japanese car with a rear spoiler...just what I need (NOT!)." Then I drove it...it was great! Smooth, powerful (as a small car can be) and handles like a sports car. My only gripe is the styling. Now if Nissan could make the Altima look and drive like this, theyd have a real winner.

  • 2002 Spec-v - 2002 Nissan Sentra

The new spec-v The only extremely bad point which makes me wish i didn`t buy the car My car has now 4965 miles on it and i and many other owners have numerouse paint chips on the front of our cars and even the roof nissan refuses to repaint the hood blaming the consumer for it`s poor paint quality , my car in peticular has bad paint a very well resoected autobody shop has tried to get a consistent reading on paint thickness and can find none so if you don`t mind your cars front, sides, roof having no paint \, however with the poor paint the car will have no resale value in my oppinion don`t buy the car i`m planning on selling mine
