This Year's Model Updates:

Beloved by compact car enthusiasts, the Nissan Sentra SE-R returns after a seven-year hiatus. The Sentra SE is no longer available, though Nissan has created additional options packages for the GXE to make it similar to the SE.

Pros:
  • SULEV emissions status for CA model, 165-horsepower SE-R sport version, pleasing cabin design, fun to drive.
Cons:
  • Generic styling, GXE and SE-R models command premium price.

  • Man I love this car! - 2002 Nissan Sentra

I have owned this car for a year now and still grin while driving it. I drive like a bat out of hell and the worst mileage I get is 22 mpg -- which is terrific for a performance car and the way I drive. I traded my 2002 Impreza WRX for this and have ZERO regrets. That thing was falling apart from day 1. Nissan makes great cars, loaded with low end torque (which is where the power is) and I thoroughly enjoy owning this car. Plus, it smokes most cars that test me. The power is even throughout the power band. I have the silver with the red/black interior and it is awesome.

Mine was a lemon, it was built with an alignment problem. The reason why I would give this review a negative one, is that the car company, should be more helpful in getting you into a car that built correctly, they are just interested more on how they are going to loose money rather than the safety of your family! Not that great on gas also...some other issues may be a problem (it gives too much power when pressing on the gas that the tires screech)........buyers TEST IT WELL before buying it

  • Nissan Spec V - Bad Manual Tranny - 2002 Nissan Sentra

I like the looks and engine has decent pep. The manual transmission leave a lot to be desired. Had nothing but problems with the manual tranny. The gear ratios dont seem right and shifting gears is problematic, hard to do and often caused grinding. Ive driven stick for 20 years and never had this before. The Audio system is overrated, for the price. The dealer turned into a #@$ after the sale, when I complained about the transmission.

  • Nice car, but not very fuel efficent - 2002 Nissan Sentra

I bought my 2002 Nissan Sentra SE-R mainly because of Nissans reputation for building reliable vehicles, but Ive been very dissapointed in the fuel ecomony. I was expecteting something close to what was adverstised on the sticker (25-28 city).. but Ive never gotten better than 21... not a huge difference.. but dissapointing.

For under $20K my car can performs in a class with $40K competitors. Contrary to Edmunds own statistics, its capable of 7-7.1 second 0-60 times. Most 5- speeds will hit 60 in second gear, but the Spec-V is geared lower in 1st and 2nd and hence you must get into 3rd to hit 60 mph - but by that time youll have a smile plastered across your face. The car feels solid, with a suspension that makes most sedans feel like SUVs when cornering. Dual anti- sway bars and a front strut tower brace lend rigidity to the frame. Edmunds says its styling is boring, but compare it to car makers trying to be cool with their wavy lines, and the Spec-V simply looks better.

  • Problem-free - 2002 Nissan Sentra

Owned this vehicle (GXE w/ cruise control package) from 2001-2008 and through 180K miles only recently showed problems (oil leakage). Prior to that, only repairs needed were for leaking AC (2 times), blocked radiator and oil leak. None of these occurred within the first 100K miles. Car provided 30 mpg this year. For the price, great car.

  • Wicked Ride - 2002 Nissan Sentra

I was choosing between a Golf GL, Acura RSX base a Honda Civic Si Veloz edition and the Spec V. Drove all four and checked out the insurance rates for all. The Spec V won. After taking the Honda out a realizing how good the fuel mileage was I thought that was the one. I then took out the Spec V. If your into power and control, its a no brainer to get the Spec V. Almost a year into it and Im loving it!

  • I traded my Jetta for this?????????? - 2002 Nissan Sentra

I traded my 98 wolfsburg for this vehicle for more power at decent price. I couldnt believe no one mentioned premium gas. My salesman filled it for me and I bet he put in 87. Even with the right gas, the mileage is poor at best. I do like the kick and the front end styling. Had to get the sunroof, which is nice. Hit the gas from dead stop and you might as well just get out and puncture your tires. It is nice vehicle, but nothing special. I wouldnt recommend.

  • know what you want - 2002 Nissan Sentra
    By -

I knew what I wanted and told the dealership exactly what I wanted and what I wanted to pay. It worked and it was the easiest process I had ever been through. Did my homework and it paid off. The Sentra is a nice looking car and it performs and looks like a more expensive vehicle.
