The base model is now simply called "Base" instead of S. Nissan works to quiet the Sentra's interior by using a bigger muffler and reducing the number of suspension-mounting points.

• Relatively powerful engine, nice interior ergonomics, and good fuel economy.

  This car is so reliable, surprising power, fuel economic (twin cams). this car is also very underrated (as good or even better than a civic which is also overrated).

  My 1997 Sentra just turned over 130,000 miles yesterday and I thought Id offer my review. The car has been outstanding. So far Ive only performed routine scheduled maintenance with no failed components except for the original battery, which died after 6 years of service. This car has been unbelievably reliable. Be sure to get the 5-speed transmission. These cars must seem really slow w/o it.

  This car is the best car I have ever driven. This is my first car and I am going to keep for a very long time. Very fun to drive. Very smooth ride and no complaints.

  Amazing little car! Fun to drive, great on gas, and it wont nickel and dime you. I bought this car used with 50k miles, it just hit 80k, and I have had no problems with it. An incredibly reliable vehicle- this car has been nothing but good to me. The perfect car for the college commuter.

The total cost of ownership for 4.5 years, excluding gas, is $300. Ignore everything dealers offer in maintenance packets; just stick to the bare-minimum maintenance requirements in your booklet.
