Overview & Reviews
Only the LE trim level sees change in 1999, with new body-color fender flares and SE-style alloy wheels, tires and tubular step rails.
- Fresh shape, wonderful interior, good reliability.
- Steep price, engine could be stronger.

great in head-on - 1999 Nissan Pathfinder
By ellen black - September 13 - 8:40 pmThis is my second Pathfinder. I was in a head on collision in my first at 45mph with my daughter in the front seat. Both cars were totaled, but we both walked away. I had whiplash, but by daughter was unscratched. Accelerator pedal sticks, doesnt handle well on turns, and the fuel economy is awful, plus there are small rust spots around passanger door windows already, after 60,000 miles. Im still mostly happy with it.

Solid SUV - 1999 Nissan Pathfinder
By Mattm - July 23 - 10:00 amNice style and reliability. Lacks the engine power and gas mileage is very poor. The truck is good for someone with a short daily commute or longer highway trips. This is not the truck for you if you commute 40+ miles a day. Youll end up spending a ton on gas money. Im trading mine in for a better fuel efficent Nissan.

Ill never get rid of it - 1999 Nissan Pathfinder
By BOB - November 11 - 5:36 amI bought this SUV new in 1999 and after 110,000 miles its still going strong. Replaced the front struts at 60k and the timing belt at 107k. The only problem Ive had is the gas tank door breaking from its hinges. When I buy a new car Ill still keep it. It has given me zero problems.

Reliable SUV - 1999 Nissan Pathfinder
By Derek - November 28 - 6:10 pmThis has been a reliable SUV for us. Poor gas mileage has made us trade in our other car to get one with higher gas mileage. The Pathfinder drives more like a truck due to the noise of the motor and low HP. The only two problems we have had are as follows: O2 sensor went out, and the gas tank door broke. Other than that it has been a reliable car. The leather isnt that nice and the display is kind of dated, but what do you expect from a 1999. We dont like the new Pathfinders, so we will probably trade in for a different SUV.

Reliable and great in off-road/snow conditions - 1999 Nissan Pathfinder
By erynnjean - August 16 - 1:33 pmI bought my 99 Pathfinder used in 2006 with 109,000 miles on it. Since then I have put another 100,000 miles on it, driven back and forth across the country 3 times and used my car frequently in off road/snowy conditions. I treat my cars pretty roughly, but Pathfinder never gave me any problems. If you are looking for a reliable truck that performs excellently in snow and off road conditions this could be a great car for you. She is a reliable commuter car, but does not get great MPG. Beware, though, the 99 comes in a 99.5 model. This means that finding the right parts can be a bit laborious - it seems as if Nissan mixed and matched parts when they made the 99.5.

Good truck posing as car - 1999 Nissan Pathfinder
By pathbuddy - November 24 - 12:40 amBought it used and have put 40000 miles on it in 5 years. Have had to replace struts, exhaust and ignition switch. Currently have a check engine light on for sensors in the block, probably will cost $1G. I like sitting up high and instruments easily reachable. I also had that experience with the gas cap door, though mine is just out of alignment. Mileage is acceptable 18. Im getting some rust on the exterior of the step bar outside the doors, nowhere else. Will have to replace the timing belt shortly because I have 80000 on it now. I dont know if it is the tires but I get a humming at high speeds.

Nice Pre-Graduation Present! - 1999 Nissan Pathfinder
By About to Graduate! - December 26 - 10:00 amMy Dad bought me this car last year after driving him crazy for it. I love it! The fuel efficiency is whats got me a bit uncomfortable with our current gas situation and all. But I did jump from a 97 Civic to an SUV after all. If youre thinking of purchasing this model - do test drive, test drive! So you can feel the difference for yourself.
