The fuel pump failed the third week of ownership and I thought uh-oh. But that turned out to be the last major problem thus far, 251,000 miles later. Most reliable car Ive ever owned. Have used 15w-50 synthetic oil every 6k miles and drain the 4 qt of transmission fluid out of the automatic every 30k and everything still works, except for the CD player. Mileage is now only around 19 with gasohol,

I have overall been happy with my vehicle. Fuel economy is poor and HP is low, but it is fairly comfortable and has been reliable. My only mechanical problem has been a check engine light that read out as an oxygen sensor failure.

  • Great mid-size 4X4 SUV - 1999 Nissan Pathfinder

I bought my 1999 Pathfinder SE used with 89,000 to with replace a 1987 Pathfinder SE 4X4 5 speed with 277,000 miles. This has many more creature comforts than the 87 did. But the 87 was be more trail ready (full frame, skid plates, etc). I too had to replace the struts and shocks. I recently upgraded my tires to a set of All Terrains too. I do need to replace some weather stripping between the doors. The Bose stereo is nice, but the volume knob doesnt work right. I kinda have to pull up some so the contacts work. I also added a Sirius satellite receiver for long trips.

  • If you need an SUV this is the one! - 1999 Nissan Pathfinder

This is my first SUV but likely my last. While this may sound like the start of a negative review, it actually isnt. I really dont need an SUV, I dont have anything to tow around and despite it being amazing in the winter its just not a neccessity. The truth is, I got caught up with the whole yuppy craze with getting an SUV. I am really disappointed with the fuel mileage that this type of vehicle gets. I knew it would be worse than a typical car but I think 15mpg is just unexceptable. The reliability and comfort of this vehicle are fantastic. I looked at all the competition and this is the one to get, if you really need to have one!

Ride/handling/V6 resemble previous vehicle, 93 M-B wagon with 4-wheel drive; V6 smoother than the competitors; transmission problem: downshift from torque-converter-lockout to OD stutters; wife likes low step-up and ease of loading packages; rear-end styling not distinctive

  • Real nice suv - 1999 Nissan Pathfinder

I purchased this vehicle in july of 1999. It has been the most reliable automobile I have ever owned. After breaking it in I changed to Mobil 1 motor oil, got two more MPG and it has been and outstanding dependable SUV. The car has never seen the dealership for any warrantee or recalls. That is how much you can count on this car everyday. Just turn the key and no matter the weather (4X4) your on you way. Now some six years old, these SUVs are great for college students. Offering plenty of room, not bad MPG 18-20, and a strong truck frame & body to protect your young drivers. What would you like to see you student driving? A small Civic or a REAL SOLID TRUCK? Sometimes bigger is better.

  • Going Strong - 1999 Nissan Pathfinder
    By -

I bought my Pathfinder in Dec. 1999 as a bigger vehicle for my 1st born. Hes almost 12 and in that time weve had noo major problems. It only has 80,000 miles (I use it mainly to commute) and is going strong, so he may end up driving it at 16! The reliability of this vehicle has been excellent. My other cars have always been Toyotas, but this Nissan has been as (if not more) reliable than the Toyotas Ive owned!
