This Year's Model Updates:

The Maxima has been (controversially) redesigned, providing more power, more room and more amenities to the luxury/performance sedan buyer. Key among the improvements is 222 horsepower from the standard V6, a boost in rear-seat legroom and an available 200-watt Bose audio system.

Pros:
  • Silky and powerful V6 engine, sports car moves, room for the whole family.
Cons:
  • Odd styling details, high price, rough ride quality with SE suspension.

  • Love it ! - 2000 Nissan Maxima

I wasnt in the market for a Nissan Maxima but a friend of mine had done a lot of car and SUV research and loved the new Maxima. She ended up buying an SUV but she said if should would have bought a car, it would have been the Maxima. So, I started doing my own reasearch on them and after a few test drives, I decided I wanted one. Mine is fully loaded and I have the bigger wheels (17"). Everyone always comments on how roomie my car is even when the front seat is slid back. The leather still looks great. Good sound system. Good size trunk. I am very happy with this car and would buy another one.

Great car, love the heated seats and the sunroof and the bose stereo. The power in this car is great. I have gone 115mph and was not shaking at all. Good performance car.

  • Best Car Ive ever owned - 2000 Nissan Maxima

I put over 118,000 miles on this car over the years and did many modifications to make it even sportier. The car has a great engine, interior and exterior. With a few brake, spring and exhaust mods this car can be somewhat fast and handle really well. The Bose CD/tape deck sounds great and the power features are really good. I only had one major repair ($600 for ignition coils) prior to the transmission dying at 118K.

Im at 151k miles on this 2000 SE model and still love this car. Great speed, comfort, and looks. I just recently encountered the coils issue that will need repair but otherwise its been a GREAT car. At 64" tall, Ive had plenty of leg room and good back support on long rides. I dont recommend Z-rating tires on the car though as you can wear them out quickly and at $250 a tire to replace, regular tires will do the trick for this speed and handling.

  • No surprise - 2000 Nissan Maxima

Replaced a 96 Buick Skylark. Performance doesnt beat the Buick by as much as I hoped (222 vs. 155hp) but otherwise a far better car in every way. Huge rear seat, reliable, joy to drive. I disagree about Maximas being ugly. I think the 02-03 in silver with spoiler is the hottest looking car on the road! Now the 04, thats hideous. what were they thinking? Oh well, Id probably buy it anyway.

  • Outstanding Automobile - 2000 Nissan Maxima

I purchased my Maxima 4 years ago and have not had any major problems what so ever. This vehicle has been in the shop twice. The first time was to have the trailing O2 sensor replaced and the second time was to replace the defective trailing O2 sensor that was put in to replace the one that replaced the original. This has been an outstanding vehicle and real pleasure to drive. I average around 29 mpg on the highway which is unheard of for a vehicle this size. I am absolutely sold on the Nissan Maxima and will likely purchase another when that time comes around!

Having driven a Jeep Grand Cherokee before, I was looking for a car that tracks well, has the same grunt the 5.2 ltr V8 in the Jeep had, and offers me a manual. Not wanting to spend more than $24k, the list became pretty short quickly. I was not disappointed by the engine. How sweet it is! Lots of grunt, lots of revability. I think teh car looks a little weird from the outside, but I dont have to look at it while I am driving. Build quality and reliability have been excellent, and I am getting about 24 mpg in mixed, somewhat aggressive driving. The tires are almost shot after only 22,000 miles

  • 5-spd, 5 passenger fun. - 2000 Nissan Maxima

With a 5 speed tranny and 222 horses working up front, this car is a blast to drive. A bit of body roll but easily fixed with some add-ons. Comfortable cabin, great design and fabulous engine. Its also nice to pull up to a light and take on a kid in a 4 banger who thinks hes ready to be on the fast and the furious.

i have the se model and i can not pry this auto from my wife. she has already gotten one speeding ticket. before you know it, you are going 80 mph. the pickup is awesome. i have the 17" wheel upgrade and it handles like a slot car. i am seriously considering purchasing another one and selling my jaguar. thats right, giving up my xj8l jag for another se maxima. this car is well put together, and looks best in black.

  • Extreme Reliability - 2000 Nissan Maxima

I purchased my Maxima December 22, 2000. This has been an extremely reliable vehicle. I have taken care of regular maintenance when it due to be done and have had only one problem with the vehicle this entire time. The starter needed replaced in mid summer of 2005. I currently have over 110,000 miles on the vehicle and have no reservations about driving it cross country. The ONLY reason I may get rid of this vehicle would be to purchase a new Maxima!
