Overview & Reviews
The Maxima has been (controversially) redesigned, providing more power, more room and more amenities to the luxury/performance sedan buyer. Key among the improvements is 222 horsepower from the standard V6, a boost in rear-seat legroom and an available 200-watt Bose audio system.
- Silky and powerful V6 engine, sports car moves, room for the whole family.
- Odd styling details, high price, rough ride quality with SE suspension.

Love it, but am Disappointed - 2000 Nissan Maxima
By klg677 - January 1 - 9:03 amI have owned two Nissan Maximas, a 1990 and a 2000 SE. I purchased the 2000 SE in 10/2002. Unfortunately the 2000 model has been the problem child. First the coils went which cost $750 to fix. Then the altenator, I know these things happen wtih cars none are totally maintenance free, but after reading some of the reviews and seeing the coils mentioned over and over I wonder why they havent been recalled yet. Incidentally the 1990 SE is still going strong with no major problems.

Nissan Family - 2000 Nissan Maxima
By POCO - October 12 - 2:00 amMy husband and I purchased this vehicle with high miles because we got a very good deal on it. My husband loves it. We are Nissan owners. All our past Nissans have performed exceptionally well and we hope this one will repeat the same performance. When Im in the drivers seat..Im comfortable, however, when in the passengers seat, Im not as comfortable although, the ride is a smooth one..I like a little more room to stretch. My son loves it. Its stylish and the blue color is just amazing. Its fast on the highway and the ride isnt bumpy at all. Big tires contributes to the smooth ride.

2000 Nissan Maxima - 2000 Nissan Maxima
By Nissan Guy - July 3 - 3:53 pmHello all, Ive had my Nissan Maxima for about 4 yrs now. Not a bad car, it had 24,000 mi on it when I bought it in 2003, now has 112,500 mi on it. Besides the normal wear and tear, oil changes, expensive tires, I had to replace the front and rear rotors, both rear calipers, they leaked brake fluid. Had 1 ignition coil replaced at about 105,000 mi, that cost me $600. That was just one, they told me that the years 2000 to 2001 the coils were junk, so if you have one of those years, and you have not replaced them yet, youre lucky. Had to have the CPU reprogrammed, engine light came on due to the increase in ethanol to 10% from 5%. Its a very fast car with lots of power, Id buy another Nissan!

2000 Maxima GXE (5 speed) - 2000 Nissan Maxima
By Mykal - June 4 - 10:00 amWe love this car and see ourselves in a few years going to a Nissan dealer and saying, "We want the same thing, but newer!" Its that good. Powerful, fun, roomy, looks good. Maximas only keep getting more powerful (hard to imagine, but even more fun!). They need to work on the notchy manual transmission! Its the only real sore spot about this car.

Great Car, only minor issues so far - 2000 Nissan Maxima
By Splat - May 6 - 10:00 amWeve had our car for over 3 years now, and really enjoy it. Very reliable, except for some annoying squeeks in various places in the cabin (front pillars, roof liner).

could be better - 2000 Nissan Maxima
By Dirt E - November 9 - 3:40 pmI expected this car to be reliable but i have had to change a lot with the coils and the sensors. It does have impressive performance and from just a visual perspective it is a beauty, but it shouldnt have that many problems.

It was great...what happened - 2000 Nissan Maxima
By Mikey Z - September 28 - 10:00 amThis was a great car for the first two years that I owned it. But as the miles have racked up it really hasnt help up like other Nissans Ive had. There are all sorts of nasty sounds that this car makes when accelerating and the transmission just doesnt like to be driven at anything over half throttle or itll bang around or not shift at all. Lots of pinging. The stereo has broken. The A/C is noisy. Just stuff I wouldnt expect from a Nissan. Yes...Ive had it in and out of the dealer and mechanics. Theyve replaced things...only for them to break again. Definite disappointment. Should have bought a 99.

High performer, needs a little TLC - 2000 Nissan Maxima
By G-Man - August 28 - 5:03 amThis car has been a high performer. The car is 7.5 years old and has 97000 miles on it. It feels like it still has a lot left. I cant imagine why people pay twice the price for european cars. However, the exhaust (not just the muffler and pipes) system is a little too complex to be as reliable as it should be. The Dealer told me to use premium gas, but could not convey the technical reasons. So maintenance costs are higher than a Camry or Accord, but this car performs a lot better.

A Nissan Surprise - 2000 Nissan Maxima
By lafoca - June 9 - 7:43 pmMy wife and I got this car used with 18K miles. For three years we loved the car. Great acceleration, comfortable, decent mileage, and WAS fairly reliable. At 70K miles we started having problems with the vehicle starting. After 5 (!) trips to the dealer the extended warranty we purchased is proving to be a life saver. In the past month they have replaced the starter, battery, fuel pump, MAF sensor (3x), and it still has cold start problems as well as engine stalling problems on accelleration. The most frustrating part is that the DEALER cannot figure it out. I have been in a Mazda for a week (the warranty covers a rental) and Im about ready to dump the Maxima for a new Mazda6!!!
