This Year's Model Updates:

The Maxima has been (controversially) redesigned, providing more power, more room and more amenities to the luxury/performance sedan buyer. Key among the improvements is 222 horsepower from the standard V6, a boost in rear-seat legroom and an available 200-watt Bose audio system.

Pros:
  • Silky and powerful V6 engine, sports car moves, room for the whole family.
Cons:
  • Odd styling details, high price, rough ride quality with SE suspension.

I love this car. It out performs any other car in the class. Ive driven "suped" up Camrys, Acuras, and others and I like my car best.

  • Nissan-never again! - 2000 Nissan Maxima

Between 58,000 & 58,500 I had to replace all 6 ignition coils ($490), the Mass Airflow Sensor ($538), the Throttle Response Sensor ($393). The A/T also had to be replaced, under warranty. During the 58,500 miles the A/T was serviced twice and a external cooler installed in series with the factory cooler. I am a preventative maintenance junkie! The transmission failure should never of happened. Nissan is pure junk!! The A/T should of went al least 150,000 miles. The rebuilt replacement has only a 12/12 warranty. I will get rid of this junker before the current warranty runs out! I understand Nissan is now controlled by a French Co. That explains the poor reliability!

  • One of my favorite cars - 2000 Nissan Maxima

I purchased it used in 2005 for a decent price with relatively low mileage and all the bells and whistles. I drove it for 10 years with very little mechanical issues, including no issues with the coils that others have written about. I kept up the normal maintenance, used premium gasoline, and made sure to get regular oil changes. I really loved this car, I loved driving it, and was not looking forward to letting it go, but by 10/27/15 I was starting to think of getting a new vehicle as I was getting older and getting in and out of the car was getting more difficult, and putting 42 pound bags of cat litter in and out of the trunk was also becoming taxing. However, some moron in a Dodge Ram Truck took the name of his vehicle too literally, and t-boned my Maxi, totalling her out. Sad end to a very reliable and fun car that I was looking forward to passing on to someone who needed a car.

  • Great Sports Sedan - 2000 Nissan Maxima

Bought 2000SE off of EBAY w/60K miles for $11K and have driven it for about 3 months now. Excellent ride with suprising power from 40-90 MPH. Was thinking about Acura 3.2TL but went with the lower cost of Maxima. Also, the 3.2 have had extreme tranny issues. I put on some new Falkens and they are a very cost efficient complement to the performance and handling of the car. I hope this is geared for at least 150K miles, because I plan to enjoy the ride for a long time to come.

  • Just too old?? - 2000 Nissan Maxima

At 110,000 miles I guess I should not complain, but after reading other reviews I feel compelled to. My oxygen sensors and transmission have lasted longer than others but buyer beware, they will eventually go bad. When that engine light goes on start looking for another car.

  • The Car to Drive - 2000 Nissan Maxima

This Max is my third, and they keep getting better. Ive yet to have a problem with the car, and driving in Dallas, Im thrilled with the acceleration in traffic and the quick cool down of the A/C. The only maintenance has been routine - its the best value for the money.

  • Very Nice Vehicle - 2000 Nissan Maxima

This has been an exceptional vehicle for my wife. She is very hard on her vehicles and this car has taken a beating for 72,000 miles and is still going strong. The only issues we have had with the car is the rear window switch broke and the oil pan screw stripped when it was screwed in incorrectly. All around this is a exceptional vehicle but it was a little pricey.

  • Good Car w/Rip-off service - 2000 Nissan Maxima

The 00 Max SE is a great car til 42K miles. The SES light came on w/stuttering effect. Dealer diag($100)& suggest:replace not 1 but ALL 6 ignition coils. Why not just 1? Nissan Tech(Vince Peterson): we cant pinpoint the specific coil. So we had all 6 coils replaced. Once done, Nissan called to say that coil #1 was it.Folks, dont get ripped-off by Nissan service. They can diagnose the problem to the specific coil. Also the service mgr. mentioned that Nissan Co. recommends changing all 6 ignition coils for this problem for 00 Maximas.I think this only points to poor quality product(ignition coil) that Nissan isnt admitting and doing nothing about.

  • Nice All Around Car - 2000 Nissan Maxima

I have owned this car for about 3 1/2 years now and I still like driving it. It has very nice power and is comfortable to drive. What I liked about when I bought it is that it is practical and sporty at the same time. Nice HP and can seat 5 with a fold down seat for trunk access. I have had a few problems with the exhaust lately but I am at 90,000 miles now and that is to be accepted. No problems with the transmission and engine at all. Very reliable so far.

I find this vehicle rides very hard, not as comfortable as previously owned maximas. Performance and reliablility are unmatched in my opinion. Radio antennae would improve reception.
