This Year's Model Updates:

The Maxima has been (controversially) redesigned, providing more power, more room and more amenities to the luxury/performance sedan buyer. Key among the improvements is 222 horsepower from the standard V6, a boost in rear-seat legroom and an available 200-watt Bose audio system.

Pros:
  • Silky and powerful V6 engine, sports car moves, room for the whole family.
Cons:
  • Odd styling details, high price, rough ride quality with SE suspension.

Great car! It may not be for everyone, however. I enjoy a vehicle that handles and performs when pushed a little harder than usual. This Maxima does exactly that! It may not be for everyone because the elements that make it a "drivers car" (upgraded suspension components) make fo a firm ride. Personally, Ill sacrifice ride quality for performance any day. Not that this car is uncomfortable. Im 6 feet tall and, unlike many Japanese- badged cars, the seats are supportive for short or long trips. On the other hand, if you prefer the ride/handling of a Grand Marquis, this may not be the car for you.

This car is fast, fun, and sexy. Gets great mileage for 222 hp, great in the curves, quiet ride. They didnt build this as well as the maximas of old though. Had to replace clutch at 50K, paint chips and scratches easily, airflow meter ($500) went out at 60K, tranny should be more solid for this engine. A big downside lately is that the engine is designed to run on 91 octane, which bankrupts you at $3.40/gallon! Otherwise trouble-free car, does great in the snow, does 60- 100 faster than 0-60, goes 60-0 in under 4 seconds (Ive checked) great low end to power up hills, doesnt notice a full load. Worth buying but set aside money for drivetrain repairs later--I know thats coming up for me

  • Excellent Long Term Vehicle - 2000 Nissan Maxima

Great vehicle all-around. This car has had no repairs needed in 6.5 years of new car ownership (106k miles so far). Swap out the oil, filters, brakes, fluids, wiper blades, tires now and then and she keeps right on rolling along. Great commuter car.

A little back ground if you want. I bought the car new in 1999 because the Camary and the Accord were both dogs compared to the Maxima, both Toyota and Honda wanted a pretty penny for cars that were soon to be a year old and because I just really like the Maxima after test driving. I have always been a Honda car and a Toyota Truck person. I hated Datsun/Nissan products. I wanted to hated to Maxima, but as soon as I test drove it, I loved it and bought it. Even though Nissan has improved the Maxima over the years, I still think my Maxima has all the things I need(ed) in a car. Sporty, quick, lots of room and comfortable. I dont have any problem going as fast as I want (only problem)

  • Best car to drive - 2000 Nissan Maxima

This is the most fun car Ive ever owned. It still has original everything after 44,000 miles. Its only been to the body shop when someone smashed it in a parking lot. ITS NEVER BEEN TO A MECHANIC. All Ive done is regular oil changes. But I will get the 50,000 service done soon.

I bought this car new in July, 2000, and plan to drive it til it drops. Great car and does everything I need - small enough for city use (easy to park), comfortable and roomy enough for highways and vacations. Coils were replaced around 75k miles; other than that this car has been super dependable. Excellent acceleration and a fun car to drive. The exterior styling stands out in a sea of look-alike sedans. I love the curvaceous back end and the round taillights. Very large trunk for this size car, makes it easy to pack for vacations. I bought the trunk liner, useful to keep things clean. Note JD Powers survey; the 2000 Max is more reliable than newer models. Im keeping mine.

Great car, acceleration from a stop is more than adequate, from a roll is excellent. The engines refinement is amazing, you cant hear or feel the engine at idle at all. Even when flooring it there is no vibration. I now have an intake on it so I can definetly hear a growl! Spacious, comfortable, powerful, refined, reliable, fun to drive, good looking. What else is there to like?

Top 10 engine for so many years in a row is enough to say. With the engine size that the car has, it has more power than cars with bigger engine. The car has great power and accelerates so fast.

Bought this Maxima SE new. So far I had one coil replaced in warranty. Then the trans went (auto). Then problems with the coils out of warranty. Nissan would do nothing for me. They said I had to replace all the coils this time ! Over $600.00 !!!! Nissan would do nothing for me.I will never buy another Nissan again for this headache. But I still love my car.

The size is perfect for me at 52". There are no blind spots. I can take passsengers in the back seat without having to worry about their comfort. The best thing about this car, however, is its power. Its wonderful to pull on to the highway without worries - I used to drive a Cavalier. When my lease was up this month, I couldnt bring myself to turn it in - I bought it.
