Overview & Reviews
All 1999 models get two new exterior colors, improved speakers and a new head unit for the three-in-one stereo combo. The GLE trim level gets alloy wheels added to its standard equipment list, and all alloy wheels now have a bright finish instead of a painted finish. All SE trim levels are now called SE Limited (SE-L) models and come with additional equipment.
- The Altima lost its looks when it was redesigned. The quality of the construction of the materials also seems to be down from its previously high level.

Great Car - 1999 Nissan Altima
By myaltima - August 31 - 2:00 amThis is a peppy little car. We have not had a single complaint about it. We bought this car 2 months after purchasing a Maxima to replace my wifes ailing 4 year old Saturn with relatively low miles. I drive it at times and find no problems with get up and go after driving the Maxima. I truly adore this car and am comfortable with my wife and 21 month old daughter in it in and around town. Safe and reliable.

This is a great car! - 1999 Nissan Altima
By yayaltima - July 9 - 9:23 amI bought this car 8 years ago, used with about 50,000 miles on it. It is now at 168,000 miles and I would drive it across the U.S. tomorrow! To be honest, I have driven the heck out of it. It cranks right up everyday except one time when the battery was dead. I have had to replace the CV joints and the drivers side tie rod. The only regular maintenance I have done on it is oil changes, air filters, fuel filter, and breaks. I love this car and would but another one in a heartbeat!

Great performance and efficiency - 1999 Nissan Altima
By Ryan - March 17 - 4:16 amThe car has taken a heavy beating, yet remains very reliable. Well-maintained, 31 mpg on the highway is possible, and given its performance (dont read this like its a sports car), this is excellent. For my money, I cant find any significant drawback to the driving experience.

Would buy one again - 1999 Nissan Altima
By Lomagirl - December 21 - 1:13 pmId take this car refurbished over a new one. 5-speed manual shifts okay (except balky in 1st), plenty of spunk. Okay w/ routine maintenance but last 5 years had to replace alternator (w/ core charge refund it wasnt much), belt tensioner, and radiator (less than $100, home installation). Have had suspension work done. Factory tires were weak link. Trunk space is good and very comfortable positioning for short driver (Im 52"). Now at over 150,000 miles starting to show its age but I still love this car.

Excellent car - great quality - 1999 Nissan Altima
By dsinnreich - December 8 - 5:26 pmI bought my 1999 Nissan Altima SE brand new in 1998. It is now over 6 years later and I have never had any problems with this car. It is incredibly well engineered and very well built. It zips around quite nimbly around the city and drives very solid on the highway. In the 6 years I have owned it Ive replaced the brake pads and tires once each. Oh and a turn signal burned out at one point. When I got married we had to choose 1 car since we live in the city and only own 1 parking space - we sold her Audi A4 and kept the Altima since we knew we would have much fewer problems with Altima. Great job Nissan. This car is so good were now buying another Nissan.

Thanks Dad - 1999 Nissan Altima
By Lawdogg30 - November 14 - 10:00 amMy father gave me his 1999 Nissan Altima GXE a few days ago. It has 57650 miles on it and he has not had one problem with it. My mother owned a 1998 and I drove that all the time and i loved it. This car runs and drive GREAT! The 4 cylinder motor feels like a V6 with awesome power when you need it. The gas mileage is super as well. Thanks Dad I know I will have this car another 150,000 miles. Thanks Nissan
