This Year's Model Updates:

All 1999 models get two new exterior colors, improved speakers and a new head unit for the three-in-one stereo combo. The GLE trim level gets alloy wheels added to its standard equipment list, and all alloy wheels now have a bright finish instead of a painted finish. All SE trim levels are now called SE Limited (SE-L) models and come with additional equipment.

Pros:
Cons:
  • The Altima lost its looks when it was redesigned. The quality of the construction of the materials also seems to be down from its previously high level.

  • Great Car!!! - 1999 Nissan Altima
    By -

I purchased my Altima in 06 with 130,000 miles on it. It now has 181,000 miles. In May of 2008 my timing chain popped & bent my valves, it wouldve cost more for me to simply replace the belt & valves so I ended up getting a new motor. The timing chain breaking appears to be a common problem after 150,000 miles. If you hear any type of rattling from your motor get it checked!! Besides that, I have not had any problems with my vehicle except normal maintenance (oil changes, brakes, tires). I look forward to having this car for another 50,000 miles!!

  • The car that would not die - 1999 Nissan Altima

Ive put over 200,000 miles on my Altima and its still runs great. My wife owns a 1998 Altima with 90,000 miles on it and it also solid. Ive had to replace the drivers side visor in both several times because it is connected by cheap plastic. This is the great choice for anyone wanting to get out from under a gas guzzler and still get a dependable car.

  • 170,000 miles list replacement list - 1999 Nissan Altima

This is an incredibly reliable car but I have had to replace several things so far. 1. Both front CV joints the seals were all cracked and they were clicking very loudly when I turned. 2. Replaced the alternator 3 times so far; they were aftermarket refurbished. Dealership will not give core refund if it is not a factory alternator 3. I have a slow oil leak and some oil burning. 4. Power steering leaks in numerous places which the dealership said will eventually involve replacing the pump and all valves. 5. Steering wheel rubber has completely crumbled down to the steel core so I have had to replace the cover. and Seatbelt on drivers side doesnt pull in so it gets slammed in door

  • Great Buy! - 1999 Nissan Altima

Bought this car new and although it now only has 35000 miles, this car has operated flawlessly. This car drives, sounds, and rides just like the day I bought it. With the platinum spark plugs, and a timing chain (not a timing belt!) this car requires no maintenance other then oil and filter change. I believe that I could get 200,000 miles out of this car with very few repairs.

  • One of the best cars ever made! - 1999 Nissan Altima

I have to say this is one of the best cars ever made, because i have had no problems what so ever. I fell in love the moment i lay my eyes on this car. This car has everything you could ask for and the engine is great.

  • A good car - 1999 Nissan Altima

I like my car a lot. Its fast enough, though I wont be winning many races. A very nice looking car on the outside, and average looking on the inside. I drove a 2002 Camry mostly though high school, and the Altima cant campete with its roomy interior with leather. Of course the Camry has been around much longer, and is more equal to the Maxima. So if you need something bigger and better than a Sentra and you cant/wont get a Maxima, then the Altima is a very good choice.

  • Reliable and Quick - 1999 Nissan Altima

When you look at the Altima you never guess the amount of PEP thats inside of this car (my only regrets were that I didnt get a manual), I mean the acceleration is superb and the big 2.4L engine is great. So far its really reliable and nice. ITs a very fun car and I love burning little civics and celicas with it.

I bought mine with 50,000 miles on it. It is now turning 200,000 miles on it. I had to put in a rebuilt trans at 178,000 miles and new tie rods at 180,000. As far as things need to be done it seems that it does not start till after 112,000 miles. At least every 10,000 miles added to the car is when things need to be done, I mean things that should get done i.e. shocks, starter, front-end. My mechanic said it will last another 100,000 as long as I do my oil changes and small routine maintenance. Funny thing is when I first bought the car I was getting 27 to the highway now I am getting 31 hwy and 26 to the city. Go figure.

  • Better than honda and toyota - 1999 Nissan Altima
    By -

I bought my altima with 88000 miles on it after owning a Toyota and 2 hondas, have to say both are way overrated,my Altima has been the most dependable car Ive ever had, and let me say "some rockin a/c", blows 38 degrees in Florida-ice cold, and the car is so easy to maintain for the do it yourselfer, have not had a single problem yet, now 140,000 miles and going strong

  • Excellent car - even at 11 years old! - 1999 Nissan Altima
    By -

I have a 1999 GXE 5 speed manual. Its currently at 97,500 miles. Its been extremely reliable. Im meticulous about maintenance and appearance. Outside of one CV joint and speakers, no other repairs. Just regular maintenance expenses like oil/ manual tranny fluid/coolant/brake pad changes, etc. I replaced the struts and springs at 92,000 which helped to restore the cars ride quality to "like new". Fuel economy is 23 mpg around town and 28 mpg highway with a/c on. With cruise control at 60-65 mph on long highway trips without A/C Ive gotten as high as 32-33 mpg. I can put at least another 100K miles on this car and plan on giving it to my son in 2 years. Great car!
