Overview & Reviews
The ML430 is replaced by the ML500, which has a 5.0-liter V8 packing 288 horsepower. Over 1,100 parts of the truck have been modified, but the ML's exterior remains largely the same. New bumpers, clear-lens headlights and revised side mirrors are the most noticeable exterior changes. Inside, the center console sports a new look, and wood grain trim becomes standard on all models. A new automatic climate control system is now standard, and rear-seat passengers get dual cupholders and separate ventilation controls.
- Safe, comfortable, car-like ride and handling, surefooted in bad weather.
- Reputation for poor build quality, looks like a minivan from some angles, confounding COMAND navigation system.

Ten Quarts of Oil Used in 3.000 miles - 2002 Mercedes-Benz M-Class
By Billy C - January 14 - 10:00 amI bought my wife a M-Class as she wanted a SUV. Thought Benz was suppose to be the best. She has been in the shop more in the past year with this vehicle than any other ever owned. The topper is the ten quarts of oil consumed in 3,000 miles. I want a new engine but dealership feels just rebuilding is ok. Better off buying a Mazada Tribute for half the cost!!!

Superb, Enjoy every minute driven - 2002 Mercedes-Benz M-Class
By M. Hashem - December 9 - 2:00 amMy 3rd ML after a 98, 2000. This is it! All bugs fixed, hardly goes to the dealer for any problems. Best part is the free Service for the warranty period. If people buying a cheaper fors or GM would add the service cost they would find it cheaper to own an ML and safer too. Advice; Dont miss the convenience option, I love the lights under the rearview mirror, and the folding outside mirrors

ML500 - 2002 Mercedes-Benz M-Class
By dano - November 29 - 10:00 amTerrific SUV that has shown zero quality issues other than the brakes squealing in cold weather.

My second m class - 2002 Mercedes-Benz M-Class
By mike clouser - November 27 - 10:00 amI bought 1998 m class and it was back a lot at the dealer for repair and had poor air conditioning for Ok. The 2002 came out and after driving the 98 I could easily see the improvement. The 2002 is phenomenal. It does everything well; has many features the 98 did not have, handles better and has never been back for any warranty work despite 16ooo miles the first year.

ML 2002 review - 2002 Mercedes-Benz M-Class
By cdw - November 6 - 8:10 pmGreat SUV. Goes absolutely anywhere. Never let me down. Only problem is quality of finish and quality of details. Some exterior trim finish is poor quality. Lovely, beefy SUV. Overall have loved this vehicle.

disgrace to MB Name - 2002 Mercedes-Benz M-Class
By krueger - October 20 - 10:00 amI have been owning ML320 for about a year and have been having nothing but problems. Every two month it is at the dealership for repair: oil leaks, sunroof sometimes does not close, replaced water pump twice, door sills tear up and start leaking even arount sunroof. I thought that I was not lucky, but my neighboor got one and she is only using it on weekends and she still bring her for repair once in four months: same water pump problems, rear axle loose, etc. My friend got one too and he has been complaining about his also. Overall it is peace of s... The only good thing is it off road capabilities. In winter on the snowy roads it is great.
