This Year's Model Updates:

The ML430 is replaced by the ML500, which has a 5.0-liter V8 packing 288 horsepower. Over 1,100 parts of the truck have been modified, but the ML's exterior remains largely the same. New bumpers, clear-lens headlights and revised side mirrors are the most noticeable exterior changes. Inside, the center console sports a new look, and wood grain trim becomes standard on all models. A new automatic climate control system is now standard, and rear-seat passengers get dual cupholders and separate ventilation controls.

Pros:
  • Safe, comfortable, car-like ride and handling, surefooted in bad weather.
Cons:
  • Reputation for poor build quality, looks like a minivan from some angles, confounding COMAND navigation system.

I really enjoy owning this truck. After all of the reaserch I have done on it, I finally found the one that suited my needs.

  • Big Hassle - 2002 Mercedes-Benz M-Class
    By -

When our ML 320 works, it drives great. The problem is we have had about eighteen separate malfunctions in a little over two years. The power seats continually come unplugged and dont work; the CD changer is not reliable; the window washer container cracked; the rear view mirror fell off while driving. I would never purchase a car like this. It is terrible.

  • ML55 - 2002 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

Sports car performance with SUV cargo capacity. The ML55 is excellant in all catagories. Gas mileage is better than reported (I have been averaging around 15)

  • ML320 cure for Jeep - 2002 Mercedes-Benz M-Class
    By -

Former top of the line Jeep Cherokee owner. The ML320 has the cure for disatisfied Jeep owners. No SUV yawl. Solid, luxury ride. Excellent brakes which do not fade on windy coastal roads like Jeep. Interior is quiet.. no wind noise.

  • 2002 M-Class is Much Improved - 2002 Mercedes-Benz M-Class
    By -

We loved our 98 ML 320 but were less than thrilled with multiple simple problems that plagued the first year of production: rattling rear seats, window switches that failed, rusting lug bolts, noisy suspension to name a few. We are loyal MB owners and have been for 19 years, and can honestly state that the 2002 M-Class improvements are first class--the quality has finally caught up with the design mid-way through this models life cycle.

Had a 1998 ML 320, liked it well enough to get the 2002 model and am extremely impressed wit the improvements. Ride, sound system, options are superb

  • 2001 ml 320 - 2002 Mercedes-Benz M-Class
    By -

9000 miles on a new 2001 ml320 has been uneventful. no service of any kind has been required.

  • A Fun Drive - 2002 Mercedes-Benz M-Class
    By -

Would like to see more convenient "handles" to help you get into the car (like the Navigator has).

  • An average truck. - 2002 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

The M-Class is a good SUV, it does everything well, but will never be able to win a comparison against other luxo SUVs
